  1. Craig, Thanks, no I did not. I will send an email. One problem though, I don't know which email I used, I changed some of them and I may not even have that one anymore LOL!
  2. Bummer, I lost all the text! Anyway I know it has been a while since I have signed in and I can't get my old account working ! I an in need off a new AVR. While watching the Superbowl, the breaker tripped and even though it is on surge protection my avr will not pass video other than STD resolution. If the scaler needs to be used, the AVR drops the video. I took a look at Audiogon and came across the Denon x4000. I am looking to stay At $1k and used is OK but a feature set like the Denon is highly desired. Thanks in advance for any heads up on that unit or on other processors that are current. The Yamaha I have is about 5 years old and could stand an upgrade anyway. Wayne
  3. Amy, Hi, it has been a while since I visited and I see the forums have new software. I can't a activate my old account and I really don't want to be a noob again! Is it possible for you to help me get setup on my old account again? I tried to do the lost password sign in thing but my old account can't be found. Thanks in advance Wayne
  4. UH, quite likely, just the start. Quartets are great, I am using a pair as mains in a HT, nice setup with a sub. Congrats!
  5. I had a similar issue about a year ago, no place for the center in the TV room. I kept an eye on Craigs list and a 3 month old, like new high end stand showed up, the people moved and it did not fit where they wanted to put the TV. I saved about $300 by going used and just waiting and watching.
  6. Adding an outboard amp to an AVR, esp when you already own the amp, is an inexpensive way to seriously upgrade the quality of the sound. My HT runs 2 ob amps, one for mains and one for sides, letting the AVR run the center and rears, there are no issues with the sound now. I only wish it were that easy with my "den" or 2 ch room. I added a flat screen in there just to give me something to look at, then I added the flat screen to my sat tv setup, there is a ground loop someplace in the sat system. I have to unhook the HDMI from the TV when using the 2 ch rig, otherwise, I run all audio through the 2ch amp setup. Only the sat has the humm, CD, DVD, GAME, TUNER, TT, COMPUTER all work fine, only the sat box has a problem, an anoying 60 cycle problem!
  7. I bought my son a pair of KG 5.5s a few years ago, there was a buzz in them when the bass hit a certian range. It turned out that the glue line had seperated in the cab back and it was the back vibrating on the sides of the speakers. To repair, I removed the drivers and all that was inside the cabs, cleanded the mdf and glued in a 1x1 wood square strip all around the inside of the cab. This acted like an old fassioned glue block on better furniture and it sealed everything up nice and tight. I did both speakers just because if one went bad, the other likely was not far behind. This may or may not be of help but it was A cause of buzzing on a pair of KGs that we have. YMMV!
  8. From what I have played with on 8, it is one "upgrade" I fully intend to skip. The touch interface is hokey and it really isn't much differnent than 7 from all I understand about it, In my book, it ranks right up (down) there the same as win ME. (a looser of a system if there ever was one)
  9. Here, we have a law for the front windshield and front windows only, the whole back of the car can be blacked out if you want but only if you have two side mirrors (one on each side of the car for the smart A$$es who would put them both on the drivers side[:$]) The thing that they care about here is you being able to see traffic. My car is legal but my truck which I bought used, is not. You can have SOME tint on the front side windows but not more than 50% I think (may be 30%) but my truck are about 80%. In traffic it is not too bad but if you are parking in tight places or at night, you have to open the windows to see the mirrors and keep from hitting anything.
  10. You can buy a setup disc, Avia makes one and it comes with filters so you can accurately see colors to calibrate the system with. I did this to my HT projector but did not bother with just the LCD/LED TV, though it would be easy to do. All you need is a DVD player but I think they now have a disc for BD. http://www.ramelectronics.net/Video-calibration.aspx
  11. If the pipes are mounted solidly there should not be any movement in them, thus avoiding the problem. If you do have a problem you can plumb in anti hammer devices. They are cheep and they are a divided cylinder, like a shock on your car, so they can not fill with water. http://www.plumbingsupply.com/waterhammerarresters.html
  12. Do you need all 4 ch in the same box? There are some outstanding stereo power amps that will not cost an arm and a leg and in my old school way of thinking, they provide better sound too. YMMV!
  13. I seriously doubt any ratings on "new" (not from the '70s) gear. My AVR is rated 110wpc/7ch driven........ ya right. That is why I am running 2 obd amps, one for the mains and one for the sides. I figgure the AVR can take care of the center and rears without issue. I have had a board member over to listen to my HT and he remarked at how great it sounded, then he realized he had only an AVR and I had OBD amps. It makes a difference, both in the quality of the sound AND in the heat generated by the amplification equipment. YMMV!
  14. I have no issue with my PS3 (both v 1 and v2) and BD, even 3D BD. HDMI to AVR and all is well. In my TV setup, it is HDMI to TV then Opitical cable to the AVR, this is a 5.1 anyway and is used as a TV. If we want "good" viewing, we head into the HT, 7.1 with 2 obd amps to drive the 4 main speakers. YMMV!
  15. As a presence setup, yes they should go higher on the wall but I think the goal is to have a F50 (F30+F20) [] main setup. I know that when running identical speakers such as 2 Heresys on each side, the advice is to turn the top speaker upside down to prevent comb filtering of the two speakers but I really am not sure of what to do here. Am I correct to think that the goal is to have all 4 speakers in use as the front main speakers?
  16. Craig, Yes it is SS and a phone call would have been made first but it still needs preventaive service for a long for me, life. Thanks for the reply!
  17. While not Khorns, I have Quartets as mains, Academy center and H2s for sides with KG1.5 as backs. The further you get away from the mains, the less a perfect timber match is need, well, It works well for me YMMV!
  18. DUH! Yamaha factory service (outside contractor, Yamaha does not do their own service, at least not here) just repaired my AVR when the HDMI port broke. Cost me a hundred bucks. I need to contact them and find out what they want for the job, I bet they don't get many people asking for preventaive maint on an amp!
  19. The times you get hurt and DO NOT FEEL IT are the ones to be scared about! [:S] If I do something stupid and it hurts, I figgure that I didn't mess up too bad but if I KNOW I damaged something but don't feel it, then I REALLY assess what happened and if a trip to the ER is in order. Glad you wound up OK, it could have been much worse but then you don't need me to tell you that. Congrats on "minor" injuries.
  20. Yes most of it is garbage but sometimes, kinda like above, you need a "tool" for a small job and it is a lot easier to use their PO* for one or two things and often it is less expensive too. Some of the stuff is OK, I need a tach to measure some shaft RPM, they had a no contact laser tach (seen on line for $15 plus shipping from the tool con artists online) and they had one for $30 out the door. It did work just fine and it still is working with no issues at all, infact other than being slightly odd shapped to hold, it is a fair to middlin tool. Wrenches, sockets, welders etc...... buyer beware.
  21. I hate it,no I mean I HATE IT !!!!!![:@] I played with it on some demo laptops. If I wanted an apple or Mac, that is what I would buy! If I wanted a giant tablet, I would spend the bucks for that but there is NO way they are getting any of my "upgrade" dollars for that pile of crap! One of the big selling points is that you can have your desktop any way you like it and you can group anything you want anyway you want. UH, EXCUSE ME, I can do that anyway with folders on my desktop. I don't need giant floating pictures on my disktop. I don't care a bit to have my FACEBOOK automatically updated all the time, I don't even have access to the internet at home and nearly every "feature" of this pile o cra* requires internet. Nope, not one cent from me! Ask me how I REALLY feel sometime and I will tell you.[]
  22. It's great when things work out. Not a bad setup at all, quite nice! Enjoy those[]
