I was stupid enough to click on this nonsense.
fuzzydog replied to jason str's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
I listened to a pair once at Best Buy magnolia. Music sounded like it was coming from under water. Sounds like heavy digital compression to me. Sad that a Magnolia would demo speakers that way. You never know how the Magnolia goons have them set up. I don't think it's really possible to demo speakers in a setting like that. -

I thought the same thing. Sad really.

SMPS isn't new technology, it's just cheaper and lighter weight than a big toroidal transformer.

It will be interesting to see how well their new SMPS power supply will be received. It looks like a mistake to me. http://emotiva.com/products/amplifiers/xpa-gen3

So what was Part II of the agreement? I hope you got something good in return!

Always wanted to try that stuff--i’ve heard it is fabulous. Is it? I'll be waiting for just the right occasion to break the seal. This is the first time I've had an opportunity to purchase a bottle.

Whatever song it is, make sure that it doesn't suffer from dynamic range compression. If you put in some new stuff, you'll think your speakers sound like crap, but you're actually hearing a poorly mastered recording through your new high resolution speakers.

I'm guessing it's a Gen1 based on the time remaining under warranty?

Adding a subwoofer will make them sound fuller and better balanced, IMO. Congratulations on the new speakers.

M1HPA, Marantz sr8002, and B&k 6 channel amp prices reduced again
fuzzydog replied to hcnelly's topic in Garage Sale
Nice gear. What model is the multi-channel amp? -
Am I the only one who can't see the pictures?

What other amps have you considered in planning for your room? if you are interested in reducing cost, there may be other options that would achieve the same result at a lower price point. Outlaw and Emotiva come to mind.I've thought about Emotiva for cost. The look of Halo is what's got me hooked. No amps have been purchased yet, I may still change my mind, Emotiva is so much cheaper!! The reason I originally steered clear is I read the Gain or some input spec of theirs didn't play nice with Marantz & caused hiss. I don't know if that's true or not though. The Outlaw (ATI) amps have lower gain than Emotiva. Might be worth a look. I think the original Emotiva XPA Gen 1 amps had 31 db gain while the Gen 2 have 29 db. The Outlaw 7125 has just 28 db gain.

Love the inverted dust cap. I wonder if they could withstand a toddler...

Ditto...hoppy versions of brown ales are so bad they should carry warning labels.

I own RF-7ii's and RB-81ii's; I can tell you that the 81's can hold their own against the 7's at normal listening levels. They're no slouch.

I ran a Cabernet cable in wall to my projector. It has a nice thick jacket. Works good.

2.5-way crossover tapered-array technology
fuzzydog replied to moray james's topic in Technical/Restorations
I'd read somewhere that it was only needed on the center channels to mitigate the lobing effect of a MTM speaker mounted horizontally. -
They were selling this for $180 last week.
-
So does this mean the user name "Pete H" is available?
-
They've been listed on CL for many months already.
