  1. Ahhh... "start new topic" at top right! Not "create new stream" under activity... Can't see the forest for the trees most days. Lucky these things don't have teeth.
  2. It was an eventuality, like marriage, and kids. In that order. Experience and fate leading to another fantastic life experience. OK, maybe not the marriage bit... LOL! I have been a Klipsch fan for decades. It started with a pair of Heresy's, then Tangent 500's, RB-61's, RF-3's, Heresy 2's, Quartet's, Forte ii's, Corwall 1's, Cornwall 2's, and CF-3's. Today it jumped a valence. I was afforded the opportunity to bring home a pair of 1992 LaScala's. At close to twice the price of the next dearest pair of Klipsch I've ever bought it was a calculated leap. I heard a pair of Belle's at the house of the gentleman I bought my first pair of Forte ii's from. He was listening to them when I arrived to audition the Forte ii's. He had both pairs for sale but I could not afford the Belle's and had heard great things (on here!) about the Forte ii's I had come to buy. When he switched to "my" Forte ii's it was as if the life got sucked out of the music. But I brought the Forte ii's home, switched out the (non-Klipsch) speakers I had and was blown away by the clarity. I also got up to turn the bass down only to find it was at defeat. My take on it was a basement was no place for Forte ii's. Still , I never doubted what I heard from the Belle's. That experience never left me. After years of trying to recreate it with various incarnations of NON HORN LOADED woofer designs time had run out. The closest I have come is from dual woofer cabinet's like the CF-3's. I had "heard/read" so many negatives about the Lascala's bass dropping off at 45 hz. But I also remembered my Heresy 2's sounding punchy with a higher cut-off. MANY on this forum have stated a preference for their LaScala's and after years of reading their comments HERE, I felt re-assured enough to take the leap. I now know firsthand, without a doubt, what all the hype is about! I now know why people sell their Cornwall's, as incredible as that may seem! This un-moddified pair of '92 LaScala's blows everything I have out of the room! Tractrix horns, titanium diaphragms, and the lower frequency response of the other's notwithstanding, these LaScala's are at least as revealing and punch HARDER, at all volumes. What little bass that is missing is not what drives the music that inspires me. I had accidentally switched my amp to bridge today when I re-wired it for these (no banana plugs!) so initially only one speaker was working and even at that the soundstage nearly filled my modest livingroom! I had to put my ear right up to the "dead" LaScala to confirm it! The presence is that big. My Cornscala's are now serving as "Atmos" speakers. LOL! Hearing IS believing!
  3. ...anybody try posting a new thread yet? My limited ability prevents me from expressing myself indepently... ...help... ...me... ...I'm drown-ing...
  4. Garyrc, I stand corrected! What a difference a few days and fate can make. I get paid weekly, but budget monthly and this is a five payday month! A little overtime and modest utilty bills in the summer has afforded me the opportunity to dive into the realm of folded horn woofers! I brought home a pair of '92 LaScala's today and simply put - I am blown away by the bass! And that's not the least of it! They "may" not go as low as my Cornscala's (they sound REAL close after equalization), but they hit HARD! I am astonished by the clarity and PUNCH of these LaScala's in my modest system. I do not find the stock AL-3 crossovers and K401's harsh in the slightest. And the K-77's shine in this pair. I went A/B, side to side, four speakers abreast, with my "Cornscala's" and "Chorwall 2's" and they PALED in comparison! They are as revealing, if not more than my Forte II's, but have a presence substantially larger than my modded Cornwall 2's with the tractrix K603 midrange horns, K-107-ti tweeters, and new crossovers. In fact, I am using my Cornscala's for "Atmos" duty now... LOL!
  5. Cool, you got the changeover of labels!
  6. You have the beginning of a powerful and rewarding addiction! Welcome to the forum!
  7. These wrecks are essentially graveyards. Sacred and honoured. The notion of them being disturbed without due consideration is troubling. It is nothing short of grave-robbing. God bless their souls.
