  1. Back home after the New Mexico trip. 13 hours from Ruidoso to the White Sands Monument, thru El Paso. Not bad for this family. While gone N.E. Texas had a little blow early this morning. Here is a photo of the storm as it passed about 200 yards behind my mother's place. Edit: as it passed over town added

I have alot of practice doing just that, I have no problem walking right past everyone spending money to get to the restaurant.. we did just that, the last time I was with Christy and Eldon and it was a great meal and a good time! 12. Burnt my tongue on the third cup, so I waited for it to cool, now finishing it up. My plan tonight is to enjoy some cocktails (straight whiskey) and pull some cables for my next stage of my project.

  17. There are over 300 different named varieties of Japanese maples, there are many different style leaves from normal maple shaped leaves to leaves cut all the way back to the stem which is called Dissectum. The main obvious differences is upright growers compared to weeping and color which is reds to greens and many colors in between. They grow great in the North which is where many of the bigger growers are, also out in Oregon where one of the better gardens is located, I would like to go see it one day. In the South it's best to plant them where they get a little shade for the more delicate varieties, the sun can be rough on some down here. http://japanesegarden.com/learn-more/the-five-gardens/

  19. always been a fan of the japanese maple. nice looking tree. It's my favorite plant, we had 25+ different ones. Not nearly as many now only 8, the nursery where they came from must have had a problem with dieback and it was spread from tree to tree when trimming if cutters are not cleaned between trees. There is nothing that can be done about it once they get it, one branch will die off over the years until the whole tree is dead. Lost some really nice trees, made me sick.

  22. It's been so warm some of the plants think it's mid April, Azaleas are blooming and some Japanese maples are getting leaves.

  23. I always purchased the safety orange handle Snap On tools exactly for this reason. Still left stuff under the hood at times. Find a few, lose a few. Just how it goes i guess.

  24. Chuck--i don’t think there is a way to get your stuff back without an awkward moment first. I think a simple card with condolences and mention that you were a customer of the husband’s. Apologize for the awkwardness of asking; and tell her when she’s ready to deal with the electronic equipment to give you a call. I eat at this Mom & Pop Chinese place down the street. For the past many months, i don’t see the Pop around anymore--just the wife & son. I’m worried that he died; but, am to embarrassed to ask. Speaking of awkward, (disclaimer: my family is a bit strange) my Aunt and her brother hadn’t spoken in 15 years or so. Her brother is my Godfather. At the funeral home, she tells me that if her brother shows up that she wants me to tell him to leave that he’s not welcome there. I look at my brother and say, “what do I do? Disobey the request of a grieving widow or tell my Godfather to get lost?” Thankfully, he didn’t show up. One day at the cemetery, my Aunt sees her sister-in-law there. She tells me that she wonders if her brother died and nobody told her. Instead of going up to her sister-in-law, she decides to go to the cemetery office, give her brother’s name, and ask if he’s buried there. he wasn’t...he was still alive.

  34. Mine have always been more short lived than I would like. It's not like I can't grow things and keep them alive for decades, but those things are eluding me. I'm trying to switch to some redbuds which aren't as pretty in the foliage department but have a good flowering display.

  41. It's definitely not punny to lose a deck like that. Note: the family might not have the pin to his voicemail to access messages. A written letter/card is a great idea.

  46. I looked into renting an RV a few years ago for a trip out west. After the sticker shock wore off, I bought airline tickets for the family and flew out there instead. The rental and mileage charge was quite a bit more than I figured, it was something crazy like $1.50 per mile plus gas. It was 5k over a 2.5 week period. I'm considering looking at renting a full size custom van and staying in hotels for our next trip. Good luck in your search.

  48. On that radiator. Good tip about the cable tie Jason. I didn't see that soon enough. Anyway I was able to weld the radiator and it all looked pretty good but still had the tiniest little pin hole spraying water afterwards when under pressure. I decided that was enough welding fun and went on back to the parts store for a new radiator. All back together now and all is well.
