  1. I had a pair of Shahinian speakers that had casters. People swore they sounded better on the casters. Never tried them without.
  2. I have decided no more sales of heavy items over internet. Been burned by either dishonest or stupid people. With eBay, Audiogon, and Paypal the buyer is the king. I paid shipping, bought some unneeded drivers, shipped drivers, and lost my speakers last year. Done. One item I have picked up on. If they email with a problem 15 minutes after delivery you have been had. Usually there is a crook on the other end.
  3. Excellent! What is your mid range driver?
  4. I think not. But many find other parts make improvements. One item I like is non-magnetic parts. Connectors, resistors, and capacitor leads.
  5. Could the base extend front and back? Maybe reversible.
  6. In my La Scala the tweeter would need to be slide back about 20 inches to have it the same distance as the K-55X compression driver. The crossover should add some electrical delay due to phase shift. This would help with alignment a little.
  7. BTW, post some before and after in a new thread.
  8. Solid state amps do not all react the same way to being overdriven. The recovery time and stability can be optimized. Fast settling time can be a design goal. I doubt if most horns see a clipping amplifier. 1 watt is loud enough.
  9. I remember when PS Audio stood for Paul and Stan. Stan Warren left to start Superphon in Eugene OR. Stan made much better products than Paul. But like many smart designers, Stan was a terrible business manager. Paul obviously is a pretty savvy business manager. Not sure Stan is still around. He moved to his home on the “mountain”. Been hard to find for a decade or more. Owned several Superphon products in the 80’s and 90’s. Never bought into PS Audio after Stan left.
  10. Bob, The length looks same. The height looks different. I measure the bolt hole spacing at 6 1/4 long and 1 7/8 high for the K-77D. Is that the same as the K-77F with Z brackets?
  11. Some fine sandpaper and a palm sander should freshen the looks. Once back natural and smooth a clear polyurethane finish should prevent the wood from turning dark. For long term finish protection a coat or two of spar vanish should help prevent discolorization. There is clear spar varnish in gloss, semi gloss, and no gloss finish. This is perfect.
  12. Too bad it did not work out. Suspect there was a hum that was grounding related. Flipping polarity on 2 prong plugs, using a cheater on 3 pin, running a grounding wire also. I developed hum one time that putting a cheater on the computer monitor eliminated. Hum is tricky.
  13. The tinned bare wire is what the factory connection is from the top to the bass bin in my LS ii. The is also how the Canare Star Quad speaker wires are hooked up on both ends. Glad we find can be open minded. Spade lugs and Speak On will be next.
  14. My guess of weight is way off. After humping the bass bins up a flight of stairs the tops felt very light. This is a pair of LS ii 70ths. bass bin 119.1 pounds top hat 62.7 pounds Total is 181.7 pounds for the pair. This was using a very accurate scale. Better, if you can tote both top hats you are ready for the the bass bins.
  15. I heard this in my LS ii 70th. But it was not output dependent. Played around with several items and it was digital front end related. At least that is how I got rid of the edge.
  16. Well a very nice item was in the mailbox when I came home. The two unstained walnut K-77 horn lens. Slopped a coat of Howard Feed-N-Wax on one. Big, big shout out to Dave! Now I need to slop the other and install.
  17. I use a similar setup. The LzS ii manage the dynamic range well.
  18. I use Speak-On too. But some things like my new La Scala ii are not getting butchered to unstall. I try to use 16 ga wire and tin it and install in the holes on E.F. Johnson 5 - ways. These are the unplated type. Solder wire to the rear. I going LOM, Lazy Old Man, crimp some quality spade lug connectors on the wire and crank down the 5 ways. I do not solder and crimp anymore. I found old USA made lugs and use them. Better metallurgy. Gave up on bananas long time ago. Too much mass. Next time I build an amplifier and chassis it is getting Speak On for the loudspeaker connection. I am using them to connect the two power transformers to the amplifier now. It is a three chassis amp. Will take a picture. I makes disconnecting the AC much easier, push tab, turn 1/4 revolution and pull out. Beats sticking tinned wire in the holes on the 5-ways and cranking down the nut too.
  19. Sonicaps are fine. Someone has already upgraded the crossovers for you. BEC of Dean can give you tips in getting the most from the speakers.
  20. Good to know. Guess that is some of Roy’s fine tuning. I getting together a list of things to look at when opening mine up.
  21. I sit fairly close to mine due to items on opposite side of he room. All three drivers seem very well integrated at ten feet and ears close to top of cabinet height.
