  2. Morning everyone busy weekend but had a great time. Friday night had about 20 people over for BBQ and drinks while watching the Jaguar/Steeler game. good times Saturday we got up and took the babies to the park and let them play until the heat and humidity got unbearable. Saturday afternoon took a few friends and my parents to a local venue to watch my 3rd oldest daughter in the finals of Florida's Next Superstar Voice Competition. She did great and took home 2nd out of a total of 25 contestants. Did just an amazing job! Sunday...yardwork before the storms...was going to relax after that but instead moved around a bunch of equipment. Took my Yamaha YSP-5100 Sound Projector and KSW15 out of the living room and setup a 3.1 system of RF3, RC3 and RSW12 with my Onkyo A/V....then relaxed while watching movies and listening to some tunes with the kiddos.....finished off with some amazing Spanish Rice with Pork Chops, greens, corn on the cob and homemade potato bread. Back to the grind today.....need to just sell the Sound Projector and KSW15 setup....doubt I'll set it back up anywhere

  3. Top of the Monday, guys. Hope the weekend was good. Still listening to the albums we picked up Sat at the vinyl stores. Pretty good stuff. Worked outside yesterday then did some marinated pork steaks over hickory with sauce. Turned out pretty good but will probably smoke 'em next time for more tenderness. A turntable maker, eh?? That is way beyond me but look forward to seeing some pics and how-to's. Gotta run and hit the eyeglasses store. Cheers to all.

  5. Today was a productive day. I mowed the lawn, then watered it; ripped about 50 cd's to a USB drive; aired up my neighbors tires for her; grilled some fajitas and worked on a custom turntable I am building.

  6. Greetings all! Back for my random phantom post to say hello and scurry back to my A.D.D. existence! It's raining! I don't feel guilty about staying inside now! Coffee is just so much better on a rainy day! Listened to the Dukes of September this weekend on Blu Ray - it's solid of you like Boz Scaggs, Donald Fagen and Michael McDonald. Have a great day and week! I am now under 4,500 posts away from the locked thread!

  10. Afternoon gang I just wake up to 104, 30% Hmd, dam it's hot outside, 81 in the cave, tolerable. Ha, gary got me thinking about some of the things i did, growing up in LA, likely my Fav was the Co2 Laser i built and used in the desert dry lake area(s), rented two of the biggist honda generators made, in palm springs on the way out, had fun blowing rocks up at a mile and a half away, burned up BOTH hondas, that weekend in 81 cost me a grand My buds and i were viisted by the military sometimes, never gave us a hard time, just making sure we were harmless ("American") boys having a good time. Yucca valley paper reported a few times the Marines were testing "Space" weapons LMFAO......... My buddy Art and i joined the Moose lodge in Landers, The closest place you could a cold drink, the locals would be talking about what was going on ("On trhe Range"), we never let-on, we just smiled.

  20. Hell this is ONLY a 16 channel Pelco, iv got three in stock, and camears back to the 60s. Electronics has been hobby for the better part of 50+ years, if i want something, i know where to buy it on the cheap, or i just build it. SoCal surplus houses the finist goodies in the world, from space, NASA, air force labs, every aircraft mfg, i had one fun childhood. dry lake next to 29 palms was my testing range, from lasers to rockets i never saw again, nothing was "offlimits". These days, i would be labeled a terrorist. just because i wanted to build and play.

