Light snow overnight for a white Christmas and +3C... Merry Christmas everyone!

Apparently everyone in Canada was there too, getting groceries. Tried to order in food, 3 places were so busy they couldn’t answer the phone... got some take out but it was close call!

I shop all year long... Christmas, b-day and anniversary gifts. I’m not getting sent to the dog house.

@Maximus89, how did the Essence Evolve + HDMI switch work... thinking of doing the same.

I have not heard either but both sets are highly regarded... here’s a link to a discussion you might like ... It depends on the updates and original state the speakers were/are in. You already have a very good setup.

People with CF-4 don’t sell them! They are that good.

I don’t recall if it was here, US Audio Mart and or Audiogon where some were posted. I’m in BC. Last set sold in Canada Audio Mart was 18 months ago.

@ShelbyGT350 welcome to the forum and I hope my wife’s reading your post! Check the Garage Sale section. Also check US Audio Mart online sales. There have been 2 sets of CF-4 in/near Seattle recently. Good Luck. Also, general search engine hifishark.com can be a good resource, it checks a lot of for sale boards, you can search it for active listings.

To my uneducated college football mind, Alabama is running the same passing game, and a less capable running game. Teams should have figured out how to deal with that passing game by now... press man and really good tackling. Not sure Bryce Young is NFL size for a QB and throwing motion looks too long in the wind up. But, the Tide keeps rolling.

My R-117 is back after a long visit, but thorough update... running my Heresy (modified) with it... still my favourite over... 2 different Denon AVR, Parasound A23, Akai AM-2850(close call on this one) and cheap chip amps. Love the Luxman so much I purchased a second one and will be looking for a third to run all my HT.

@Dave A, sorry to hear that... I haven’t used Canada post lately but they were good to me including I think when I bought from you! Can be dicey going across the boarder at best of time. There are some forum members in TO area too... pony express?

@ssh, there are 2 used K2 on Canada Audio Mart in Toronto. No affiliation, buyer beware etc. I think there were some other Crown amps recently too if you can get them across the boarder? Good luck.

@Steve(412)... I used a Parasound A23 (not the +) model in a 2 channel setup in my small reading room and it was great. To my ears very detailed and maybe just a bit clinical, not warm. I also used the same amp for L/R in a HT setup when I replaced it with an Akai AM-2850 for the music/reading room setup. I'm more of a "vintage" sound person so take my comments with a grain of age (I'm 67). I also owned an Outlaw 5000. A good HT amp but again, not the "vintage" sound I like. It was a solid performer and a real bargain for 5 channels of good sound. Sold it fairly quickly. Of the two, I'd take the Parasound. I sold the Parasound (and the Akai) to help fund a Luxman R-117 receiver.

@YK Thom, not many here would say -20 is mild, except Canadians and any friends from Alaska? Atmospheric River is dumping a lot of rain on Victoria today... very sad for folks in Fraser valley massive flooding.

Both Seagate and Western Digital are good hard drives. SSD drives would be about 4 times the cost.

The Lux f-114 looks interesting... I have a very similar setup... 2 x R-117, 1 x Oppo 103. I don’t do much multichannel audio... mostly stereo via external Dac or TT to one R-117. Have been looking for a nice piece to integrate for rear surround sound. I could just buy another Lux R-11x receiver... just missed a very good deal on a third R-117, dang.

Way way beyond my pay grade but agree with @Coytee those are unique, bi-amp in a mono block with tubes and SS!

Nice to see a happy ending in these difficult times when customer service seems to have slipped a bit.

@avguytx I used the Dacmagic Plus including their BT receiver... as you said, leave it in fixed volume mode. Very flexible inputs, I’ve used them all. I like it’s sound too. Only reason I would sell it would be to go to an Oppo 105 to have more integration in my setup.

@CoryGillmore, what about a vintage receiver... Luxman R-117(5,4 or 3) or HK 9/730 ... input to CD line in... set volume to match Onkyo ... use vintage amp’s tone controls... then use Onkyo to manage volume? Either Luxman or HK will give you good sound for stereo music.

Thanks to all forum friends, in these still trying times it is good to visit here and see what everyone is up to on many fronts. Here in Victoria we did our dinner last night, all the usuals for food and some very nice sparkling wine from local winery. Today we built a rose planter (twin to one built in early summer), cleaned out the garage (first time our truck has been inside in 6 months)! It was near perfect weather outside! And yes we celebrate US Thanksgiving too... I can see San Juan island and Mt Baker across the water... so why not? oh, and The Patriots won yesterday so all is as it should be in the universe. Cat calls may now begin.
