fini
I have a nice analog Rat Shack meter, but I'm interested in goin' digital. What do you guys use?
Tom Mobley
It's no fluke that I use Fluke....
mike stehr
Fluke 8050A. I hate that oddball sized fuse however....
Champagne taste beer budget
Fluke again here, though it got retired to home duty when I got the Snap-On Vantage for work. Does graphing, which is nice, but also has vehicle specific testing database built in, overkill for what you need. Check out the 83 or 87 series from Fluke, not as cheap as some others, but not as cheap, either.
dodger
Fluke. But Rat Shack has some digitals, without really high prices. Or you can stop by your local electrical equipment supply store. dodger
artto
Wavetek Meterman. I'm not an "electronics guy" (I can read, but not write so to speak), just wanted something accurate, reliable & flexible without it costing an arm & a leg ($100)
BEC
I have always been fond of Fluke products, but I have just ordered one of these. Don't pay the retail price though. I paid $150.00. http://bkprecision.com/www/np_searchmodel7.asp?lf=50%2C000+Count+Premium+DMM Bob
JJkizak
I used a Fluke at work---beat the hell out of it---and it worked fine. It ran about $280.00 at Grainger or Mcmaster Carr. JJK
Marvel
I still use my Fluke 77 that I got 15 years ago. The B/K models are nice too. Some of the newer ones will work as a freq. counter with reasonable resolution. Get one that is auto ranging. You can put them in manual if you need. 3dzapper
It's no fluke that I am in with the Fluke crowd. I have a nearly twenty year old model 73 that I still use daily. I would recommend looking HERE. there are a couple of good used ones for 1/2 price. Rick
BEC
If you happen to want to measure true RMS up to 20 khz. the number of meters that can do that is really small. Most meters that advertise themselves as being "True RMS" go up to perhaps 500 or 1000 hz. Two that cover the audio range that I know of are the Fluke 87 and the B&K 53xx models. Tom Mobley
Went and looked at my meter, it's a Fluke 175. Handy that it measures capacitance when working on older gear.
fini
OK, I have a lot of lookin' up to do. Would a hand-held be a good idea for a guy like myself?
customsteve01
I use Fluke also. They make hand held models that do everything and just about anything you would need, and having one thats handheld is alot easier to use.
Seadog
I've had a Fluke 77 for 10 years, but just last week I picked up a Rat Shack True RMS meter that also measures capacitance, and has a temperature probe. I paid $15 at the Radio Shack outlet (in Fort Worth), but since it is a closeout item, there may be others at regular stores, I don't really know (it is Cat. No. 22-174B). If you call a Rat Shack in your area they may be able to locate one. I got the very last working unit (opened box, somewhat scratched). If there had been other units, I would have bought them all and offered them here at my cost, but a guy I know beat me to them and got all of the unopened ones to sell on e-bay for $50. fini
Here's an "Extech" at Radio Shack, on sale for $70. Might it be something that would suit me? I have never heard if this brand (hopefully, it's not like Ryobi vs. Porter Cable...). Sears carries several different brands as well. WMcD
I have a Wavetek 27XT. It will measure inductance and capacitance. Very handy when you're trying to figure out the value of an unmarked component. The only downside is that it does not have an analog bar graph. That would be very handy for peaking up a circuit, but otherwise not necessary. It cost just over $100. It is a hand held. Gil
lynnm
I have a Fluke 11 that I picked up at a pawn shop for $35.00. Very nice little handheld.
fini
I found a Fluke 73-III at a pawn shop for $80. Used, no case. I might try to talk them down a bit...