  8. I sold my CLSC-215's shortly after buying my FIRST pair of Cornwall's (84's with the B-3 crossover). I had AT-12's (four of them), HED103's, D-3's and D-5's prior to the CLSC-215's. I also had a pair of HP-215's (2-way dual 15") in the other corners with the CLSC-215's. It was overkill in a 12 x 20 livingroom, but it had to be done. 300 watts RMS to each front and 150 watts to each back! The bass was without question lower with the CLSC 215's, but the midrange was UNBEARABLE after hearing the Cornwall's. No subwoofer was required and that is why I bought them. In phase bass from the same motorboard as the rest of the audio spectrum hits hard. For several months after I bought the CV's I wondered why my kids always opened all the doors on EVERY cabinet in the main floor washroom... It was the BASS from a spirited listening session! The Cornwall's will do the same thing, ... I just don't blame the kids anymore. I fully believe if Klipsch made a dual 15 inch "Chorus III" it would set the record straight. I have yet to hear ANY single woofer speaker that hits like the dual configuration.
  9. The first pair of Cornwall's to change my life were '84's with the B-3 crossover, square magnet k33, k-57/k601 and square magnet k-77's. They were black though... so when a pair of walnut '79's came up I grabbed 'em. The '79's had the B crossover, k-55/metal k600horns and round magnet k-77's. They didn't stay long after a pair of walnut '86 Cornwall 2's fell into my life. Compared to the '84's, I found the '79's noticeably less fun to listen to. Had I not first heard the '84's I would have likely kept the '79's though. And eventually Fastrac'd them... sigh!

    KPT-456 Klipsch

First I have heard of these! They just made the short list. Any idea what the specs are for these rock and roll monsters? Thanks for sharing this posting.

    cornscala's

The 2-way Cornscala will pretty much make you wonder what the hell you were listening to all these years! I paid more than that to turn an old black pair of Cornwall's into Cornscala's. Those ones for sale look to be time-aligned too!
  12. That is a buy it and try it price! And all oak! If you don't like them (I would be surprised...) you should be able to get your money back on resale. If you broke up the package maybe more! I think Quartets best any of the Heresy's you might find for the same price and the original Heresy was what got me hooked on Klipsch decades ago. I only sold my Quartets after I bought my first pair of Cornwall's. And they were the last of all my other Klipsch to go! Quartets put a lot in a little package.
  13. Holy cow! I am too late! I have fallen out the loop. What YouTube video on how to become a millionaire did I miss?
  14. Caveat emptor or what!? There isn't even an "or best offer" option on this one! Hmmmm... if you will excuse me, I think I will list my Forte ii's on ebay for 2 grand...
  15. Never heard of them! Lol. Technics made some very respectable stuff over the years. Their "Flat Series" was definitely among them. Tons of info on the interweb. VintageTechnics.somethingoranother used to have a very comprehensive collection. Like all vintage gear, a complete capacitor refresh will be an eventuality. Lights burn out. Pots and switches need de-oxit. For a song and 300 bucks a unit to refresh you will have some solid gear. Some of the specs on this analogue stuff is hard to beat.
  16. That is a good question regarding the woofer surrounds. I have been meaning to ask if there is a way of preserving them for some time now. I have PURE silicone paste to maintain airgun seals and was thinking that would work, but I don't dare apply ANYTHING until the verdict is in. And congratulations on finding the closest thing to a "one size fits all" speaker. Aren't Forte II's also the Klipsch speaker with the lowest specified frequency response?
