  1. I run digital coax from my CD player primarily, but also have Analog cables. My Mini is HDMI direct to my AVR, but I was thinking it was actually going through the DAC in my AVR since it was HDMI. A full rip doesn't sound bad, but its not quite like the real CD. Maybe its going through the Minis DAC and has all along?

    Fine Cutlery

The problem with high dollar manufactured Kitchen knives is that no one wants to tend to them these days, so they call 440 steel with a tad of carbon "High carbon stainless" which is a marketing ploy. They do this so you can put them in a dishwasher and only get a speck or two of rust even though they act like, "don't dare do this!". A truly high content carbon blade needs to be cleaned, dried and lightly oiled (with cooking oil of course) after every use. The very high carbon content offers the sharpest edge, but the quicker the corrosion will start. The best kitchen knives I own are custom ground and cut from old crosscut saw blades, Im sure folks here have some. They don't make good pocket knives from all the maintenance, but it doesn't matter for the kitchen and you don't need 15 of these. 2-3 good kitchen knives and you can throw that littered chopping block away. However, you don't put these in the dishwasher or your edge will be gone and you will have a totally rusted blade. They're not for everyone, but if you cut a lot, especially meat and veggies, they will make a believer out of you AND you don't need a serrated blade shredding your meat as they are viciously sharp and will go through a light density loaf of bread like butter and without tearing.
  3. Im not a DAC genius like a lot of the guys here, but here was my finding with my Mini. The sound signature of a ripped lossless "CD" coming from your Mini will sound different than what a basic CD transport will offer. You may have a high quality DAC to overcome this, but I would compare a ripped full content basic CD to the actual CD playing on a decent player before I started all those LONG big rips. I was going to do all lossless rips, but it was pointless with most of the heavily compressed material being released these days, IMO. After buying a few DVDA's, Blu-Ray Audio's and SACD's, I quit worrying about RedBook offerings as the majority pale in comparison to true lossless and uncompressed LPCM content. I just rip at 256K and if I want to really "hear" it, I pop the hard copy in. I also have a few two channel FLAC files on my Mini, yet they still don't sound as good as what the hard copy produces on my U player. I would also use the digital audio output of the Mini or its HDMI output before I used the USB port.
  4. yeah thread crapping in a for sale add isn't cool with anyone around here. Take your BS elsewhere! getech is a 9 year member hear and doesn't post often, have a little respect reference said it nicely. end of story I understand the frustration too, but we all need to realize that not everyone that is a member here understands forum etiquette and doesn't frequent here enough to pick up on all the do's and dont's. There are tons of direct, smart arse comments spewed by many of the forum Vets here that go glossed over and that are never called out on. BTW, good luck with the sale Jimjimbo.
  5. Maintenance costs? Idiot hooligans with sledge hammers or other forms of vandalism? Kids finding vulnerabilities and hacking? We can't even keep HWY lines painted or shredded tires off the road, much less keeping the reflectors replaced when needed. I guess in Utopia this would be ideal, so to speak. No way our Gub'ment takes on something like this, we can't even be competitive building basic solar panels with total funding behind Uncle Sam. I DO however like the idea a lot and although I would much rather have a personal solar setup on my roof, this idea has legs and may end up branching into other avenues for the times to come.
  6. I agree with Rick. Brace them. Make the cabinet guys fit them as they will be a little different side to side. I think you can order these straight from Volti and last I heard he is moving to Volunteer country, so he may end up just down the road from you.
  7. I guess I'm reckless. I live off of Ebay and Amazon, literally. I don't carry cash unless I need it and I put everything on AM EX to get airline credit. AM EX knows me better than my wife. They know what my favorite Bourbon is, what style of food I eat most of the time, My brands of Clothing and what Cigars I order most frequently. The three times I have been compromised since 1992, they have caught before the transaction has occurred. There will probably be a lot of "phishing" emails going out to people thinking its Ebay wanting to reset their password only to find out that they were directed to a false site and handing it over to a hacker..... FYI, this will be a new group of people that hate Ebay
  8. I have networks (AK-2's) from 1989 Klipschorns. I have the full set including the bass caps. Monster cable still attached to the top half of the X-over with proper length wiring. They also have female ends so they would be plug and play for the mid and tweeter. Anyone interested before I put them on Ebay? Send me a PM please. Will post photos this evening. Thanks
  9. Yes it is. Its basically tone map mods and a couple of other tid bits from Photoshop. You can also use Light room or other programs to pull this off. Its really easy and a lot of fun with what you can do with some shots. You can make pics look like delicate water color paintings. This one is the opposite though, I really muddied it up and kind of made a mess of it. It does however preserve the anonymity of your subjects I asked because usually when I have two pics the same I play with one. I only have Photoshop 11 and have tried a few things but never had results like that. Cool avatar, I laugh every time I see it. Holy Smokes. You need to look at youtube tricks on photoshop. A couple of drinks and an hour, you won't believe all the cool stuff you can learn! Thx on the Avatar. Wish I was the handsome devil in it

