  6. Happy Friday gang. Our weather has been spectacular all week, but fear not, they're talking about some snow early next week and March is traditionally our big snow month. We need it to fill the reservoirs and avoid restrictions from the 'water police' (polite term) in the summer. Chuck, sorry about your tube issues. My tube knowledge is zip ... wish I could help. Gotta get the Valentine's flowers and cards today. Planning on spending most of tomorrow with my lady. Try to check back in a while. Cheers to all. Enjoy the day.

  7. I drink more than that now, but I could see where that would be a lot with the energy of a 20 year old, it does not have that effect on me at 57, I drink coffee until I go to bed. Cannot seem to get over 3 nowadays. I was always likely to not sleep with over 2 cups a day, especially with one in the afternoon,evening. Now I can sleep better on coffee. I see now that I was a coffee drinker when younger, now I just plod along... Semiretired here still so, guess I will be doing my Sat/Sun job but...I don't want to think about it.

  9. Retirees it's Friday! Cold here as is much of the east coast. Windy and 30 degrees. Breaking in the dac yesterday I played it loud and long until I hear a small pop and later a louder pop. Noticed one power tube in the mono amps burning much brighter than the other three. Replaced that tube and cut off the other amp. Played fine and I noticed the top of the removed tube was smoked up inside. The others were clear so having the giant size brain I do I surmised that this was the offending tube. So now I have three quads of power tubes with one or two bad tubes in each quad. I need one JJ KT-77, one Tesla EL34, and two EH6550 if anyone has spares they want to sell. So I hooked the dac up to the Pioneer SX-950 and the lap top for now. Plans for the weekend guys? Cheers :emotion-44:Gents

Oh no two cups a day for me.....anymore and I would be climbing the walls.........it gets me all "jacked-up". Now my wife can drink coffee at night and have no problem sleeping.MKP :-)

  12. Well, first stand-alone DAC that is... Last weekend I found an Emotiva XDA-2 for sale over on the Emo Forums for a lovely $175. With some saved money left over after the Fusion 8100 selection, and money still to come from the sale of the Yamaha RX-V2500 - I decided to buy it. Having never owned a DAC before, nor an Emo. Today it arrived. I ran around the house until 2 when I had to leave for work. It arrived at 330 - luckily someone was there to bring it in from the cold. It was hard standing around at work waiting for 830 to come around, but I did it somehow. Raced home to be greeted with a box on the kitchen table (no thebes...I wasn't happy to eat it). At any rate, I got it all unpacked and set up. Gawking at the remote that I swear I could beat someone with and do some serious damage. Purdy blue lights to clash and eventually phase out the orange of the Yamaha. After having a near-heart attack with my computer not recognizing the device at first, and having to jump through some hoops to get the drivers installed, I'm now sitting here listening to some of the greatest Doobie Brothers hits of all time (no Michael McDonald please...). Lovin' what this thing's brought forward so far, and can't wait to see its interaction with the Fusion when it arrives. This was also the first time I used the power triggers...why I haven't used them before, I couldn't begin to tell you. P.S....obligatory pics.

  16. I just read the thread about people looking for Klipsch badges and see all of what looks like OEM badges selling for a hundred bucks a pair on eBay. Got me thinking and I’m wondering if there was some serious salami slicing going on in the parts department a long time ago with all of these Klipsch copper badges always popping up on eBay for a hundred bucks a pair. Not all look like reproductions so while I had a few minutes before my next work assignment, I reworked an old Wayne Kemp song recorded by Johnny Cash. “An Ode to the Klipsch Copper Badge” Well, I left Kentucky back in '49 An' went to Klipsch workin' on a 'sembly line The first year they had me puttin' a badge on a speaker grill. Every day I'd watch them beauties roll by And sometimes I'd hang my head and cry 'Cause I always wanted me horns made of Rosewood Brazil. One day I devised myself a plan That should be the envy of most any man I'd sneak speakers out of there in a lunchbox in my hand. Now gettin' caught meant gettin' fired But I figured I'd have it all by the time I retired I'd have me a 1,000 Klipsch worth at least a hundred grand. I'd get em’ one piece at a time And they wouldn't cost me a dime You'll know it's me when the volume DON'T go down. I'm gonna blast my music in style I'm gonna drive everybody wild 'Cause I'll have all the Klipsch there is in town. So the very next day when I punched in With my big lunchbox and with help from my friends I left that day with a lunchbox full of tweets. Now, I never considered myself a thief Klipsch wouldn't miss just one little piece Especially if I strung it out over a hundred weeks. The first day I got me some grill cloth And the next day I got me some woofs, for behind that swath Then I got me a speaker box, and all the veneer. The little things I could get in my big lunchbox Like wires, bolts, an’ horns, and lots of caulks But the big stuff we snuck out in my buddy's Wagoneer. Now, up to now my plan went all right 'Til we tried to put them all together one night And that's when we noticed that something was definitely wrong. The woofers were from ‘53 And the crossovers turned out to be ‘73 And when we tried to put in the bolts all the holes were gone. So we drilled em’ out so that it’d all fit And with a little help, from a RADIO SHACK A-DAPTOR KIT We had those drivers blasting out a song. Now the tweets were another sight We had two on the left and one on the right But when we flipped the switch all three of 'em come on. The horns looked kinda funny too But we put it together and when we got thru Well, that's when we noticed that we only had ONE Klipsch name plate. About that time my wife walked out And I could see in her eyes that she had her doubts But she turned on another song, and said "Honey, take me for a date." So we turned the music up as loud as it would go Then brought out the BEER and Sloppy Joe We could hear everybody partyin' for blocks around. But up there at the police station, they didn't laugh 'Cause they could all hear the music, the whole staff And when the shift was done they just asked, if they could PARTY DOWN. I got my Klipsch one piece at a time And they didn't cost me a dime You'll know it's me when the volume DON'T go down I'm gonna blast my music in style I'm gonna drive everybody wild 'Cause I'll have all the Klipsch there is in town.   17. I am old enough to remember a different time. While the Andy Griffith Show, Leave it to Beaver, Father Knows Best, etc., portrayed idealized views of American life, the important point is that they portrayed a view of America that was characterized by a high moral standard, traditional family values, and something for which to aspire, even if romanticized. What do we have today? Breaking Bad, Cops, and too any shows I was embarrassed to watch with my teenager. Movie producers covet an "R" rating as they know without it attendance will suffer. Shooting unarmed civilians, school shootings, children calling Family Services when they are disciplined, government blaming teachers for children who have no parental supervision or guidance to do homework, read, or engage in anything that does not involve mass carnage on a computer screen, are all part of the same macro issue. There is no moral compass that we can agree upon. Most anything is ok. We have come a long way in terms of basic issues of equality, but we have lost SO much in terms of basic standards of decency, responsibility and common morality. I am not a conservative, nor even a Republican, but I do miss the world of my childhood.

