  1. If you don’t have this already @Tim Sr. The hammer test was originally advertised by AR themselves

  2. Today's update: AR XA It has been an interesting and educational day. I did my inspection on the barrel with a microscope to get a good look at the pivot cups, and what I saw was rather surprising ( A lot of images "Warning") I was figuring on a small cup cut into the brass for each pivot point. I have read about "Bearings" in the barrel by other folk working on these. There was never much clarification here to the why and what of these bearings. and what I found was a steel insert in the brass that the pivot is supposed to couple with. One pivot here shows a ridge line or wear at the point it coupled to the steel sleeve. The other pivot looked acceptable. I will not be able to set the jewels into this, and see that would not be the correct solution here. Ideally having two new pivots and a new sleeve would be best. I tried to clean up the pivot screws using a pin vise and 600 grit, putting the pin vise in the lathe holding the pivot, but the overall impact was nil. I searched to see what was available and came up empty, other than picking up an used arm to rob parts off of, but the same issues would be likely for the given age and such. So I decided to try an old trick to see if there was another possibility. Insert a graphite rod into the sleeve and then create a new point to receive the pivot, allowing the pivot to ride in and on a graphite surface. continued...

  3. Hi @dirtmudd I would like the G with the brass, not the GR or GR2 😉 At the time it was made in Japan, but it is the same G as the one made today in Malaysia

  4. I had to hunt long and hard to find a proper graphite source (about 30 seconds of walking) and taper the end for a good fit and I think this might just be the way to go(for now). The end result is a balance of 0.11 grams accuracy. Less that that the arm still falters but achieving zero g balance is now much better. The minimum I would ask of this arm to track with would be a minimum of 0.75 and normally would be a tracking force of 1.0 to 1.25 g. I will continue to watch for replacement parts and fiddle with some watch shaft/points as a possible modification for the future. I am satisfied though with the result of the graphite bearing here. Now onto the more challenging tasks of proper cleaning.

  5. Hey Dave where I'm from that's around the block. Doesn't even qualify as short road trip... would have been less than 5 minutes without the red light! Best food truck I've ever run across!

  6. 53 and sunny here in Duckburg this morning. Saw the "Cousins" food truck was here yesterday so I scrubbed all missions for a short road trip down for a couple lobster rolls & a couple bisque's. Normally I could care less about those things but these guys run a first rate operation. Pricey but good stuff. Werkin on today's game plan. Lil trip downtown to here my local dudes play since my buddy's back on lead after shoulder surgery. It's a retired mailman thing. He and his wife have been hittin the road for some great outdoor shows like Memphofest in Memphis so took some time off to heal and rehab. Just a cover band for the most part but they're good. @JohnJ's holdin his own. I stumble down and he's got coffee ready so that's a plus. He's also fun to tweek but he's catchin on to that. No blood, no foul! 😂

  9. our weather is almost normal.... 45` - 50` AM... 80` - 85` afternoon. Still dry... that is normal for time of year. my other wife is home. She's gonna have to suffer my cooking until she can do it for herself. She can get around a little. I don't know how much use she has of her arm ... and I suppose it is her dominate side....knives and that kind of stuff might get dicey.... pun intended. We're delivering food today. Spaghetti and home-made bread. That will keep her for a day or two.

  10. Part of my stash. Began w/full inch stained shelving boards and decorative concrete blocks, then had a guy build my cabinet. Inch oak, 4 feet long w/a toe kick board 4 inches high on the bottom, smoked glass on recessed tracks so the bottom edge of the lp wouldn't get torn up. Picked up the other two pieces of the gray shelving board up @ a local 2nd hand store for 10$. It's lagged w/4" wood screws into the wall studs along with some 2x2's for support in the middle. Also, not showing is an old 5 shelve solid oak military bookcase I picked up on fb marketplace for $35 and the guy delivered it for $20. Today, once again, I'm outta room w/6 stacks of stuff leaning against whatever I can lean it on. This is a couple years old. Originally I thought I'd need maybe 3 cabinets in my llifetime. That's 50 years worth so plan accordingly. Think WEIGHT! 😂

  11. @Full Range Thank you for sharing this. I have watched this video several times and I will not be hammering nails into wood on my AR I can promise you. I do like this video and his whole approach. I am about to post an update here in a few moments with some interesting pictures.

  14. You should stop. You often seem out of touch. The parts are high quality, they just happen to be the wrong parts for a vintage Klipsch rebuild. My personal take is that their networks just don’t sound that great. Actually, most business goes to Crites. Accessible customer support Online shopping Overnight shipping Payment plans Free returns Nothing Jim or me offer can satisfy the appetite for instant gratification. I certainly have no desire to build junk so I can compete with what amounts to a small factory. I’m out in the wilds quite a bit, and there is no end to the complaints of poor customer support and lack of real support for the vintage stuff - and almost everyone is absolutely tired of the K-77 tweeter. I am incapable of building an argument to continue its use. Sorry,

  15. Sadly... But at least You found a nice place and put it up the way you like it. So in that little regard at least it´s money well spend. As for me, I´m done now. If I want new stuff, I have to get rid of something first. Not that there wouldn´t be "new" gear I like... I never thought I would get this much into vintage though. 🙃

  19. Pretty sure you put the b-52s up there @MicroMara but it doesn't play here. Man that sure was a good lunch! I got to see a lot of colors driving through West Virginia a couple weeks ago. By the way you have to pay to drive through that freaking state The highway all the sudden turns into a toll road and you got to have your quarters ready! $12.75 to drive through!

  20. Ah heck, if only I could do arithmetic I would have put 17 up there instead of 13. But then again one of my acquaintances started calling me " foggy" about then Did I mention that @Dave1291 is an alright guy? Well besides the college football and political diatribes that is He sprung for lunch earlier, my phone takes massive pictures... I'll try to get it in here anyhow. I'm ruined.... I tell ya!

  21. I just moved to a new place and I need something to store a couple hundred albums. I'm going to need about 100 inches of shelving. The place I moved from had nice built in book case. On line all I see is the Ikea boxes and then some special album display cases that cost close to $1000. Will a well built book case that in 12 inches deep work I can't see why not. Thanks.

  25. It’s an old method that has gone out of favour but plumbers hemp rope threads are finer than human hair and thats why I thought it was ideal or at the very least worth the experiment
    1 point
  26. @Tim Sr. Are you able to re tap the thread on the cone screws and insert to rejuvenate them I know of the carbon trick and I have also used ground steel scale and that also works If I can make a suggestion on another method even if it’s an experiment Try plumbers hemp rope Or non dry putty one that never hardens

  27. They can, with the right parts and instructions. Two of the parts he is asking about are not available. He started a thread in technical and then disappeared. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  43. Just bumping this up and featuring it for a little while. Please have a look at your notification settings and turn off any email notifications you do not wish to get. It seems some email providers (like yahoo and hotmail) are flagging our email system as "annoying", which is just a tick down from "spam" (and causes emails from here to be suppressed), because apparently some email users have made complaints about emails they are getting from here. That could have been solved by just turning off email notifications AND/OR unfollowing content (which can be done in your account settings > https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/followed/). Just a friendly PSA. Thanks!
