How do you know if you're overweight? When you step onto the Speaking Scale, and it says, "One at a time, please."6 points

The SL-1400 MK. 2 is a beautiful turntable. That was my first Technics deck, and I liked it, especially the rosewood trim. However, it was showing its age (1978), with a ticking sound as the platter spun, plus the controls were feeling sticky. I got one of the last 2010 SL-1210M5G turntables (had to buy it from a music shop in Calgary), and I'm glad I did. Of course, it came without a cartridge, so I just took the headshell off the 1400, complete with Shure M97xE cart, and popped it on. Then I took the thick Platter Matter mat off the 1400 and replaced the thin rubber mat that came with the M5G. It was simple to raise the tonearm height to correct for the much thicker Platter Matter, and it was time to spin a disc. I expected to get rid of the slight ticking noise, and the controls felt like they were brand new, which they were, of course. That was about the extent of my expectations. However, it was immediately obvious that this was an upgrade. Maybe it was the improved tonearm wiring. The bass was more solid, and somehow I could hear the music more clearly. It wasn't a day and night difference, but it was not hard to notice. I was pretty surprised, considering that everything that was touching the LP was straight off the 1400 MK 2, from the stylus on the top to the mat underneath. And yet there was no doubt it was an upgrade. I'd expect that if I replaced the M5G with a new SL-1210G, there would be another step up in fidelity, bringing me that much closer to the music. However, I don't spin LPs that often, so it would be a lot of money for a small return. There has to be some financial common sense, right? Of course, any non-hi-fi buddies wold think that common sense disappeared years ago, lol. The turntable would look better with the silver-coloured headshell that it came with, so I packed up the turntable and took it to Sound Hounds, where they happily swapped the M97xE onto the new headshell, and then did a precision alignment for me. That was in late 2010, and the turntable still looks, feels, and sounds like it's brand new. I've changed the stylus once or twice, and that's been it for maintenance, apart from dusting it. Here's something: Of course, a stylus wears and needs to be replaced periodically, but I've heard that the magnets in a stylus can sometimes lose their magnetism over the years, even if the stylus itself is still fine, meaning it should be replaced. Has anyone else heard this?6 points

@MicroMara I put an offer in on the house today. Other houses on that street that are all downhill from there are 3, 000 to 5000 ft², I might get it for 10k less so that's what we are starting out with. It's on a huge lake also. But with that one cove at the bottom of the hill there's no way it could ever get to where I am unless it is a Biblical thing!4 points

New stuff is colored - mostly, the older LPs are black. Have to watch out, if I wash the coloreds too often they will turn black too... 🤪🙃3 points

Jason Isbell is really well liked in Nashville, but his music doesn't get a lot of big radio play. Always superb lyrics. Thrre is a very electric version on the album (Weathervanes), but this acoustic version really hits as well. By all accounts, a super nice guy and bluntly honest. There's a 48 minute interview from NBC that is really good, too.3 points

@AndreG. think I told you that wasn't really my style. Also that I listened to the whole thing and had to have it because it is a far out disc to listen to!3 points

The key takeaway is that while black vinyl used to be the only option for best audio quality, the advancements in vinyl manufacturing have made it possible to produce high-quality colored vinyl records as well. So, whether you prefer black vinyl or colored vinyl is ultimately a matter of personal preference.2 points

It is not possible to make such a recommendation. A particular tube will likely sound different in every piece of equipment in which it is used because of differences in operating parameters. Personally, I don’t believe in tube rolling but, if it’s important to you, you need to buy a number of different types and evaluate them yourself in your piece of equipment. Maynard2 points

Good Morning JJ ...you see , the last ten years I lived in a beautiful house , surounded by a forest , horse-cheep & cow medows, and a near by big lake , far far away from the civilisation , next neighbor was 1.700 f away , below the hill , where the house is placed, there was a riding stable , that´s it. The near by village had a population approx. 1000 citicans , a grocery store, a pharmacy, a doctor & dentist and a pub. W/out a car I would be lost ! Now I´m back living w/in the civilisation , that´s what I missed in the last years . Glad that these times are history now. The human being is a herd animal2 points

I can't wait to see this tonearm!!.... Funny how a few hours ago I was pondering a concrete tonearm, just because I was studying tonearm geometry......2 points

For what I read, and correct me if wrong. K77 round magnet is the older version and the K77M square magnet is the newer-ish version? My klipschorns are from 1990, not sure if I would hear any difference between the square or round K77? Also, what's a fair price for a pair of K77M tweeters? Seen a few on eBay but I feel their prices are too high.1 point

I got lucky, Grabbed a couple Army cot's on the way out the door. When the first turned into a hammock I broke out the second one. Hit 66 here today so I did a "leaf removal solid" for some here in the hood. Hit the kid next to me only cause they were filling my yard, then went a couple houses the other way and hit my old buddies yard. Known the guy for prolly 50 years and I was the first he told about his colon cancer. A month ago he told me it was back and inoperable. He and his wife were out there yesterday piddlin around so I went his way and mopped up the mess. He was out again piddlin so I yelled at him to get in the house and he didn't hear me so I pointed and he started laffin. Put stuff in the garage and the city boys were out here w/the big vac. Perfect! Tomorrow it's repeat.1 point

I have an installation of in-ceiling speakers, using 4-conductor wiring. Well, the wires were mixed up in a connection, with the positive connections going to one speaker and the negatives to another. After the mistake was corrected, neither speaker will work. Are they ruined, or can they be repaired?1 point

I don't think the amp was damaged. I connected the speakers to another amp that I know is functional, made sure the connections were correct, and still no sound. Is there something that should be checked within the speaker?1 point

I just noticed the Klipsch website no longer has the KI362 in the current commercial lineup. Has this speaker been removed from production? What will take the place of the 362? PGH1 point

I just purchased a pair of KI-262's for my churhc, and have a question on the specs. On the Klipsch website, the FR for the 262s is indicated as 77Hz 20kHz +/-4db, -10db @ 66Hz. The cut sheet and owners manual indicate the KI-262 FR is 75Hz 12.5kHz +/-4db, -10db @ 64Hz. Which is correct? And if the top end is 12.5kHz, what is the problem, if any, with the cutoff at that level? I understand that FR is just one indication of sound quality, and not necessarily a good one, but would the 12.5kHz be a serious limit?1 point
