  10. Yes those are cars where roads are salted for snow. As a rule, not much snow in Florida, unfortunately. Cars that reside mostly in coastal zones in Florida are abit different. Inland here 45 miles approx. from Gulf, no rust on mine and, it came from Tampa, inland. Best around here to spray/wash off the salt after a vacation to coast, even if undercoated. Hard for me to plan too far ahead as, I am recently retired and, do not wear a watch. As for intentions well, that is another slippery slope...imlo

  13. --- by the time this much effort/$$$ is put into transporting these maybe put them on pallets and ship them? Not as expensive as you might think and they are to your door. I'd bet less money than the driving costs for such a trip ??

  20. I really don't wish to throw fuel on the fire of this subject, but I will say that the above quote is a real problem for MQA individuals if true. It says that these men are trying to lock up the reproduction chain and all the components in between with a proprietary format for monetary gain. It also appears that the inventors are trying to do that deliberately--so demerits to them...if true. I've personally found that anyone trying to sell the idea of doing something proprietary (i.e., for profit) to "make the sound better than its source" is always selling snake oil. What baffles me is the number of people that seem to want to defend this kind of thing. That's what I believe we should be looking at more closely: why someone would choose to believe in something that they clearly don't understand in depth. What I do know first hand is that even small attempts to rescue fidelity from our recordings in the form of reversing the ubiquitous mastering practices that actually degrade fidelity can lead to significant increases in perceived fidelity over what we usually get to buy. Perhaps this is what Art is experiencing. A very small restraint of the human cultural processes that serve to degrade recorded music fidelity leads to much better sounding music--because most of it is pretty bad as bought (IMO). Even very small amounts of restraint in these widespread mastering processes that damage music fidelity leads to disproportionate perception of increased fidelity. I've come to the conclusion that many of those people that claim to be "mastering engineers" (in the very loose sense of the term "engineer") really don't know what real hi-fi sounds like, and tend to discount any complaints from those consumers that do spend time and resources building up their setups to hear higher fidelity. I've found that the individuals that do this to our music have a predictable mea culpa: "if I don't do this to the music, I won't get paid to do it anymore." How odd it is...indeed. Chris

Mine is getting a little lonely in the "wide open spaces" HaHaHa Trying to figure an angle to get me to the pilgrimage, get the Scalas home and make the wife happy about it. Any of you guys have a nice vehicle they will fit in, get ~30mpg and have 100,000 miles left in it for $3000. That wold do it...

  39. The Forte III has a sensitivity of 99 dB at 2.83 volts at 1 Meter (39.37 inches away), "In an average listening room" (the footnote on the spec sheet). If you play music very loudly. and you have "an average listening room" (not huge, i.e. 4,000 cu. ft., or less), neither too live nor too dead, and you sit about 10 to 15 feet away, and the speakers are near a wall (see instructions that came with the speaker) or other source of boundary gain, you should be fine. Out in such a room, at such a listening position, 100 watts would produce about 110 dB, which is louder than a sane person would ever want to go for more than an instant. I've gone there for a very occasional peak for just an instant (just a touch of a needle swing) with the loudest Mahler or Beethoven climax. As far as "instantaneous peaks" (well named), a matter of milliseconds, Klipsch says the Forte is good to 400 watts. Don't push it, though. Most speaker "blow outs" occur because somebody plugs or unplugs a cable between a preamp and amp, or source (phono, tape, CDplayer, etc.) and preamp or receiver, with the power on. I always unplug everything concerned before messing with those RCA style plugs. Other sources of trouble are test tones that are pumped in at too high a level (primarily into a tweeter or midrange), electronic music, parties in which the wrong person grabs the volume control, especially when in Altered State, etc., or loaning your equipment out for a "Dance at the Gym." You have an incredibly high quality system there!
