Ray Garrison
In keeping with the spirit of the "most covered song" topic, I just had a thought... What is the biggest, most played, most bestest, over-the-top hugely successful song (recording?) that you can think of that was never covered by anybody else? Or at least, not too often? Why izzat? What triggered this was thinking about Stairway to Heaven - I heard a Great White cover, like, once, and one other really, really awful one, but not much else... Any others? Marvel
MacArthur Park sure didn't get done by many. It shouldn't have come out in the first place.
IndyKlipschFan
My selection for least covered? BAD - Michael Jackson I think it might be a while till someone covers any of his songs..LOL. Reading the words today, sure does shead some uncomfortable light? I mean, take a look at the opening line in the song!! Your Butt Is Mine Gonna Take You Right Just Show Your Face In Broad Daylight I'm Telling You On How I Feel Gonna Hurt Your Mind Don't Shoot To Kill Come On, Come On, Lay It On Me All Right... I'm Giving You On Count Of Three To Show Your Stuff Or Let It Be . . . I'm Telling You Just Watch Your Mouth I Know Your Game What You're About Well They Say The Sky's The Limit And To Me That's Really True But My Friend You Have Seen Nothing Just Wait 'Til I Get Through . . . Because I'm Bad, I'm Bad- Come On (Bad Bad-Really, Really Bad) You Know I'm Bad, I'm Bad- You Know It (Bad Bad-Really, Really Bad) You Know I'm Bad, I'm Bad- Come On, You Know (Bad Bad-Really, Really Bad) And The Whole World Has To Answer Right Now Just To Tell You Once Again, Who's Bad . . . thebes
"If YOu Want to Be Happy for the Rest of Your Life, Make and Ugly Woman Your Wife" Hughly popular at the time but I've never heard any one do it again.
WMcD
Just when I thought it was safe to click the mouse, this comes up. It is very clever to make the songs most played orginal and also so embarassing that no other artist would stoop to cover it. I'll vote for Guitarzan Mandy Muskrat Love and at the bottom with an anti-bullet They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha, Ha Ugg, Gil
D-MAN
My rule of thumb (having previously worked there) is that if Muzak didn't turn it in to elevator music, it isn't coverable! Can you imagine "101 Strings" doing "Stairway to Heaven"?! DM
Zen Traveler
"Bohemian Rhapsody" and "We are the champions." Who would want to subject themselves to the comparison? That was my first thought...

garymd
Free bird. Although I have no idea if it was ever covered. Not many Led Zeppelin or Moody Blues songs have been covered. How about Aerosmith's, Dream On?
fastlane
When I saw this thread, I immediately thought Milli Vanilli. No one would ever cover one of their songs. Hell, they didn't even sing their own songs.

The original waas done by Texas Singer Songwriter Wllis Alan Ramsey. Its on his one and only LP and if you hear it the context of the rest of this fine recording you will be amazed! ShapeShifter
These three were well known in their day, but I don't recall them being recorded by others. Ray Stevens: Jeremiah Peabody's Poly Unsaturated Quick Dissolving Fast Acting Pleasant Tasting Green and Purple Pills. 1961 "The Streak". 1974 Roger Miller: King Of The Road. 1965

dragonfyr
My guess might be anything by Steve Nicks provided they are dependent upon listening to her version to figure out what the he!! the words are!
thebes
I also don't think anyone has ever done Mitch Ryder's Devil with a Blue Dress on or CC Rider. Other ones you'd think you'd hear would be "John Barleycorn", also Concrete Blonde's "Joey" and "Wendy". However, I am pleased by seeing just how many people have covered various songs by Leonard Cohen and Tom Waits. Great poetry worth hearing other people intepret it. dragonfyr
Thebes, but isn't John Barleycorn by Traffic based on a traditional folk song?
