  1. Yea I'm only about 5 miles from San Diego county line as the crow flies. And same in another direction to Orange county line.

  2. It's the C Sharp... larger/heavier plater, longer tone arm and external speed controller. I did install the anti-skate and finished up some FINE tuning and the TT is sounding a lot better. Lots of dynamic range and pure liquid bliss. I have to tame some very very slight sibilance, but that might be just personal preferences. Even here in the desert I never suffered terribly from static induced distortion... I just wash each LP before play back with distilled water and I was good to go. I think I need to try another mat material but it's going to be a little tricky because that vinyl platter surface is not removable.

  3. @Schu That is another fantastic looking turntable that I've seen put up here recently. It and your rig are fitting in that tough looking house you have(saw the flurry pic). Disliked the felt mat on my new tt because of my own previous experience. I found a leather one that I think is great, and a lot less than an acrylic platter. If I remember correctly the leather might be resistant to static naturally! http://hideinthesound.com/?product_cat=suede-mats Picked mine up at amazon for less, then saw that the updated version of my tt comes with a similar mat now! That and the zerostat works here.

  4. Wouldn't this be like starting a never ending cycle ? Since your talking about it anyway, can you spot the Jamaican in a crowd ?

  5. Don't sell unless you really have to, like to pay for medical bills or the irs because they are about to take your house away (tyrannical government). You already know how good they sound, and you will never replace them for the money you will get for them.

  6. Well I did get beater chorus IIs for 200 just up the valley. But a few hundred dollars hardly compensates. did thebes ever tell you about the time I could get 4 laScalas for 800? I had no room at the time to put them anywhere, nor transport to get them. Your reference is even worse because it is on kauaii, where few people live and shipping inter-island takes it way past a deal.

  7. Not me! Do like `em both though. Got side one on now........ Joe B can jam, seen him on tv and through the YAH & Heresy IIs..... That is ending soon, sold them to guy a couple hours north of here, will be coming to get them soon. I know I will live to regret it H IIs will hit you with the music, My F IIIs won't, but make the better bass that started the total stereo rebuild not long ago. Get/Give Push/Pull Yin/Yang always something, but I do like the change in my rig and records that I haven't been able to enjoy for about three years prior!!

  9. Everything is more expensive there. Whatever you pay here, triple it, unless it's real estate, then it's way worse.

  10. For one that may not be hip to. Saw them once in JAX as recall a very good concert:. LaScala's sounding better with this recording over the Chorus. Last YouTube for me today:

  15. A few factors: Americans have had a long history of what might be termed anti-intellectualism, though I think the term is not quite accurate. Independence of thought and action as well as a mistrust of anything approximating a class system (as is the underlying structure in Europe), has been a defining characteristic of American culture. There is an ingrained common sense aspect at play. This temperament along with the very obvious incorrectness and failure of various intellectuals over the years, has maintained a natural skepticism towards such things, more-so than anywhere else in my opinion. The modern trend to downplay or delegitimize classical western philosophers while at the same time promoting some pretty wobbly political extremist thought that runs counter to what we can see with our own eyes has not helped. For example the 300 “genders” or whatever the figure is up to this week. Popular culture is just that and is nothing new really. It just seems more so. At one point of time those who were interested in such things (intellectual pursuits), lived and worked with others of a similar bent. With social media and a more mobile lifestyle we encounter more and different people than we would have a few decades ago when people were more likely to remain in one area. Final thought, many philosophers over the centuries have pondered the human condition; as someone once said there is nothing new under the sun.

  17. After hearing Tommy James talk on radio about his experience with the Shondells' label and management, I know it is true. Reads like a comedy of sorts complete with thug like figures. Van Morrison got his acoustical guitar broken over his head when he wanted to do lp's versus 45rpm's...

  18. you can see the platter material here: it may be the source of my issues... Ive had a fully hotrodded Rega P5 and a Classic II (as well as various Thorens) I think the Rega P5 out fitted as it was was my favorite TT... the Classic II had to much adjustability. it's like a very fine watch that needs constant attention and adjustments. I listen to mainly what you listen to dirtmudd... I have all those LP's, the 801, UK live, half speed Close to the edge etc... but I also collect soundtracks.

  19. A Theramin... I shot this short video when I played my first LP on the new set up... it sounded really great right out of the box with some minor tweaking. Now I have run into some issues and need to work thru them to get the systems firing on all cylinders. It seems I am picking up some really radical static build up from somewhere and I can barely listen to any recordings. I've been unable to track it down though I have a feeling that it might be the platter and the material used. It seems the platter, although made from aluminum, has a mat made from Vinyl... the exact same vinyl used to make records. Perhaps this is where the static build up is coming from. I 've never had issues with static before on any other turntable I've owned. Disregard the mess, I have a new monitor on the wall, an amp is out being worked on, nothing is in its final positioning... but it's a work in progress.

