As some people have mentioned the k-horns have lots of "famous" fans in audio circles; some above mentioned Mark Levinson, another mentioned John Curl (a big fan of k-horns), Nelson Pass is another fan as was Sid Smith the great designer from the golden years of Marantz (model 8 and 9 among others). Dick Heyser and Gordon Gow were both users as well....while not everyone´s cup of tea, Klipshcorns are for many their favorite speakers ever, including me! warm regards, Tony

I have an old SAE tuner, owned it since new. never thought to upgrade, reception is more about antennas than the tuner IMHO. regards, T

I may have missed a post on this but have we established that the bass bins are jubilee clones? if so I wish Klipsch would go after them....anyone can confirm this for me? thanks, T

looks cool but can do nothing good, at worst you will pick up the vibrations as tubes always are a little micro-phonic and at best you will vibrate components that dont really like it. put them somewhere else. T

nothing really happens. nothing will have to be trahed or converted, just no support or changes from the rights holders. when has there been support or changes? encoders, decoders and equipment will all continue to function as always. this isnt really news...T

hopefully robo nerd will take a powder or at least learn some online etiquette. calling bullshit on basic electronic principals is plain stupid. he may claim that the losses are not significant or audible in his opinion but not call bullshit. I have noticed the site degrading over time as most everything becomes a quick tempered, almost religiously charged atmosphere. glad to see that the old timers stick around to post even in this environment. when I sit in the "sweet spot" (which I admit is rather small in my listening room) my klipschorns image like crazy. some speaker seem to have larger sweet spots (my maggies did for example) but I love the impact and jump my k-horns give me so I ignore the smallish imaging sweet spot. warm regards from sunny el salvador, Tony

Understood, but for me as a consumer there is going to be a price/performance and complexity/versus enjoyment threshold beyond which it makes no sense to live. I have reached the level at which I enjoy immensely my music and don't spend too much time thinking about performance. It's a luxury we consumers have over professionals. I still wonder about getting some steep slopes crossovers in my khorns but I can live with and enjoy my current system until that itch someday becomes too much not to scratch. Warm regards, Tony

When I was looking at digital crossovers and room correction, DEQX was the undisputed technology leader, I bought the top of the line at the time and looking at current secs for the HDP 4 and 5 it is hard to see how the systems you are referring to could be any better. Behringer is another level all together from the DEQX products, perhaps you are not familiar with them or their products? As I said, I don't doubt those who enjoy thier systems but for me, with the best stuff available at the time, it didn't float my boat. Regards, T

I have posted before about my DEQX based system and how I ended up going back to a analog crossover system. From the scientific standpoint I would never claim it is not possible to improve the performance of a system via these types of manipulation in the digital domain. However, in my case, the added complexity didn't add up to enough value to keep all that equipment in my system. I often mention the difference i discovered between system "performance" and music "reproduction". For me I had better results, for music listening, with my dumbed down system than I did with all the bells and whistles connected. I still wonder about implementing a steeper analog crossover but I have been cured of chasing an improvement in musical enjoyment via digital manipulation in my system. Ray's comments made me remember way back when I played around with my system I think the most significant positive contribution to improving the sound of my system was made with steep slope crossovers. Looking back at the period where I implemented triamping, time and phase adjustments, swapped out drivers, amps, etc. the only thing that really shook my world was when I had extremely steep crossover slopes. That seemed to provide numerous sonic benefits. In the end I dumped all that electronic wizardry and went back to a tube amp and ALK's first run of crossovers. I am happy with the music my system makes. But I still think about implementing a steep slope crossover again (without all the electronics, just a nice, analog steep slope xover). Warm regards, Tony

Audition amplifiers, go to an audio store and listen to different amps and preamps, or integrated amps, or receivers, into a single pair of speakers and you will hear differences,. They are mostly not related to the specs, they are related to design choices made by the designer/manufacturer. Specs tell you precious little about how a component will sound. Specs are about performance, not sound. It's fun to audition, by doing so you will learn about what you prefer. The answer is the best amp is the one you like best in your home, in your system, with your music. The only way to find out what that will be is via auditioning. Warm regards, Tony

Since its come back to the forum day....howdy folks. I have been playing more guitar and listening to fewer records these days (most music heard via iPhone into Klipsch earphones or my bedroom system with Macintosh integrated into my Klipsch bookshelf speakers) but I do miss the old forum days and all the tweaking i did to my main system (which remains untouched, it makes great music!). I don't pretend to know all the facts but, I have been trying to keep tabs on who's got what given that they are/were willing to share. That said there were at one time: 32 owners of Jubilee's 14 of them had EV-Dx38 2 had the XTI solution 8 passives 2 EV DC-One 1 Ashley NE8800 1 Yamaha SP 2060 9 had TAD 4002's 3 had Faital HF200 1 Martinelli (Golden Jubilee) 1 BNC 1 EV DH1A Looks like the rest had the stock K69 (this might not be 100% accurate today, it's what the list says) Adding in the JubeScalas, adding in the Jubilee clones (none of which were in the above numbers) and I see more EV's, more XTI's, more passives..... but I've yet to see a single Behringer in the list. (not saying nobody has it.... it was never brought to my attention to update the list) Coytee, Don´t forget me on your list, I built a three way active system based on the DEQX system, a high end electronic crossover with time, phase and room correction. After futzing around for a year I sold all that stuff (drivers, amps, crossover) and stayed with a vintage pre, a PP 2A3 amplifier and my ALK crossovers....I really didn´t find the complication and cost justified the extremely small difference in sound it made in my system, in my room, with my music, yadda, yadda, bing, bang. YMMV. Obviously I am not too convinced about the need to "upgrade" a klipschorn. I totally respect everyone´s search for that perfect sound, that perfect musical reproduction system. But after coming full circle I found mine and it is a klipschorn and some decent electronics...warm regards, Tony

IMHO upgrading should be based on perceived short comings...what don`t you like about your k-horns? what would you like to strengthen? if they are quite olkd you might look into refreshing the caps but otherwise there is no one formula to success here. It really depends on your music, your room, your other equipment, your taste that, as I said, focussing on making them sound right to you should be task #1. somefeddback to the froup about what you would like to accomplish would get you better responses. regards, Tony
