  2. Opus, I am a weak man. I was away from the Forum for a few months (in Klipsch rehab) and thought I was cured. But as soon as I returned you found me and in the last four days you led me back into darkness, resulting in my buying ANOTHER (third) set of LaScalas and a set of KLF-30's. I tried calling upon my higher power, but since he is PWK, that didn't help. I tried calling my sponsor, but he had just bought his second set of k'horns that morning. I even tried deleting my forum user name, but that is not possible. All that remains is the inevitable paperwork from my wife's lawyer. PLEASE, OPUS, PLEASE...

  3. I bought my wife a vacuum cleaner one year for Christmas 20+ years ago. I'm STILL hearing about it.

  4. I went nuts this weekend. I got a pair of cane LaScalas. They look very pretty, but will see if they are as nice as the owner claims when I pick them up this weekend. Also got a pair of KLF-30's the owner describes as "excellent condition" for $275. Opus is killing me.

  5. You can probably collect partial disability from the government. At least that way you'd get something to eat.

  6. Morning guys. Finished yard clean-up on Sunday, then got into some multi-tasking watching the Broncos game and doing a long hickory smoke on some ribs. Someone has to do it. That's what happens when she really wanted a set of non-stick pots and pans from Walmart. We need to be more sensitive to these things!!

  8. Earl, your doing fine, ill let you know if your dealing(s) become excessive, it took wife and i the better part of the last two years of Cash/Road trips to end up in Audio heaven. July of this year was our last road trip for speakers, she is happy with her Khorns and i ended up with my "Stacks". All toll as of now aprox $6K in outlay, Four states, 8K miles in two years, and i still end up with a set of spare La Scallas in the pantry. End result is as most know, i need to move to the outback (Desert). .

  9. billybob the place wouldn't be the same without you Glad you check in as often as you do! Mark I'm with you on cleaning my gear then again there is no one else here to do it.....except the critter. Back from lunch.....except they were still serving breakfast so I had breakfast. Can't stop thinking about the 22 year old waitress that caught my eye. A senior at UNC-W, from Rockingham, NC. Long brunette hair woven in a braid, olive skin, and the whitest teeth and pretty smile . She works Thursday through Sunday....which coincidently will become my lunch days there. Yes guys I know I could have grand children that age.......sigh!

  10. Guess it s different for women. If I received a bench saw, or a hydraulic car jack, I would be thrilled. The really nice mixer I got for my wife was not meet with the same gratitude.

  11. That's what happens when she really wanted a set of non-stick pots and pans from Walmart. We need to be more sensitive to these things!! I was so naïve back then. I researched the crap out of that purchase and she really needed a new one. Imagine my surprise when the adulation I thought I'd get was actually scorn. I honestly had no idea.

  12. OK. OK. Eth2, I will consider you in "AA" (audio anonymous) and find someone else to pedal my Klipsch crack to... I got kicked out of AA for surfing CL during the meetings and selling speakers out of the back of my Prius after the meeting. Who in NY area wants a taste??? The first one is free...

  14. Good Monday Morning gang Coffee is tasting mighty fine, a little Ebay shipping, maybe mow the half dead lawn. Tarheel appears to have completed his road to recovery back into mainstream retirement/party lifestyle, well done! Looks like a few of you are about to get an early taste of winter, a bit of nippy weather east of the Mississippi is coming your way.

  15. Ddduuuddeerrr mannng. How many times do you have to drop and break things after a head banger show to learn your lesson? The whole body vibrating to the beat, including the hands and fingers, it's hard to hang onto even the steering wheel.... The first act stole the show? Were they that good or did the sound engineer forget to apply the opening act EQ? #ColterSpeak

  16. Morning gang, drop my dam coffee canister losing about 1/2 lb of ground coffee. Now need to look for a new canister to store my coffee in. I was up till 3 am, went to a local heavy metal show. The first act stole the show. Well off to the grocery store.