  21. First I should clarify this post is not a how to, as much as a share my experience! My first tube amp was a Jolida fx10 which uses 6bq5 tubes for the output . I used it primarily with 1987 Klipschorns in what I would consider a medium to small room at medium loud to lower listening volumes, and loved the sound. But after reading post after post about the quality of sound of the vintage tube amps like Scott , Fisher, Mac. etc. and in some of the post there was some discussion as to why they sound so nice like better iron in the transformers the circuitry used and better overall parts and workmanship from a era long since past. I was intrigued. So like most of you AFFLICTED with this audio hobby I went in quest of better or higher quality sound. I decided on a Scott intergraded amp ( supposed Mac killer) and liked the look of the brown faced lk 72. After finding and buying a working amp I started to educate myself on the different aspects of its restoration. So with my non existing skill set or understanding of anything electrical outside of paying the monthly bill ,decided it would have to be shipped to someone. While exploring the options of qualified techs I was told by a fellow forum member to talk with Maynard. While discussing what would be involved to have him restore the amp I soon realized that I had been steered by the fellow forum to a highly qualified and stellar human being !! At some point in are conversation I expressed the fact that I wished I knew how to do this myself . In the following email I could actually pick up on the excitement that it was infact possible and Maynard was wiling to help me. So began the adventure!!! The way this was to work would be to send Maynard pics of the bottom of the amp with the cover removed and he would formulate a plan of attack, list of parts to buy and a set of instruction`s. When I would get the work finished from his instructions I would photo the replaced components , confirm the amp still worked and send Maynard the photos for evaluation then the process would repeat. Sometimes I would receive new instructions sometimes I would have to rework something or maybe resolder a connection but I always received encouragement. At one point I lost signal in one channel, after replacing more components than I was supposed to before confirming what I had done was correctly working.( case of having to much fun desoldering and soldering). I emailed Maynard and confessed to my overzealous stent with the ole soldering iron . He replied not to worry about it that he in fact he had been guilty of the same thing and ask if I had a sound generating thingy , I had no idea what it looked like or really was used for but was positive I didn't have one. Maynard replied no worries we will make one, then gave me instructions how to make one out of a old receiver, speaker, cd player and rca cable . We then commenced to locate the issue, which turned out to be a balance control pot that had been working and was acting up. I must admit that I had a blast doing this! The amp is now complete and working perfectly. I can say for me and the few that have listened to it. It truly sounds amazing on my klipschorns. While I gained a lot of experience and knowledge I have a lot to learn or understand! I want to say that do it yourself may not be for everyone but it is possible with the proper guidance . I would like to also mention some safety guidelines.( discharge all electrolytics, only one hand in amp at a time , never work barefoot and don't work on a conductive work surface.) While I have not been to a cookout, drank beer, chased the local women around or a multitude of things friends do, I do consider you Maynard as such! So thank you my friend for your time and understanding. Stacy PS. Maynard I am all itchy and have those bumps and rash again so I bought a Mac 225 andc24 pre sat. ill be in touch Now I can test the Mac killer comment before pics after pics

  23. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I spent most of the day today at the local police departmen's Internal Affairs Division representing a police detective on a pretty minor allegation. Monday if a pretty funky day for a birthday, but it is all good. We are taking Friday off and going to Wardsweb's lake house on Lake LBJ, gong to relax, drink some cocktails, listen to music all weekend, it will be very nice. Very much looking forward to it, Travis

  28. While you wait for the new turntable pictures, here is a page I put up on a Roksan Radius 5 table that I replicated in 1" African bubinga. It is a very dense hardwood. You can even drill and tap it. This is the same wood I used to CNC a pair of JBL 2397 "Smith Horns". http://wardsweb.org/audio/Roksan/

  31. Welcome to the world of Klipsch and this great forum. Are you planning to use these for 2 channel music only or for TV also? If music only, then a good receiver or integrated amp will be sufficient. A receiver is a tuner (radio), pre-amp and amp, all in one. If you don't need a tuner, then an integrated amp will do. My son uses a restored Harman Kardon 430 receiver to drive the Hersey speakers I gave him. Many here love the old H/K 430, 630, 730 & 930 receivers for Klipsch speakers. To purchase a used one and get it electronically refurbished would cost about $300 total, but it would be better than new and include a phono input. I have several Technics SL-1500 direct drive turntables. They hold steady speed and are cosmetically good. I would sell one with a good cartridge mounted for $150 shipped to lower 48. Please send a PM if you're interested. Even if not interested in one of the TTs, send a PM and we can exchange contact info. I'd be happy to elaborate beyond the capabilities of the forum.

  32. This may sound odd, but have you tried augmenting the sound of the headphones with a subwoofer? The best headphones will give you excellent clarity and detail, but you won't feel any physical sensation below the neck. If you have a sub kicking around unused, maybe try hooking it into your system and locate it very close to your listening position. That way, it could be effective even at low volume. It may give you the warmth you're looking for. Due to the way my system is set up, plugging in the headphones cuts out some speakers, but not all. I checked and cut out the operating speakers, but the sub was still on. It added noticeably to the pleasure of listening with headphones, since my body was getting some of what my head was getting from the phones. Just an idea.

