What's with all the locking lately?

Just part of the evolving internet guys. Company sponsored forums (as opposed to a forum created by an individual for XYZ topic) are now a marketing tool and as a result must be carefully moderated to protect the image and interests of the company.

maybe some self-censorship, a slight pause before clicking "submit", and a bit of spreading out the snark and combative comments will help reduce the thread locks. Think of this place as a dinner party, where basic social constructs exist to ensure that everyone can have a pleasant evening. To that end, I'm a huge thread crapping offender and I'll work on less snark and useless comments whose sole purpose is to stir the pot.

All the locking? I think I've only locked 2 threads lately. And they were both about the same thing.

That obviously means a ton. duh.

That didn't last long :o:P

Threads get locked when 1) lurkers who aren't invested in this place on any level send complaints to the moderator, 2) when people who are getting their asses kicked have run out of ammo -- and send "Dean is out of control again" emails to the moderator, and 3) the moderator hasn't had enough coffee.

Unless there are personal attacks, I don't see why a thread should be locked. Man, I think we need a place where people can just say what they want without having to worry about being banned or censored.

A warning post prior to locking, by a moderator would be nice. A closing statement on a locked thread from a moderator would be nice as well. At least then we'd know why the thread was locked.

That along with a footrub and a nice cup of hot tea would make it so much easier to accept. My bunions are killing me.