  17. Choices of Amplifiers for Big Ole Horn loudspeakers It is not just the THD, since Big Ole Horn loudspeakers don’t need a lot of watts, it is also the TYPE of distortion, which is why so many tweaking audiophiles recommend TUBES: Look for heavy, vintage solid-state receivers, like Harmon Kardon twin transformer models 430-930, for less than $150, but which go for as little as $5 in a yard sale (mine). These sound as good as new receivers costing hundreds, even thousands (see Roksan Caspain receiver review on EnjoyTheMusic.com). They are quite a bargain for Big Ole Horn loudspeakers. Even the low cost ($30) Lepai LP-2020A+ stereo, class T, audio chip amplifier can easily drive my 103-dB efficient Big Ole Horn loudspeakers on most music to moderate volumes at ¼ on the dial. Like a cheap burger, it is a lot of food for the price. Hard to beat. Check out better quality chip amplifiers, like Sonic Impact and Trend Audio, which are about $100 Seriously consider low-cost, refurbished tube amplifiers from fellow forum poster Craig, at NOSvalves.com. Many are a few hundred. Refurbishing one will take time, and about double the cost, so it a great amplifier will cost about a grand. The result however, will be as almost as good as most mega-buck integrated amplifiers, solid-state or tube. Consider either vintage integrated or separate tube pre and power amplifiers. The classic solid-state Outlaw receiver is excellent on Big Ole Horn loudspeakers, perhaps the best solid-state receiver value I have heard. I know from experience that new Cayin, Cary, Antique Sound Labs and Bottlehead tube amplifiers are quite good Jonathon Valin in The Absolute Sound (September 09) gave a rave review to the $800 Odyssey Khartago Power Amplifier comparing it very favorably to much more expensive amplifiers. I auditioned both the Nelson Pass X250 and his radical 10-watt SIT-2 amplifiers on my Big Ole Horn and other loudspeakers for EnjoyTheMusic.com. I have yet to hear a movie/music and system configuration with either Big Ole Horn loudspeakers, electrostatic or traditional cone drivers in which either Pass amplifier always showed off the best that the system could deliver. Passes me out.

  18. EXACTLY! But it does not work that way, all you can do is try to learn from the mistakes, don't bother to figure it all out it's a waste of time.

  20. After two and a half years mostly sitting on a shelf, time to let these go. Pictures show three of the four bottom corners are open slightly. This is all along the edge of all three, front to back. The bottoms must have been near moisture in the past causing this expansion. This is how I bought them. They are air tight and give great bass for their cabinet size. Stock components and grilles are all in great shape. I do not want to ship. Local sale please in Madison, WI area. If you want more pictures, different angles, let me know. -Lyle

  21. Do you have a picture of all your stuff inside that one? Not sure I like the silver handle but otherwise it would suffice. I saw a big bank of a couple million bucks worth of EMC2 racks recently... Pictures don't do it justice, totally badass.

  23. Great speaker but hard to ship without damage. I shipped one a few months ago and it arrived banged up. We had to fight with UPS to honor the insurance claim. We packaged it to survive an earthquake, but not the freight companies.

  24. Congratulations and sit back and read the tube vs. solid state debate. The best advice you have been given so far is to take your time and listen to as many different amps/preamps as you can. Spending a ton of money and then figuring out what you really want is not the way to go. Wish I had listened to that advice.

  25. I would use amp of similar wattage into same ohm load (nominally 8-ohms) as other channels to match their output. An amp with twice the wattage will deliver about 3-dB volume and appear twice as loud. You don't want that. An amp of half the power will be 3-dB as loud and therefore less loud and you don't want that either. Or use better two-channel for the two mains and 7-channel amp for the other speakers.

