  1. Very sad occurrence. And especially sad as this is close to home. I had to read this on the air, and lost composure midway. And in this size community, everyone tends to be closer knit. Tragedy hits especially hard.
  2. I want modern sound, I buy modern amplifiers. Leave classic audio alone and maintain it, don't gut it or mod it, if you want different sound. get different gear and sell your existing off or trade your old. This kind of modification devalues gear forever unless it can be undone. Nothing wrong if you want modern or different.
  3. I wish I could have been there. Had to have been awesome.
  4. I think PWK would have loved Moonshine as the official drink. It fit his spirit and way of life.
  5. Frank Sinatra is essential. And meant to be heard on vinyl. I recommend his finest albums from Capitol and Reprise for those who love fine singing of fine songs.
  6. Mallette, it would be heavenly to hear one of your fine recordings on open reel on 1/2 track. I love your work. You do excellent recordings, and your minimalist miking is superb.
  7. 50 quality, low damped SS watts is all you need. A McIntosh MA 5100 or MC 2505 is all you need unless your aim is hearing impairment.
  8. If you do not wish tubes. I recommend low damping factor early transistor amplifiers. 40-50 watts/channel clean is plenty. McIntosh MA 5100 or MC 2505 all you really need. Sansui 4000 in good order also excellent with Klipschorns.
  9. 50 watts/channel, low damping factor, and few/no IC and discrete transistor good alternative to tubes. McIntosh's MA 5100 and MA 6100 integrateds are superb, the MA 5100 a favorite. The MC 2505 power amp is a great choice or an MC 250 with a good preamplifier or preamplifier/tuner. The MX 114 is a superb McIntosh mate.
  10. Just don't take your guitar on United, they break guitars. And wheelchairs too.
  11. Happy Birthday, rivervalleymgb. May the fun and celebration be corner loaded and awesome. And the music and chow the finest. And pwk's best serving up the music.
  12. Acer is decent for a cheapie laptop. But they are on the frail side. You want well built, I recommend business class laptops over everything else but mil spec ruggedized. I see far fewer business class machines with repair issues than I do consumer class laptops, Apple included.
  13. I have a better idea. How about making a domestic brand car, that is basic and reliable first. And can outlast the payment book and sensibly built and designed. And that folks can afford. Automatic and air, crank windows, simple to maintain. And an automatic transmission as fine as the oldies.
  14. The record changer you have is the GE Trimline. It is technically a Glaser-Steers with fewer features as GE purchased the company. Replacement cartridges, styli, and rebuilt idler wheels and motor mounts available from Gary Stork at V-M Audio Enthusiasts in Michigan. Website is www.thevoiceofmusic.com.
  15. I like this idea. Very nice building for recording studio/moonshine still/living quarters. A great space with heritage and tradition. Pure Americana.
  16. GE amps of the era sometimes had funky impedances. Also, putting a better amp inside will be a major issue due to ventilation. And it would be better to rebuild the console as is, it is decent. Parts not the easiest to find.
  17. Happy Birthday to PWK. Fortunate enough to have met PWK twice. And when young, he never talked down to me and was a great teacher of many things audio and life itself. An amazing man, PWK was. He'll never be forgotten. Salute!!!!!
  18. I can have frustrating days where I move with no elegance. But when I come home tired, nap some, stretch tired muscles, enjoy this forum with fine food and music, all my frustrations go away. What does not kill preemie little ones, makes them stronger. So called experts who told me what I could not achieve in life, made me work harder to get it done (not always the method they had in mind). I wrote everything so called experts said I could not do, it was my roadmap to life and living. And I still dare to try new things, PWK did to the end (the reason why we are here to begin with). He told me when special ed wanted to deny me of normal education and send me off to worse, "It's not right, BullShit!, Go after that administrator and his executives with both barrels. Make 'em think. Enlist what you need for battle and let everyone know what is being done to trample on your rights", "Klipsch & Associates will assist you on the legal front, he handed me a BullShit T Shirt". I wore it to every meeting relevant, I recorded them all. My employer and the company attorneys and the media took care of the naysayers. Many an Oak Ridger took a day off from work to defend and support me, the local audio emporium put up petitions. And so did the radio station I engineered for. And radio and TV, a bunch of Oak Ridge scientists, engineers, and support crew amplified my cries for normalcy. Oak Ridge city schools were prepared for me some two years before it happened. I got my wishes after shouting down everything they said would get in my way. The administrator of the special ed school got served with legal papers from the Department of Education for violating many a law. I used resource room minimally. Oak Ridge High School gradually got behind me. 3 years later, 3.3 GPA and I graduated. The record shows, I took the blows, and did it MY WAY! From there, I developed even more of who I am. I even took up adaptive climbing at 50 years. I will try new things every chance I get. In honor of PWK, and because I can. It is there. My own motto is NO LIMITS. Can't is not in my vocabulary, it sure was not in Paul Wilbur Klipsch's vocabulary either.
  19. This thread has been really fun to read. I am interested in all Klipschorn history. Thanks for a superb thread.
  20. Very Saddened to hear this news. My heart is extended to you and your family. Prayers and thoughts your way.
  21. Yes, Fisher 500c is ideal with Klipsch Heritage or Extended Heritage line speakers. Fisher 500 C and Klipsch Heresy= a match made in heaven. +1,000,000 times over.
  22. Simple. McIntosh MAC 1700 or MAC 1900. Sansui 3000a or 4000 excellent for SS choices. For tube choices, HH Scott or Fisher. Marantz Model 18 or Model 19 also good options. Low damping factor best. Few to no IC and simpler circuitry best. 30-45 WPC best.
  23. Very well put. And for me add to that being pitch sensitive, and a lack of tolerance for distortion being reasons why I despise gyms for workouts. I value my hearing. And also most aerobics and fitness instructors likely can't hear above 10Khz to boot.
  24. Indeed, one of the last living early audio pioneers passed away. And a great watchmaker, audio designer, opera singer, and cartridge, tonearm, and headphone designer, John is a most worthwhile successor. Condolences to the Grado family, Joe was very friendly and a wonderful human being who has done much for enhancing our musical and cultural lives and made music sound better.
  25. Command LP discs are superb in popular and classical. Many great easy listening LP discs go for little money, some of the RCA Living Strings/Living Marimbas/Living Guitars albums are superb and go cheap. Liberty's Premier LP series with Felix Slatkin and Tommy Garrett's 50 Guitars are recommended. Lots of great classical LP discs in superb condition get dumped en mass for free or cheap. Many a fine DGG, Philips, Erato, Telefunken, and more goes for near nothing. Kapp made many fine records in the 1960's with Jack Jones, Roger Williams and many more. Just to name some fine and unsung bargains. Opening your mind and horizons gains you musical pleasure of a bygone, kinder, gentler era.
