picky
Howard Coselll said it best, "Smokin' Joe Fra-sha!" Man, what a boxer he was. Thanks and God Bless, Joe! -Glenn (LINKY)

oscarsear
My dad was a boxing fan. Long before Frazier was a recognized contender we watched one of his bouts on black and white teevee. He dismantled his opponent in less than 45 seconds entirely with body blows. Then he was known as 'Scrap Iron Joe'. It is an ugly sport IMHO. Rick
I enjoyed watching his fights when I was a youngster. RIP Joe Frazier...
mark1101
When I was a kid I was a big Joe frazier and Ali fan. Saw all their big fights. I never saw anyone put Ali on the canvas like Joe did with a single punch. I also remember when Frazier retired and tried to become a lounge singer...........that was pitiful.......couldn't sing at all..........but you had to love it. The guy was hard not to like. Funny as heck. Ali and Frazier always had good things to say about one another after they were done with boxing.
RT FAN
I always like what Ali said about Joe in the "Thrilla in Manila", 'I hit him with shots that would have knocked down walls, and he kept coming.". When asked about the end of that fight when Eddie Futch, Joe's trainer threw in the towel at the end of the 14th round, Ali said he was glad to see it, "because I wasn't sure I could get off the stool." RIP Joe.

jhoak
I can't say that I was ever a big fan of boxing but what I saw and read about Mr. Frazier confirmed to me that he was a "class act". RIP Sir.
BigStewMan
RIP Joe. He was part of the best generation of boxers. Joe, Ali, Foreman...boxing at it's very best.
Islander
Isn't it odd how men who beat up people for a living can be really nice guys? RIP Joe.
Moderators dtel Posted November 9, 2011 Moderators Share Posted November 9, 2011 RIP Smokin Joe Never really kept up with boxing, but it does bring back great memories. I can remember when I was little and sitting with my Dad listening to boxing on the radio, I really didn't care or know what was going on but had a great time. Yes I know, I'm old. BigStewMan
That's true Islander, not all of them but many, and at the height of some of the best music made. i agree with you as well. The sucky part is that bands that we paid top dollar to see in the 70s can now be seen at County Fairs and Indian Casinos for a fraction of the price. About 2003 or 2004, I saw The Guess Who (with Burton Cummings and Randy Bachman) at the Orange County Fair--paid something like seven bucks admission to the fair and the concert was free...and a good show too. Also the next year, Heart and REO Speedwagon. Sadly, now it's mostly country music and they're charging additional fee to see the headliners. I did score some free tickets to see BB King and Walter Trout though. Steve
