  1. Hey guys, I got a note from Opus. I'm fine. As I told him, Ya I was frustrated. I've been watching for a local deal on Fortes for a very long time and I work just 30 minutes from Ft. Wayne so I got a bit excited. I saw the listing just 2 hours after it went up but had no way to reach the guy and then when I do, it's too late. I was especially frustrated knowing Opus sold a couple of pairs of Fortes a while back and that he still has a couple of pairs and a basement full of Heritage speakers that I have never even heard let alone owned. But then I slept on it and thought about that kidney I lost to cancer last year and how in the grand scheme of things, this is nothing that should bother me. Sooooo, I'm listening to Eva Cassidy on my Quartets at the moment and all is well. Brandon, I appreciate the PM that I got from you and Mark. I hope the deal is legit and all goes well. Mark

  8. Sure my man anytime.... Just a quick note.... when that engine is out of the car alot of work can be done to it before it goes in. When I do a engine replacement and I getting a used engine, I will put on new timing belt water pump. I might do a oil pan gasket, adjust valves all before that used engine goes into that customers car. Cuz again it's much easier to do that work while that engine is on the ground. and if the car is a stick it gets a new clutch. Again good luck.. MKP :-)

  9. Coffee today was a little different, instead of sharing it via world wide web with the coffee klack. I had the honor of enjoying with one of our own members in person. Mark and his lovely wife had made a little pit stop here in Omaha. We met up at one of my favorite breakfast joints in the downtown district called The Diner. For about an hour and half I enjoyed visiting with Mark and his wife about our audio journeys. I must say, though I don't have many audio buds here locally. I have had the opportunity to meet up with a few here and there. I wish Mark and his wife a safe journey. As it sounds like quite a jog for 2 pair of mcm grands, at around 2k miles one way.

  10. Already signed up fro that, but I'm still checking my options for SS. We had some tickets for a local movie theater, and headed to an Italian resto in the same block, but instead of going in, we hit the Chinese resto next door. Surprise! About 15 friends were waiting for me. We had a great time. Bruce

  14. That's really not uncommon. Domestic guys hate imports. Import guys hate domestics. Asian techs don't like European, European guys don't like Asian. Diesel techs hate gas motors just as bad as gas techs hate diesels. The best Kawasaki motorcycle tech I've ever seen refused to change the oil on his own truck. He hated cars and trucks. It's all what you're used to. There are a couple of Jap cars that I also will not work on 1st Mitsubishi 3000 GT's 2nd all the Nissan Z cars But bring me a Acura NSX....I'll be all over it.... 16. Hard to believe its already been 11 years since THE INCREDIBLES hit the big screen. By far my favorite Pixar film & the AQ/PQ still delivers a great HT punch. Original Writer/Director Brad Bird has finally starting working on the long awaited sequel.

  18. I like options. My normal setup is my Klipschorns with my DBX amp running in 2 channel at 100 watts per. It's plenty, and I could run 4 sets of speakers off of that amp in that configuration should I ever get the inclination. OR, I can bridge the amp and run 400 watts into 2 channels ala Chorus II's, should I ever have an inclination to buy them. The amp, IMO, sounds clear and precise with lots of power for the peaks. It tends to favor the higher frequencies a bit, but that is solved with an EQ and a subwoofer. For whatever reason it is a very overlooked amp. Just my two cents: buy big and for the future, because you don't know what the future holds and limiting your options now will just cost you more later.

  21. So, so much for car for now. Back to ac in home recent problem. First tech said wrong fan motor on outside unit not efficient enough so need OEM fan motor. Need to take out A-coil whch is dirty and do a chemical bath with it. May have leak of refrigerant but... Second tech(opinion) Replaced capacitor with another cheap made one from ___. Inside electrical panel started arcing during his troubleshooting resulting in his pulling the 220 ac breaker from panel bus and leaving inside box. Call to first electrical said could be out next Tuesday. Called another and they were able to come out next day and replaced breaker to unit. Suggested we consider a more decent panel in near future. We will be getting estimate for new panel with the invoice when mailed. Second ac tech said new capacitor may fix but if not, having electrical on, we could continue troubleshoot. Inside unit iced up. He came back and said, low on refrigerant and proceeded to put in 2 1/2 lbs. of R-22. Likes the first techs opinion on the fan motor not efficient enough so, for now cooling nicely enough. Second tech sold Nancy a maintenance contract. So to recap from recent posts, car, ac, electrical. So guessing we have gotten our 3, as the saying goes. Nancy is on a jury today and using the car rental. Me, I am trying after this to forget cars, etc. Have a nice cold one chilling in the fridge for later...

