tuned4life
I have been watching Nakimichi RX 505 Cassette Decks for quite a while. Found the one I wanted and pulled the trigger (eBay Item 180400571051). Like new condition with original box and manual. Cost me 510.00 plus shipping but well worth it. All the bells and whistles. Long Live cassettes.
magnum29
No experience with the Nak, but it rang a bell when I saw your post. These were the Rolls/Bentley of cassette decks. It's been so many years since I've heard a cassette. I did find a vid on Youtube of the auto-reversing function, kind of amazing.: Hope you enjoy yours and good luck
oldtimer
I bought a 480 new and still have it. Also bought a LX-5 and just recently sent it to my son. No other cassette deck sounds as good as a nak. One caveat: tapes recorded on a different deck will not sound as good on a nak, but on the bright side tapes recorded on a nak will sound fine on a different deck. It's hard to imagine owning any other deck brand, although there may be a few exceptions.

Tanino
I have a nakamichi dragon from many years and it magnificently plays always. There is no difference between the nak and a good lp. The 505 is one of the most recent cassette recorder of Nakamichi. Buy it !! Tanino
cmdridq
I had one a long while back, right after they phased out the wedge shaped decks with the mechanical transports. It worked great for about 5 years, when I got rid of it.

LarryC
Nak CR-7A. Outstanding, easily holds its own with other quality sound sources.
Klipsch Employees Trey Cannon Posted September 18, 2009 Klipsch Employees Share Posted September 18, 2009 I sold nak in the mid 80's. Best cassette deck in the world...
Groomlakearea51
Had a CR-1A back in the day.... lasted forever, never a problem, built like a tank, etc. Finally sold it for a TASCAM unit because it has direct phono input to record to CD and cassette. whamo
Doug,I purchased a 480 way back in 81. Couldn't afford a better one but it was a sweet deck. I think the Nakamichi's are the best decks out there. I now have a BX-1 that I never use. How you been lately? I lost your #. Mark
RT FAN
The best tape decks I ever owned, my Dragon is 25+ years old and still going strong.
BigStewMan
I sold nak in the mid 80's. Best cassette deck in the world... I'll second that. got rid of mine years ago; but, it was well worth the money back in the day.
J.4knee
I had a 682ZX I sold to a friend and I have a CR 7A that is in for repair. IMO these are the best cassette decks bar none, TEAC, AKAI, Tandberg none of em can stack up against the old Nakamichi units
tuned4life
Because of the way things are I rarely buy any thing that has to be shipped. As far as eBay audio purchases go, this was right up near the top. I couldn't help but crack a little smile when I saw how flawless it was. I have had some time to play with it. All funtions work perfectly. Need to figure out how exactly to manually adjust the bias.
fastlane
I had sold my CR-2a a few years ago and later regretted it. A few months ago, I found a decent looking CR-2 in a thrift store for $10.99. Scooped it up. Works perfectly! This one I will hang on to. Unless I find a Dragon in a thrift store! Frzninvt
Agreed the Nakamichi tape decks were the best of the best. I did have a Teac R-999X that would easily compare and actually bested most Nak decks from a specification standpoint. I would like to see a Teac R-999X compared 1 on 1 with the Nak DRAGON. I owned an RX-202, RX-505 and the absolutely killer although manual adjustment ZX-9. The DRAGON is still tops and the CR-7A was a stunning unit. The older and huge 1000ZXL were pretty amazing. I got rid of all my cassette decks and home recorded tapes years ago. I also had the automotive version of one of their decks the Nakamichi TD-700 that rivaled the home decks, and when tapes recorded on my RX-505 were played back recorded on TDK MAX-G Metal Frame (best there is) cassettes they sounded better than most CD's. It had a manual azumith adjustment to fine tune the highs. They made a car DRAGON as well the TD-1200 & TD-1200II these decks can be had for killer prices these days with the advent of the crappy digital media like AA3, MP3 files and such.