  26. The infamous sub damaging material is just on the opening credits, it's this continuous obnoxious sine wave that steps down like 4 times for no apparent reason. Otherwise it's pretty on-par with most good action movies, I think there's just as much or more LFE's in Transformers. I was much more impressed with the 7.1 rear surround content on "edge of tomorrow", I haven't heard any movie that sounds as nice on rear surround material. Also the fullness of the gatlin guns sounded totally badass on my RF-7ii's that I'm running full range. The sound effects from the gatlin guns that were mounted on the suits was my favorite part by far. What makes me grin is movies where you're NOT expecting bass. For example, the Toy Story Halloween special. There is LFE that runs all over several big name action movies.

  28. $150 is a deal on those. Great little front firing front radiator mains. GL with your sale. I don't think you will actually need it though at that price.

  30. Why would it matter if the mains are Heritige or not ? I agree two subs will help smooth out room modes but i would take one good subwoofer over two or even three average ones any day of the week. If you want the job done any subwoofer will suffice, if you want the best sound buy a better sounding product.

  32. We watched this last night, thought it was pretty good with great LFE. I'm proud to say the Epik Empires took the LFE sweep in the beginning like a champ, never bottomed out. I enjoyed this and Oblivion both.

  34. yea me two....So back to this vacuum thing....we got a new Dyson Animal Compete a few weeks ago. Our old Dyson's handle and canister broke, it's still can be used so we took it to the shop. My wife uses it for the office. The old Dyson is about 9 years old and has done a good job for us. So we went with the Dyson again. Well the vacuum duties are like this......our two daughters take care of the house while me and the wife are at the shop. They do a good job, but when we "really get down" with the cleaning me and the wife jump in. That's where I come in.......me and that Dyson ....."become one".......that Army training comes back in......attention to detail......I will dismantle stuff to clean it........and when it come to my stereo NOBODY touches it. Back to the house garage again, cleaning out more junk....... Take care all. Mark :-)

  36. Up prematurely! Hate to tell her, that is a present. Ribs sound good! Enjoy ! Hard to remember but, thinking I was not really dwelling on the draft in those days. Preoccupied with romance at times, music, and extracurricular activities. Not necessarily in that order! Thanks Tarheel for making a thread where we can all come and relax and let our hair down. Nothing like uncontroversial discussion where we can speak our minds without taking offense. A place where likes can come, regardless, or in spite of what is said by me. Thanks for being gentle with me here. After all, I am a senior citizen. they say.

  37. Men and vacuum machines. Yep I am considering a new one with glass canister and HEPA filter to help with Jakes hair and dander. My doctor said he bought a Shark vac and it really helped. As for the draft.......a local draft board member called me and said that if I would go 1A for six months I would get a 2S (student deferment). She said that I was probably safe with my draft number in the 160s. She was right.... Time for the second cup. Cheers Gents

  38. Costco trip with LF yesterday. Bought Mayorga organic coffee beans. Not bad at all. Got the critter a large bag of Kirkland's low cal food. I mix in cut green beans and he likes it. Much less expensive than Taste Of The Wild dry food. Breakfast with the buds and now house chores. Just wet mopped all heart pine floors with Murphy's oil soap while doing a load of laundry Anyone hear from akdave about his dad? Cheers Gents

  39. Part of our service with Invision Power includes the Spam prevention service. Without that, the forums would be ALL SPAM ALL THE TIME. A few are getting through the cracks. When we flag them as spammers, they get banned, all posts deleted, and reported to the spam service, which uses the data to identify trends and help detect more spammers. I've also been banning IPs and in some cases entire blocks of IP addresses. We'll get 'em. We'll always get some that slip through occasionally. This is why we have mods :-) We aren't going to hold new user signups for manual approval. We just don't have the time or manpower. Our money is better spent making great speakers and headphones. ;-)

  42. Third cup-o-joe w/Duggans down and going for the forth. 70 Degree days i like, getting many projects completed. Cables/wires i hate, cleaning up the desk area after the Tv install...FINELY after four years of hanging wires everywhere. In the Pic, to the right is the CCTV coverage of the homestead, the monitor below it is indeed Radar, (weather), something to play with during those rainy days i hope we get this winter.