  20. Ok, so maybe not a "great" photo but here is Lily knocked out cold. She didn't hear me open the door. Not like I was quiet either as there is a chain on the door. So much for being a robust guard dog.

  21. it's my local community college.. where I met Rick Danko..... Marillion's first sold out....America concert....And Stanley Jorden..by himself....with Jaco Pastorius by himself....as the opening act.... and the m.v.c.c concert board... promoted Peter Gabriel's in 1982 at the Stanley theater.... It's was a cold night in Utica that evening as it always in Central NY during November. But this night was about to heat up as a sold out Stanley Theatre of mostly college students we in attendance. The concert was promoted by Mohawk Valley Community College thus this is the liberated name of the boot in the trade community. Peter used this theatre to his advantage as he open the concert with “Rhythm Of The Heat”, Peter and the band marched up to the stage banging drums from the back lobby of the Stanley. Peter wore the “Monkey make-up”. During “Shock The Monkey” This is the first tour he crowd-surfed during “Lay Your Hands On Me” . This was surely the highlight of the show as he passed right over me as I sat in the 12th row, a fan in attendance said. During "San Jacinto he used a reflected light off a hand-held mirror into the another high point for me. Peter wore the black martial arts type outfit with white knee pads.

  26. If I had looked/known when I signed up .... around town, we have a lot of Ray's. To avoid confusion, there is PlumberRay, WalkingRay, CrackheadRay - this one is legend then there are "Reds" ... RedBilly, RedGeorge lots of Bills, too WildBill, RedBilly, DollarBill .. I can only imagine what they use to reference me. weather turned crap for DizRotus. Hope they had indoor activities for today. Overcast and mid 70's. Rained a few drops here. CrackheadRay... I will remind you, this is a small community. Everyone knows everyone. Seems CrackheadRay stole a tractor and used it to break into a house. Stole some guns and food and didn't think the homeowner would know who it was ... We do think CHRay had some help thinking this up, though ... then when the cops showed up, he refused. enter the SWAT team, Blackhawk helicopter ... the whole circus he gave up. no blood spilled. but what a dimass

  29. Yeah, I think so, too. The Age of Enlightenment couldn't have come at a better time - namely, juxtaposed to the scientific revolution and industrialization. I wonder if the latter had anything to do with the transition into "Enlightenment." Thanks, oldie! The feeling is mutual. And, yeah, I'm going to be 50. Kind of odd, but I don't feel old (I just know I am).

  33. Don’t go rushing to spend your money. Adjust the placement, including the toe in, of your speakers to your taste. Utilize the tone controls of your receiver. Those two things will fix the majority of issues and don’t cost a dime. And are immediately reversible. Don’t look for the most difficult to implement solutions. Keep it simple.

  34. @dirtmudd That dude on the videos has a fine looking McIntosh system ✅ @JohnJ The material that 60s / 70s prog bands ( Infact all genre bands ) released was outstanding Lots of musicianship, lots of factual subjects in the songs But sadly most bands broke up due to being mishandled by management and mishandled money matters

  40. WOW a WillyBob talking to a BillyBob, and they live on separate ends of the country. If we only had JoeBob After hearing a Chorus, a LaScala might seem a little bass shy, but what your really getting is a much bigger and open midrange. imo You can always add a small sub to fill in.

  41. So, if you want to smoke me out, here it is. And I welcome comments and counter theories, especially those without ad hominems. The 70s were an economic disaster with price and wage freezes, inflation, and stagflation. People were losing their butts in tbe stock market. We had lots of experts providing opinions and solutions and our leaders always seermed to choose the worst ones. After Volker decided to squash inflation expectations, by raising rates to the roof, it caused even more pain but finally worked. By 83, things were looking up. Most, not all, (just for you gilbert) had enough of the pain that hurt the working man the hardest, that making money again became the focus. Bills have to be paid. Tired of expert opinions, which were often wrong, people (for gilberts sake most) judt wanted to make money. Wall Street skyrocketed, investors were getting rich again, greed was good, so good it became glorified in popular culture. Thoughts, ideas, mattered far less than how much money do you make? We (most of us gilbert) didn't care about anything that did not make money. Philosophy became a luxury, even in the richest country in the world( at least top ten gilbert). Buying up going concerns, laying off all of the workers and selling off the pieces became an art form. Because it was easy money. College was simply a means to learn skills to make money instead of providing a broad based education. The intellectual became a dying breed. If it is alive and well, please point me in their direction. People who weigh all sides and come to conclusions bereft of preconceived certitudes. Where are the Faulkners of our times? The Buckleys?
