  4. True. We're gonna see how pissed off the neighbors can get. My strategy is my rugged La Scalas on wheels and toolbox audio system - if any of the 5 neighbors in the cul-de-sac want to have a party, they may borrow them. Can't really complain about me if they're doing it too. 12 minutes? It appears we are about 1 mile apart as the crow flies. Oh, and about 3 more weeks here at the beach.

  5. A young Great Horned Owl posing on our fence. Another very close shot. When he was even younger, he almost took my hat off while I was working out back. I ducked just before he grabbed my hat. . I was wearing a grey one. Maybe thought a bunny on my head? Never seen anything like that before. Wife got a kick out of seeing that happen. Probably would have taken half my head off though to.. I didn't laugh at first...😃

  6. Pulled the pro speakers out a little the other day. The 1/4" felt pad arrived for the rug that's not here yet, put it down. Mids to lows seem more solid, just a little, the sound absorption brought the separation and "presence" into distinction. Pulled the sub into the mix, low pass at 36 then 32Hz now 30. Vol at -24 up from -38 as before. Listening levels have gone up. Made it past the bass interruption, Xanadu is on and my music is more like normal, except better now! Love the way the mids & highs emulate a LaScala!

  9. Don't forget to bring a pressie home from the beach for Chuckie! Beach ball for the hot tube? Just something to share the love. 😂 Don't worry about the neighbors and gain. Prolly the first time they really heard a system cook. Upper 70's around here today. Got my spring cleaning done. Blew almost every teensie wittle bit of dust out thru the french doors. Bwa ha ha... Sounded great too! Ok, no @grasshopper yet so gonna have to nose and see if I have his number. I'm thinkin somewhere between Dave1290 & Dave 1291. That doesn't work I'll have to call the Sheriff's office down there and have 'em do a welfare check when they get down that way. Cat's may have got him. 😂 😂 😂

  13. The short answer is yes. There's more to a sub than just the driver. I had an RSW-10 outperform a PSW PRO 660i - which is a 12" Polk subwoofer. The Polk wasn't a bad woofer, it just wasn't designed the same as the RSW-10, used a different cabinet acoustic method, better amp - just all around different. Even a move from the R-12SW to the RP-1200SW would be a major difference in sonic experience.

  14. Received my 12SW and playing around with levels, locations and letting it break in. Think I like it but jury is still out. For $150 new out of my pocket, it’s a great deal. So let me ask…just relating to performance (not reliability)…would I notice a big difference in sound if I were to eventually graduate to an SVS or other brand BUT SAME 12” driver? Let’s just say $1k or less new? Mind u I’m an old drummer and my hearing is still good but I don’t put myself in the audiophile category Maybe I’m looking where to spend my money in a few years.

  15. [Verse 1] Crowded streets all cleared away, one by one Hollow heroes separate, as they run You're so cold, keep your hand in mine Wise men wonder while strong men die [Chorus] Show me how it ends, it's all right Show me how defenseless you really are Satisfied and empty inside Well, that's all right Let's give this another try [Verse 2] If you find your family, don't you cry In this land of make-believe, dead and dry You're so cold, but you feel alive Lay your hand on me, one last time [Chorus] Show me how it ends, it's all right Show me how defenseless you really are Satisfied and empty inside Well, that's all right Let's give this another try

  18. @MMurg I just want to be clear in my head that I can use the MC830 mono-blocks that I already have for the LF section of the active crossover and will need four more channels of amplification for the MF & HF section of the active crossover?

  21. Dave Harris built a speaker system he named the Yield. Its an open baffle full ranger with two 15 inch open baffle drivers mounted behind an 6 inch hole. The results are amazing. I have owned the speakers for 12 years but now have to get rid of them,

  26. With that empty space behind it, and it's through two levels I'll second @Khornukopia above. Done by either by the builder or another owner to obscure wiring. We've been in the days of Home Theaters being recognized as a "thing" for a couple decades now. That place might have other nifty features built in also! Nice!

  29. After much experimentation in my small space with various speakers. (Wharefdale Diamond 10.1, B&W 303, B&W 600, Boston Cs 23) I settled on the Klipsch R-14m now superseded by the R-41m everything else overloaded the room. These do a terrific job, sound great at low volumes, even played loud they do not upset my neighbour, who is a bat of note. Using a Cambridge Audio Sonata AR 30 receiver. Everything else I used had bass bloom and sounded awful because of the small space. In the small space the bass is more than enough. On a larger space they are lost and rip your ears off. I sit right on top of them they image perfectly, have great detail. and just put a smile on my face.

