I hope these don't end up in the dumpster https://www.ebay.com/itm/186511681309?itmmeta=01J4Q07R9334RWQ253XT685C0K&hash=item2b6cf6671d:g:vAEAAOSwgNhmdy4B&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAAwOTg9mqh%2BcFbeOt9wHgRJIlk7ABjJXbRJgoB3FxMFx%2B6fqj3AKlXjZDUX60x0LQf0B9RkTwpMXVcgEmWr1h3XbCHEheT%2BZfSGSVpMuowbdUq1XSgtNKLm5Og9ya%2B7mqWZ2Th1PLYyTg2tkCTlKpU0wXA7Ily2IQdv3tpdGlfFrNIM224v56eV8vsRUgt07mKryqLsOQYfcGZIQhqMH7YiLrytED93cId1gKvZm46jbretIAV7vcGTofWFX5uII6d1g%3D%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR96En-ClZA2 points

I've been communicating with him. This is a functional system. I have these in a 36 x 36 room and jaws drop when I play them. Midbass thickness like no other .....that slams. jc2 points

Saw them with Guns and Roses in 1987 or 1988, can't remember now. They said they were passing the torch, this was after rehab and they instead came back with a vengance. I will admit it was a great show for both bands at the time. I am 61 and aerosmith was very much a part of my highschool days growing up, good times.1 point

Trey, you certainly are right there! I know you put your heart and soul into the only Pilgrimage I've attended: Hope in 2006. You and the whole Klipsch team, plus some great volunteers and forum members really made that an amazing event for everyone. Many thanks to all those on the Forum who help make this place such a great resource. Maybe I'll make it to another event someday! -triceratops1 point

The amplifiers power supplies and rectification for both B+ and the bias supply are located on the capacitor frame. This assembly takes the bulk of the labor to rewire on this project. The board holds capacitors for the tube circuits on one side and the resistors on the other. The finished amp came out quite nice.1 point

I have a pair of these on my bench right now except mine are the 6v6 version.. I've just oredered can caps to replace the ones on top as there is no room underneath. I still have the console these came in and I am restoring for my wife as her stereo. It has JBL LE8 speakers. Now an old engineer told me these amps were built to make the speakers flat... If that is true I wonder what the bandwidth is and how we reverse the eq to use these elsewhere.1 point

Fisher 400c stereo preamp and a pair of fisher 200a monos. The extra shelf space is for a fisher 55a that is being serviced. The 200s drive 1979 Khorns and the 55a will be for the center heresy III. And yeah, busted. I’m listening to the parasound right now. I’ve hardly noticed the quarantine. Why leave the house?1 point

Islander, organ music is my bag. I have a recording of Bach's Taccata And Fugue In D Minor performed at one octave below Bach's composition to take advantage of the organ's 64 foot pipes. I know that my system will not reproduce these 8Hz notes, but the Radio Shack SPL meter was measuring 104dB at 20Hz. This was a jaw-dropping experience. I have another recording of Mussorgsky's Pictures At An Exhibition done with an organ performing down to the same notes. The shock wave was awesome. Using an equilizer for the woofer is a good idea. I'm having trouble maintaining a flat dB line from 80Hz down to the lowest limits. Originally I was going to use two subs with each taking care of one octave (80 to 40Hz for one and 40 to 20Hz for the other). An equilizer sounds a lot more practical.1 point

Mark, I agree with your view that the image created from the minibox should not be changed. The image is natural and smooth from wall to wall with no abrupt emphasis at the center. What is really nice about the untampered minibox is that by making the center louder, you can actually make the image narrower for those that have K-horns that are too far apart. This also works with trios having two on the far sides and one in the middle. As I increase the volume of the center channel, I can actually "see" the left and right side sources gradually move toward the center. All that I've heard so far from this forum is the use of the center speaker to fill in the center hole by having the center channel volume slightly less than the sides. Even with this narrow image, the spectrum across the wall is still smooth and even, though not as much as if all the speakers had the same volume. Perhaps with the center speaker being louder, the time delay between the K-horns and the LaScala in the center won't be as obvious. How's that for a partial solution?1 point

The K-horns are ten feet apart forming an equilateral triangle with the sweet spot. I was able to do this with false corners. The hole in the center is not as obvious as when the K-horns are in the corner, but the center speaker does make a difference in making the image lifelike across the entire wall. Before changing the minibox resistors, the center sound was raspy. Now it's perfect!1 point

I tried to use a Forte II as a center speaker with Khorns. I nearly blew out the Forte woofer, and that was at low volume. Yes, Fortes definately need subwoofers. Compared to Khorns, the Forte II sounds like a Wave radio.1 point

After doing the A/B test with the La Scalas vs the Fortes as rear speakers, I have come to the conclusion that the La Scalas beat the Fortes by a mile or so. While the Fortes sound great (for a thousand dollars), they are not even close to the clarity of the La Scalas. I guess I'll keep those ugly speakers after all.1 point

Pure silver has a 0 (neutral) charge. Silver in silver oxide or any other silver compound has a positive 1 charge. If you oxidize silver, then you change it from pure silver with a 0 charge to an increased charge of positive 1. Are you want oxidized silver? Any oxidized silver will be in a tarnished form. The same goes with copper.1 point

Klipsch speakers produce an honest, revealing sound that shows any weaknesses with your system. Most people that complain about harshness in their Klipsch speakers can solve their problems by getting a better amplifier which is the actual source of the problem. Tube amplifiers have a built in distortion that hides the harsh sound of horn speakers. Some people say that tube amplifiers have a softer sound, and this is why. You will have to pay dearly for a solid state amplifier that can provide clean, detailed, honest sound. Until you can afford this ultimate amp, perhaps a tube amplifier would be best. The ringing effect of midrange metal horns is well known. If you hold up the long metal horn unattached from the cabinet and hit it with a metal object, you will hear the horn ring like a bell. However, if you attach and screw the horn back to the cabinet, the ring will stop. You will have no problem as long as the horn is attached to the cabinet as it should be.1 point

DaddyDee, at least you have a wife that enjoys music and stereos. That's one up on most of us.1 point

I know what you are going to say. I have Virtual Dynamics Black Knights, Nordost SPM interconnects, and Nordost Red Dawn cables. I got these for less than half price, and BEFORE I learned my lesson. From now on I'm getting Alpha-Core.1 point
