  1. In 8 years, iv only opened the Mancave garage door one time, @70+Db. When the Cub's won the series, i believe the tune was ACDC Thunderstruck, not ONE neighbor came out of their house or complained.

  5. Why since you had them already sure, you never know one day you may live somewhere where you could use it, like neighbors to each side or a crazy amount of space you want to cover. I thought about one day putting the yard speakers in the back of the truck pointing to the side where you put fuel. They can get loud with just a car battery T amp and a phone or I-pad powering them, completely portable. Pull up to a gas pump with them pointing to the pump and wait for a punk to pull on the other side with his subs rattling his car and just tell him, that's how it's going to be, OK. And let him have it. Never did it but i would love to see his face.

  9. Well we drove 3 hours to lafayette La and stayed at kevin's house, we got up Fri morning and Kevin drove the rest of the way, about 7 hours to San Antonio. Left Sun morning staying again at Kevin's and we drove home this morning. Doing it that way made it easier, plus we were in a nice 4 door truck which was very comfortable, plenty room for just 4 people. That was as far West as I have been since I went to California in the 60's when I was a kid. The trip was mostly about going to see some nice people, listen to each of his 3 very nice setups, and drop off a set of Cornwall 1's that will be veneered. If I ever go back to that city I want to go eat at the same place. I don't know Mexican food or the names, but the fist pic is beef and bacon, second is sausage, chicken and beef, these two was for 4 people with rice and beans. The place is not fancy but the food is very good, and that pepper was hot.

  10. How do you think they sound, I don't remember hearing what you think since you got them going. That's the same kind of bass bins we use inside but a different horn on top, we love it. I have never heard that combination.

  12. Sounds like a bad case of the tough sheets, if they don't like that volume the surely won't like the stacks outside pointed at them. We were talking about this when we were down there, I could be perfectly happy planning a trip just to hit all the good smokehouses, like a smoked meat tour of Texas. It's nothing fancy but we were there to find good food, and we sure found it, I would go every time we are anywhere close. Glad to hear you liked them that much, looks great, the speakers look good also.

  14. Even this Alaska boy has been to Cooper's! It's the real deal! My Texan buddy said you know it's real when you spend $36 on it and it's served on wax paper. I'm almost ruined on BBQ now bc it just doesn't measure up to that place! Two thumbs up, go check it out if you're within 1,000 miles or so!

  17. I had to go look it up, I couldn't' remember, but this is it. I was little surprised there are over 1000 Mexican restaurants in the San Antonio area, I knew there would be alot but wow ! I did find out the name of that beef and bacon dish, brochetta . https://www.yelp.com/biz/pollos-asados-los-norteños-san-antonio https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g60956-d3976153-Reviews-Pollos_Asados_Los_Nortenos-San_Antonio_Texas.html https://www.facebook.com/pages/Los-Nortenos-Pollos-Asados/132621593506609

  24. Ok back home now, went over to visit some nice people in San Antonio and had a good weekend. We went out to eat at a great little Mexican restaurant, the best I have ever had, I ate way to much. You know it's a good place when there is a waiting line anytime they are open. Meat cooked on giant clumps of mesquite charcoal, business is so good they cook 1000 chickens a day and it's only part of the menu.

  29. Another factor in HT, which is connected with visual aesthetics, is the seating closeness to the screen. For example a 55" screen requires one to be seated at 7-8 feet from the screen to get HDTV quality. Because of this we moved our HT room to our smaller former audio room. http://myhometheater.homestead.com/viewingdistancecalculator.html#anchor_13194

  30. McMs sound just fine, no better fixtures needed for my lifetime. However since i already had the EAW stacks and a couple extra amps, i split the output of the Pre into a second set of amps and have been running both EAW / MCM stacks for a few months, this is my kind of kickazz system. Pissing off the neighbors is a Gimmie/done deal @ 10Watts.

  32. This cabinet actually has an imitation wood grain lacquer finish that looks pretty good but still not as nice as a natural finish. I was going to use lacquer thinner and alcohol to strip the cabinet but decided that would be a little messy and sanding wouldn't take too long since I'm not afraid to go after it with careful application of 80 grit on my orbital sander. I've used the sander enough that I thought I could take off the finish and keep it level by finishing with a flat block. It came out fine... it is actually more flat now. I have enough veneer left from my Heresy veneer work to do two of these cabinets so I guess I can afford to make a mistake but I'd rather not. I'm hoping to match my finish on the Heresy's from my upgrade project. I'm really happy with the way the figuring on this veneer will line up with the cabinet and large vent on top!

  36. Maynard. Thank you for the kind words. Mat is a friend first. He has been kind to me when there was no benefit to himself and has been a mentor. VPI builds great gear. If I can't fit the customers need, maybe he can. If you speak with vendors at shows you can see competition but you can also see mutual respect. High end audio is a tough biz for many reasons... tearing each other down helps no one.

  37. I have done that before, our dirt is hard clay here, it's like cement when dry, watering really helps but it's very slow to soak in. The same reasons ponds do so well here, you can fill a hole with water here for days and dig down another few inches and it's dry as a bone.

  38. I use Monoprice speaker wire 12 awg. with banana plugs (not Monoprice plugs). Be sure to use Oxygen Free Copper (OFC) and NOT Copper Clad Aluminum (CCA). CCA is the cheap stuff. As @derrickdj1 said directly upstream, 16 awg will be just fine. FYI I consider the 12 awg I use overkill, but that's why we're here, isn't it?

  39. I don't remember that commercial, It was the camera I first discovered what all the adjustments would do to a picture. Still today I use manual as my first choice but do use the auto focus for general pic's, and at times A, which I tell people is for Alcohol and I'm not really paying attention.

  42. That Nikon F is a tank. When I was in HS, I saved my money and bought a used Nikon F and an F2 (1978). Both were like new. I also bought a 250 exposure motorized back for the F, but I had to sell that camera and the back to pay my housing bill my freshman year in college. I got $700 for that rig, but it really hurt to sell it. I still have that F2, plus another F2 and a couple of F's that I picked up over the years. Best mechanical SLR cameras ever made IMO.
