Pizzed off my first neighbor !

First time i had the cops out for noise complaints was when i had a party at my parents house when i was a teenager cranking dad's old Altec's. Cops just said turn it down so it stayed down until they left then cranked it back up but they never came back luckily.

Probably had 2 dozen or more complaints over the years but never recieved a ticket or fine so i guess i did not learn my lesson, my current neighbors have loud music playing much of the time so i no longer worry about it.

*Edit* I take that statement back, i did get a ticket one time in my 79 Toyota Supra for having my music too loud, had a factory AM/Fm radio and a single dash speaker if i recall, just a d1ckhead Chicago cop with nothing better to do i guess.

Back from the Pub.

Warming up the Amps, will proceed with the ManDoor closed from here on out as well as crank back the Bass adjust, just a tad.

They all have my phone number now, the two neighbors , one of witch was the visitor, saw the guy next door to him so i gave my number to him also.

Asking this guy if he heard my tunes, he stated Yes, but i just live and let live and i know you always turn it down after a few songs :o

I was 15 and we had just gotten new neighbors next door.  That's the first and only time I'd ever had anyone complain at 830.  Apparently some people just don't enjoy good music when it comes knocking like I do.  Then again, I used to get in stereo wars with my brother - and this past year with my neighbors in the apartment next to me on campus.

We have neighbours directly on both sides and when we play a bit louder they know it's not going to be long. They never complain though I'm sure they "notice something" when I play my favorite Kodo tracks.... those tracks make our house shake.

I agree with the statement that you don't really notice playing loud, it does not seem to be loud when it's clean. You do notice however when someone wants to speak with you; they only seem to "mime".

Did upset / amuse a lot of people back in the old days of car-audio though; 2,8Kw amp power on 8 x 15 inch Cerwin Vega woofers in a small [competition] car. Won the European Championship in 1996 with 154.9 Db. [closed doors, measured inside at Iasca standards].

With both doors open and playing test-tones between 20 and 30Hz things started to move in the direct vicinity. At a Mc Donalds drive-thru they said "come on, let's hear it" when waiting for a burger. With one door open and 27Hz at full power the computer controlling the ovens shut down and people ran out for the windows were moving bad and everything was rattling. All car-alarms went off at the parking .The manager luckily was a man with humor and did not call the cops, instead he demanded another demo at the parking with him sitting in the car, like we told him; he was out in a second.

Later converted the wall behind the speakers for 4 x 18 Inch JL woofers, for they played even lower; we had a lot of fun back then.

will proceed with the ManDoor closed from here on ou

What is a ManDoor?  The door to a Mancave?

Naturally, all doors and windows should be closed when playing at high SPLs.

Two minutes at an average of 106 dB is very high, but brief peaks of 106 aren't so bad.  PWK said one needs peaks of 115 dB at one's ears.  The peaks he was referring to were quite brief, like the ones you would find in orchestral music, rather than the sustained peaks found in Rock, electronic, etc.  The movie industry standard for peaks is fs (full scale) 105dB, with 115 dB in the bass, from listening position.  In practice, they often play a bit lower.  THX once measured 108 dB, with 110 dB in the bass.  All of these peaks would happen briefly in loud passages that would be somewhere between 85 and 100 dB on the average during a loud part that would only very rarely last 2 minutes.  The peaks referred to in this post would not be picked up with a meter set at C, "slow."  It would need to be set for C "fast."  If you are getting readings of 106 with the meter set for "slow," for as long as 2 minutes, your ears might be in danger.

Yes common Navy/blueprint talk, sorry. the standard door w/knob. this cave of mine has been fully insulated with R19 including the overhead/roof, we both know that matters not when bass is involved however.

I am testing my theory right now with the door closed, getting a report from the wife every other tune.

My meter is always set to fast, with Max peak enabled.

You can go deaf inside the house

that’s why i listen at high volume … so i can hear it.  I already have “profound” hearing loss in both ears…75% gone on the right side; 50%-60% gone on the left. That was at last years exam…just got a postcard from the specialist saying it’s time for an annual reexam.  Kinda afraid to because i suspect that they’re worse. Even with hearing aids in both ears, i’m generally the worst hearer in the group. HOWEVER, the ear specialist told me that it IS NOT from loud music … tissue growth over some bones in middle/inner ear which reduce the vibration thus only a small amount of sound makes it to the eardrum.

This is an interesting tune you guys may wish to crank up, the household is about to Rock.

Thats funny a friend of mine turned me on to this a few weeks ago  :D

Kind of not really my music, not the kind i would admit to anyway, but i was at a Pub in the outback with a couple farmer bud's and this tune was played, these dam old guys started rockin to it, i then admitted to liking it also.