  11. Well done! He's Ivy League bound.
  12. I have always been more inclined on a speaker improvement instead of equipment, although yor could put speakers in the equipment category. I have never been addicted to separates or tubes or anything like that. A decent AVR at 1 or 2 watts has always been good enough for me. I can say that I have become a little OCD on tracking down lossless DVDA's, SACD's and Blu Ray audio disks. These things are affordable which means more really good music that makes everything else sound like crap.
  13. Jeans suck these days. Unless you stick with Levis or Wrangler, none of them fit. It seems like they are all cut different with that low waist fit that cuts your manhood in two. you cant bend over without your shirt coming untucked or revealing your plumbers knowledge. This is fine and dandy for the opposite sex, but sucks unless you have a 32 inch waist and a build like a Crack smoker or Ralph Lauren model.
  14. Yeah, just remember to keep that Bacon strip out back
  15. So is this a "plug and play" error. I mean is it just connecting wires to the X-over and then screwing them to the inside of the cab? No soldering?
  16. My glass is usually half empty, but I would steer clear of selling, building, wiring or anything with any entity other than just (helping) personal friends. There is no easy paycheck out there even if you love what you do. Besides, there is a big grey area when it comes to dealing with wishy washy people and what they "think" they want at that given minute. Heck, just build a pre-sold house or two and you will get a very good idea of how many times people can change their mind. On top of that, there would be people that would be anti-horn and you would have to set up crap systems that they either did or didn't like and all along you would hate the sound and setup..yada, yada. No way, Im gonna try and screw up my last passionate hobby on making an extra buck !
  17. The black set is newer and probably late 80's to early 90's. I don't mind the green set, but stripping the blue paint off the mid horns or having them sandblasted might be a mess. On the other hand I would check for cabinet separation on the black set....looks like they have been around the block a time or two.

    What I Got Today!

Wow, 14.... I'll bet there's room for me someday.... I'm a great guest... Well the second fan was delivered so between rain storms I took a pic before putting it up, the music is playing already, just waiting for everyone to show up, or music to put a fan up by either way. Wow, party at Dtels !
  19. I wonder if he would throw in that purple paisley textured velour shirt in on the deal?
  20. Personally I would go with the black versions with the AL-3's. You're going to have to paint anyway, so might as well get the 55m and the 401 horn. Unless they have been wet or have badly damaged cabs. AL-3 caps are cheap for both sides too.
  21. Indeed, that thing will definitely close a cracked door. Wish I was closer, but geez, like I need 2. Awesome price to boot, it wont last long

  23. Sorry, but thats BS. This is an error you would expect from a car dealer and lets not sugar coat this situation or anyone could expect it again. A thousand pounds of speaker being shipped deserve a second look at the order, its not like they're shipping out a single driver or something. It seems someone "inside" would have already read this thread and have stepped up now and said, "our bad, we're sorry, please accept this box of Klipsch swag," or at least something. I tried to buy updated K-horn X-overs direct through the Hope plant as I have gone to them for parts since the 80's and early 90's. They then directed me to the "Indy" headquarters. I had two conversations with the same fellow that knew exactly what i needed for the top and bottom. He took my number and email addy and said he would contact me with prices and and email a doc. showing what would be sent out, but it would take him 2-3 days. No call backs and no email. That crap wouldn't have happened 20 years ago. These days you have to take people by the hand, treat them like a 3 year old and be half a prik to make sure things get done correctly. Then they act like you are the jerk even though they can't carry the ball without dropping it. Its just the sign of the times these days