  17. Has anyone heard and compared "The Fifteens" to a 2-way "Cornscala"?
  18. This is an incredible effort. Thanks for a little, correction, A LOT of the stuff that dreams are made of!
  19. Ok, so this topic got my heart beating! As fate would have it I picked up Supertramp's "Breakfast In America" on CD in my travels today at one of the thrift stores on the way home. A great CD for a demo! I run a two channel setup (NAD C372 @ 120 watts a side) in my 12 x 20 living room, no subs, and the current placeholders are my modded Cornwall 2's (K604 tractrix mids with new phenolic diaphragms, K-107-ti tweeters, Bob Crites CW2 crossovers and bandpass filters). They were my last mod and have been making me smile for several weeks now. I have Forte II's, Cornwall 1's (with the K604 tractrix instead of the exponential K601), Cornwall 2's (once again with the K604's AND K-107-ti), Epic CF-3's, and 2-way Cornscala's (formerly CW1's) with the, you have to hear it to believe it, K510 using Bob's Faital Pro HF200 and his CS500 crossovers. Everything plays through the same moddest DBX 1231 "house curve." Tonight I rotated each pair of speakers through in the above order. Having not listened to any tunes since the weekend, the Forte II's started the evening more than adequately. If I had never heard any of the other speakers, I would be quite happy with them in my living room. The Forte II's image very well. Bass is deep and detailed. The modded Cornwall 2's bring enough to the table to handily trump the Forte II's. Toed in, they image well. The 15" K-33's make all the difference to me. They just plain sound bigger. The CF-3's sound is tighter than the Cornwall 2's, not noticeably lower, and image better in the sweet spot. I still can't decide which I prefer here compared to the modded CW2's. CF-3's are not small speakers! The 2-way Cornscala's were last and I haven't heard them for months. They are no contest winners. The bass is lower and easily as detailed as any of the others. Noticeably more presence in the low end. The K510's reach out and pull your ears into them. I forgot how much of a game changer that horn is. Toed in large in my small living room, the soundstage fills the small wall. The attack and decay of instruments and vocals adds depth lacking in the smaller throated horns. I still think two 15's and a K510 would fit in a cabinet not much bigger than a CF-4! Call it a KLF 50!
  20. Cornwall IV or Chorus III, either/or, TWO 15" woofers and a K510 in the same (beautiful wood veneered) cabinet would set the record straight! Maybe a two piece grille, one covering the woofers and one for that big beautiful horn! Bi-wireable of course. Picture a taller skinnier LaScala II. The high frequencies would be at the right level too! I have yet to hear a single woofer speaker deliver the punch that only TWO woofers can deliver. These would be CerwinVega killers. I can't see anything holding a candle to them - literally - that flame would be blown out! And the clarity and definition would make a musicians jaw drop! I had CLSC 215's prior to my first pair of Cornwall's, and soon after CW2's. I sold the Vega's with no regrets. I could accept a little less bass from my Cornwall 2's, but I could not listen to the CV's after hearing the definition the Klipsch's give effortlessly. Nothing against all the other recent additions to the Klipsch line-up, but once agian, "there is no replacement for displacement!"
  21. Ok, the work week has started and my heart is troubled by the actions of SOME of the humans I interact with. This has reminded me of another quote that bears mention: "All it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing."
  22. The "Chorus III" belongs in a whole new topic! It deserves it. Go!
  23. To the original poster. If you stop reading this forum (and others like it!) RIGHT now, you will live a happy and contented life. But since you are only human, God bless you on your fantastic journey!
  24. Ignorance is usually a result of "contempt prior to investigation". Life's experiences so far haven't provided me the perspective to see things as a chance to learn or share, but as a threat to the ego. I get it, it is an old habit of mine that won't die. And ignorance is far from bliss now. It requires an incredible expenditure of energy (all negative) for me to rationalize the dischord between my heart and mind. A reminder that thin skin and a thick head isn't an excuse for an opinion. ...what was it that Clint Eastwoods character Dirty Harry had to say about opinions...? I have been in suspense since a sage old man shared this quote with me years ago..."A smart man knows what to say, a wise man knows whether or not to say it."
  25. I love my Cornwall's...ALL of them. And the B-3 crossover hasn't made me want for more. Yours look to be walnut! Beautiful. But inquiring minds want to know. What are you replacing them with? And good luck with your sale.