  18. So give him the local police department number. Or you can give him the suicide hotline number. Either would probably rub him the wrong way. Depending on how he handled being routed to unsuspected number he might get an unwanted visit.

  26. We have a pair of La Scala speakers that have been my father's since 1976. He passed away last year and we do not have any idea of their re-sale value. The speakers look as if they just came off the factory floor. Dad always loved these speakers, but unfortunately, no one in the family has the room. They need to go to a special loving home. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks - Terri

  27. The foam surround on my old ProMedia subwoofer deteriorated, so I decided to go ahead and purchase a whole new ProMedia 2.1 unit at Best Buy. Hooked it up and to my dismay the sound quality sucked. The sub sounded muddy, and the satellites where very tinny sounding. Keep in mind I did not change any equalizer settings on my PC. My old unit sounded fantastic with the same settings. So I decided to mess with the equalizer setting to see if I could improve the sound, but it really didn't help much. So I took my old unit apart to see how easy it was to replace the subwoofer, turned out to be very easy actually. Bought an aftermarket replacement on EBAY, and I couldn't be more happier with the sound. Returned the new unit, and never looked back. What did Klipsch change with the new units? AMP design, material used in the satellites, and wtf is up with no power switch? Come on Klipsch your better than this.

Tough to get a solid fix on this guy, because he changes names all the time, but a couple of items have remained pretty fixed...He will send reply mail from a Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 5 (has that in his mail signature...real smart), and the second thing is he always demands, and I mean demands, that you provide a phone number. I have run up against him a couple of times, and he is a complete fruitcake. Beware.

  29. I'd like some opinions on how this turned out. I'm kind of on the fence leaning towards I like it. The name plate follicles are not bent or anything but are not great cosmetically. I decided to make grills that cover the entire motor board. Also, I went with a tan/gray grill cloth.

  32. Looking for some feed back as to whether or not this would be a good idea. I have 3 quads of power tubes with either one or two bad tubes per quad. Currently I need one JJ KT-77, one Tesla el34, and two EH6550 tubes. There may be someone out there with spares or incomplete quads who would be willing to sell or swap single or pairs of tubes. If I could find what I need above for the price of four used tubes I would have three complete quads. There would be the matching issue and tube testing which I don't do. Plus the possibility of damage during transport and how to handle bad tube purchases. Worth while? What do you think?

  36. Hi Sancho, Thanks for the feedback. We are just outside of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Wondering why being unfinished makes them desirable? Terri Because you can stain it whatever you want to match your other speakers or your furniture or whatever. The condition is what impresses me most.

  39. OK cool....cuz I do this. From your list I would do the Bells at the far left and right flank....I would put the Chorus on the inside of the Bells....I would toe in the Bells and have the Chorus flat just off the back wall. I do this with my LaScala's and ChorusI's/II's...... I'll drive the LaScala's with one Adcom555II and my Chorus with one of my Bigger Carvers.....hmmmm TFM55x. I have not done six speakers......but I would throw the Heresy on the inside of the Chorus. Now I know you said no subs........but I gotta have my subs..... mybe one.....or two.......or three.......yea three....lol lol MKP :-)