  34. IMO, I think 800 to 1000 is where the market is (for my area) given they are in very good condition. I paid 250 for a pair that were about a 6 on a scale from 1 to 10. I think it just depends on how motivated the seller is and what you are willing to pay.. too bad you're not local..........these are minty and the gentleman selling them seems very nice..( no affiliation) http://albuquerque.craigslist.org/ele/5153074045.html

  37. Oh yea..that is a deal.... the SB I getting has alot of attachments, and I'll be pricing it more than a grand. Hell the Atlas I listed sold for $1000 with alot of attachments and the guy that got it from me did not bat an eye at the price. He new it was a fair price. I like to make money but I price things to sell... If I'm trying to sell something I price it to sell at a fair price... I hate the "lowballer's" if you insult me I'll just look at ya and say something like...... I got xx number of people in line to look at this today....you got one more shot....most dig in there pocket and say here's the money... I sold an old Honda Accord a few weeks ago, it was my daughter's old ride. Yea it ran and drove but it needed work. I priced it at $800 on the CL. The young guy that got it came out from Baltimore... I new this would be a city car. So he asked me if I am firm on the the price. I told him all the work it needed and said give $500 and it's yours.. He was really happy. I was a great ride for 5 bones. I thought he would get a year out of it...... Well he called two days later and told me the trans had taken a dump. He wasn't mad he wanted to know if I had another trans around the shop (I didn't). I told him the time we find a used trans and you pay me to put it in he would have too much in the car. I asked him if the car still drove, he said yea but when it gets warm the trans slips. So I told him drive the car to the local scrap yard... I knew he would get $350 for a car you drive into the yard. I told him I will send him a company check for $150. I sent the check out that afternoon. He called later that week and told me he did get $350 at the scrapper and he got my check. He thanked me for making him whole. Even though I sold the old car "as is" it was just the right thing to do. So in the end I got the $350 out of the old beast...the same if I was to drive it to the scrapper. I believe what comes around goes around....I don't want to piss off the karma gods.... lol lol Wishing all a great Sunday... MKP :-)

  41. Afternoon gang Mr Crow's parts look to be just the ticket, anybody see what is going on here yet? Keep in mind the wife TOLD me this one is hers, yeah, well not without a little "Fun" as to the program. Her Crow will calmly reside on a living room side table, she will be expecting Mr Crow to greet and ask "Hey how-a-bout a Movie Babe", pretty simple program fired up by motion sensor. No problem, that is done. However Her Mr Crow will have a Dark Side! yeah babe, now we are talking! Full two way comunicado, meaning i push a button/remote and can carry on a two way conversation And of course Mr Crow will replicate full voice/eye/head movement. 500' range, so i can just sit in Da-Cave and fk with whoever is there. Gery Goose and a sodering iron, great combo......

  42. Welcome the forum. Great score with gift from dad. Great suggestions from Neil. Also, take a look at www.accessories4less.com and check out some of the integrated amps from Yamaha, Marantz, and Onkyo. Some will come in around $300.00. Also from them an Onkyo TX-8050 which is the same stereo receiver as my Integra DTM-40.4 which I have powered both my Heresy I's and Heresy II's with great results. Many features like networking, Pandora, preouts to add amp later, and subwoofer preout if you want to add later. Where are you located? Your local Craigslist can be your friend. Good luck, Bill

  43. Premium components... once again, there is no substitute. just be careful how much you pay for those components. One thing a really good DAC does, is expose a bad recording... so many recordings I have I have to play via HDMI using the pioneer DAC because the Wyred will just clip and be completely un-listenable.

  44. Thanks billybob... He was just such a nice young guy, and both his friends that came out with him were also very nice. and I tell ya this old Honda was still a great old car for the money. He really liked it. It came with great tunes in it, good tires, and till the day I sold it it drove great...... but chitt does happen... like I said I just had to make him whole. MKP :-)