  30. Line Magnetic 211IA, this amp is stunning on both my Cornscala D's, and the KG 4's. It even gets my Vandersteen 2CE Signatures realy rocking on 12W triode without any problems at all. Built like a German tank not at all like a Russian one. At $1850 new it cant be beat. It stands head to toe with my other amplification, an Audio Research SP16L Pre, and Opera Consonance Cyber 800 mono blocks. That is $6,000 worth of amps. I have done direct comparisons on my set ups with a lot of other amps some costing upwards of $6,000+, it has seen most off, none have realy bettered it unless you nit pick.

  31. KG 4's, mine like every amp I play them on, I have the Kenwood KA 7100 they play great on this amp as well as a Teac BX-300. The solid state amp of mine they realy shine on is a bottom of the line 12 w Technics SUZ-15, go figure. So I would not be concerned, they are very forgiving speakers. Feed them with a good push pull triode switchable EL 34 amp, and you are in for a very pleasantly surprising listening experience.

  32. If the original recording was mono then that is what I prefer. Same with Stereo. A good mono recording is so much more dynamic and real to me than it's sister the hash mix stereo. Example some fellow brought a re issue stereo LP to a demo, some Jimmy Hendrix thing never paid much attention because I do not like his stuff. That is by the by, when I pointed out the fact that the guitar was coming through the left channel and the voice through the right. The reaction was a puzzled look directed my way, as if the bloke had absolutely no idea that the fellow played and both sang in in the middle. Another thing that confuses me is exactly where were did Ringo set up his drums was he in the middle left or right. Well the stereo re mixes are all over the show, he might have even been suspended from the sealing for all I know. Stereo re mix no thanks, always sounds like a product of a sound engineer; not the artist.

  33. You will have to pry my KG 4's out my cold dead hands. Probably have the only set remaining in South Africa. Got them mint from an ex sound engineer at the State Broadcaster. My second favorite speaker after my Vandersteen 2CE Signatures. They are just plain fun to listen too, make me smile every time. Got some Cornscala D's in the works which should be ready in month or two. Perhaps they will topple the Vandies, cant wait. Klipsch speakers of the Heritage line and all the classics you guys have access to, just are not available here. There are however B&W's in every second home so to speak, never could figure that out.

  34. Interesting had a Miniwatt here for a while while it was not bad, it was not as good as another Cheapy the Aria Mengyue 6P1 Mini amp at less than $150. the Meng has the edge, it is 3 dimensional, better bass and more detail. The Miniwatt fell short in these respects by an obvious margin.. Plus it had much more drive and oomph Have had it for 5 years without any hassles fitted some Russian power tubes that's all, cost next to nothing. That amp got me keen on valves now all my stuff is valve. Use it now as a headphone amp feed by My Audio Research Pre. Can be used as a power amp plug in the pre turn the volume up and off you go. It has driven every speaker I have thrown at it from Kef reference 2's, B&W 805's, Wharfedale Diamonds to my Vandersteen 2's loud enough without distortion to get the Cops in. Has no problems on my KG4's where the Mini watt battled a bit in comparison. Miniwatt would make a good desk top amp, just to gutless to make it fun on real world speakers.

  35. Got this driving My KG4's and Vandersteen 2CE Signatures. Line Magnetic 211IA Two and a half years of daily trouble free use use. Amazing amp punches way above its price. Still have not had to adjust bias which is so simple on this amp. Drives the Vandies in 12w Triode with great results, gutsy little thing. Great drive great bass great detail realy musical. 3 dimensional it is a keeper. Have had the 219IA on demo, amazing sound but way out my price range.

  40. Hey Matt, I'll give you a couple of Basics here. Example: A Living Room. Most of the time all the Outlets in the Room are connected to a Single 10 amp Circuit Breaker. Chances are, you're pulling Most of the Power from the Outlet where all your Electronics plugged into. I hope you are using a Surge Protector Power Strip and NOT a Cheap Multi-Plug Outlet extention ! If you use a Power Strip you should be OK. If your House is New, All the Breakers in the Breaker Box should be Labeled. (Example: Living Room). What you described should Not be pulling anywhere close to 10 Amps. Hankhank