  23. Make sure the woofer surround does not bottom out on your motorboard, those Dayton woofers use a soft gasket that compresses when the screws are tightened. Chalk up the motorboard, install and tighten down your driver(s) and play a 20 Hz test track with some decent voltage but not too much as to bottom out the driver then remove to see if any chalk has rubbed onto the surround. If you have interference a spacer will be needed.

  24. Lol, reminded them I was aware of at least the timing belt situation so, bent their ear enough for now. Came onto them from the original owner of a local ac repair, and related back in 78. Good service, quick, etc. Found his son and his sons still doing the ac and about all other related still in the family business. Can only hope they can get us down the road apiece. Costly yet, price effective by owning a vehicle outright that she likes. Got a gator socket on a 1/2inch universal ratchet so hoping I got all of the tools I need. Probably start looking now for a Honda meanwhile for myself. lol If they are as halfway diligent as you, we are probably in good shape.

  28. Exciting times! The drywall is hung, the guys are in the basement taping and bedding as we speak, I'll post more pics when that's all done. Yesterday, the rest of my sound system arrived direct from Hope, AR, 4 KPT-8060 surrounds, and another KPT-884 subwoofer! The 4 reference series CDT-3800-II in ceiling speakers arrived last week, I'm good to go for 7.2.4 Dolby Atmos! I can't wait to hang these beauties, I opened the instruction manual for the 8060's, and the 1st set of directions are for wiring them in parallel for a commercial cinema lol!

  29. I did, from Fed Ex. About fours ago I shipped a pair of RB-5's to Jeff Tubbs in Arkansas and the woofers ended up crumpled. Jeff sent detailed photos of the speakers and the superb packing job and Fed Ex still managed to damage them. I filed a claim within two hours of Jeff receiving the package and talked to a Fed Ex rep on the phone. About a week and a half later, I got a call from the rep informing me that the claim was approved and I was refunded the original cost of shipping of the speakers to Jeff and new woofers from Klipsch including shipping to Jeff. All totaled refund was about $235.00 which covered all expenses with about $50.00 to spare. Bill

  30. if the monos are drawing that much current you need to get rid of them FAST...................................that said your first step in trouble shooting this is get a decent weight extension cord IE 12-2 and run your subs off that with you amps off the suspected circuit, then as scrappy stated check all your wiring and settings if you were overloading a circuit to the extent it caused a loss of power you describe it should trip the breaker. another usefful troubleshooting tool, take a multimeter set for A/C turn on your mains and check the current at the outlet where the subs are normally connected, it should read north of 110.......................(mine are at 117.3) report progress

  32. I have never heard a midrange like this, simply awesome. I do not regret letting go of the Chorus 2's to get these they are so smooth sounding and even without the subs they have good tight bass (The twin tapped horn subs just make it that much better tho). I had a friend over for a listen just to see if they sounded as good to him as they do to me. We listened to all kinds of music for about 3 hrs and he was just in aw over how they sounded. I now understand the desire to own an all horn setup. I absolutely love these speakers and the fact that they were the last prototype before the LaScala 2 came to market is pretty darn cool to boot.

  36. This is an excellent comment. However, Klipsch is one of the few brands where their speakers can appreciate/hold their value over time. So for pure satisfaction - icing on the cake, sort-of-speak, it is nice to see them being offered for that amount and know that the pair you own are gaining in value, in addition to the pleasure of listening to them over the decades.

  38. LOL...ya, that was just a number that I threw out there. I was in a hurry and on my lunch break but I'd do anyone right who helped me out. I'll be home in a little over an hour. Maybe I will get lucky. It's worth a shot. I found my first Fortes at a summer garage sale for $200 and later sold them which I have regretted ever since. I'll send him an email as soon as I get home. Mark

  42. Well we decided. Shop is replacing the blown(?) Volvo 225k engine with a 113k one. I made them aware to check if timing belt has or have been changed during previous ownership of engine. It sure has been fun experience waiting on them to give us a ballpark price on engine replacement, fixing the original ac clutch compressor problem which led us there in the first place, and a price on heater core replacement, instead of bypassing it. Will call them back next Tuesday to find out where we are in the process. Nancy sure likes her Volvo, and it has been a real blast doing what I can to keep it going. Do not go on luck but, sometimes have to cause, no guarantees with older cars like a 99. Decided to drop the issue about the non-interference after they said it would have caused head damage. A pro link I found the 99 did not have interference problems. But for a newer motor then, and not having to continue shopping for another acceptable car for Nancy, we will drive it and then decide about looking at another Honda. At least, we may have a trade in after it is fixed,lol...Thanks again MKP.
