  1. Biggs was my hero. I've a load of his albums. Depending on the pressing, some of the "French Organ Music" albums have one of the earliest examples of a 32' pipe being present on vinyl. Dave

  2. I have some inexpensive banana plugs like the ones below and after awhile, they tend to get loose. You can take a razor blade and gently bend the prongs out more to tighten the fit. I have some other ones that are locking (like below) that I REALLY like. Once you insert them into the binding post, you twist the base to expand the insert so they are always tight. Here is a diagram of how this type of banana plug expands when you tighten them.

  3. Morning Earl, long time, have not been running the rig much in the last two months, pizzing off a neighbor kind of thake the wind out of your sail. Pizzing off the neighbor who in fact is the neighbor hood wacco (Meds) is quite another. I gave him my number back when he complained, no biggie, however he has been calling me about every week and a half asking me about dogs barking, kid's yelling, and loud thumper cars. Whats next airplanes? Yeah this is a guy you dont want to mess with. (Wacked out Nam Vet on 40+ years of Meds). So urn up the volume and when he comes over say "What music??" You hear music?? There is no music!"

  7. Those are amazing. Never played a pipe organ. This old rock n' roller, country guy would be overwhelmed, but I'd love to hear a classical musician play either or both of those. Thanks for posting. Chuck I remember some E Power Biggs iv got somewhere in my collection, been a long time since iv heard that.

  9. Last night i sat down and listened to some stereo tracks... It was the first time i have listened in Bi-Amp mode vs Audyssey. I have to say i was pleasantly surprised by the sound. The Topping T chip amps appear to be up to the task of driving the horns no problem. I listened at a fairly loud level as well as lower levels to see how they sounded... I noticed that the KPT3002, and the HIPs were noticeably brighter sounding. I actually preferred the horns in Bi-amp mode, and even tried it in direct mode (no Audyssey), and that sounded pretty good too. One track I was listening to had a little bell that is off to the right of the stage and it was projecting it to my right while i was sitting in the 2nd row! Now this would be great if my soundstage was like that for all my music, but it is not to that point yet. Tonally I much prefer the horns to my old La Scalas (which I loved). We will see what we can find out when we run REW... Once we get that far we will know what we need to do to tune the room properly (hopefully).

  10. Part of our service with Invision Power includes the Spam prevention service. Without that, the forums would be ALL SPAM ALL THE TIME. A few are getting through the cracks. When we flag them as spammers, they get banned, all posts deleted, and reported to the spam service, which uses the data to identify trends and help detect more spammers. I've also been banning IPs and in some cases entire blocks of IP addresses. We'll get 'em. We'll always get some that slip through occasionally. This is why we have mods :-) We aren't going to hold new user signups for manual approval. We just don't have the time or manpower. Our money is better spent making great speakers and headphones. ;-)

  14. So I've been working on a light post project for the last couple of weeks. You see I went to the flea market and bought some old street lights for cheap. Finally I have power to them and took this photo using Stevens HDR technique.

  19. " If the speakers are xo at 80 it will be near impossible to blow them. The bass sucks power and at and 80 xo, that will not be a problem." I'll probably cross them over above 80 if the Audyssey setup sets them higher. "The GF also makes some good points" Shhhhh...don't let her hear you say that.

  20. Yes, Bi-Amped is a great way to go, what i really like is the fact you really dont need to run the Amp(s) very hard. My cooling fans are thermo controlled, and they have yet to come on. One time two days into tuning the Active Crossover, i was driving it hard, thought i was finely going to see the fans come, instead, I got my first neighbor complaint.

  22. Honestly the icon series are not made for reference volumes. I'd be careful no matter which speaker you choose. And like mentioned above, best but icon series plus tax equals some times the same or more than buying reference series which are much better speakers from somewhere like acoustic sound design or sound distributors. Not sure how long ago she bought them but maybe they could be returned of you could get a better deal on reference stuff. Like if she payed 750$ for them you can get rf-62ii from acoustic sound design for the same price free shipping. And I've owned both. Reference will trump the icon series. Especially up towards reference volumes. If this may be an option try calling both places I mentioned on the phone to ask what the best prices they will do. It will blow your mind Hands down worst thing about the icon series is the center. You have only one option, and it's just not a very good center compared to the reference centers. And the rc-62ii isn't much more for ALOT more performance. Welcome to the forum also. Sorry for suggesting all this stuff so quickly and "putting down" your new speakers but almost all of us veterans on here have done the same as you and eventually upgrade. Doing that cost a lot so we try to catch new guys and help spend the money much more wisely from the beginning. And also I'd steer clear from Klipsch on a sub unless you get an older rsw series one. Their new ones aren't as good of subs as what else is available out there. Look up a company like Svs, psa, and hsu subwoofers. Read up and ask all the questions you want. We can steer you in the right direction.

  23. Thanks for the kind words. Panels may not pass the WAF unless I make custom ones or buy very decorative ones. Drapes, tapestries, and a larger area rug may just tame my large "live" room. Bill What I did to get panels in the family room. I pulled up the sight and asked her to pic out the colors she would want. Then ordered them .

  26. I'm not sure I feel the same way. Sometimes, a person simply lacks knowledge and once they have received that knowledge, they can make a better informed decision. It seems the OP was asking a genuine question (as was I). I personally don't see myself buying a $500 + player but that's just me and my cheap self. And there are reasons for that (which is what the OP was seeking to find out). I'm not sure I feel the same way. A decent Denon or Marantz REFURB U player starts at $300 at accessories for less. A new, A stock Oppo 103 is just $200 more. Spreading that $200 over the 5-8yrs or so of use, I don't see where the extra dough is wasted. "You're too cheap?" You have a projector in your dedicated HT with a row of LaScalas up front, RF's for rears and a laundry list of good equipment. This is the one thing you are missing man. You need to check out Darbee on an Oppo when used with a projector, it makes a big difference.

  30. Easy fix then....use a razor blade or maybe a super thin screwdriver to gently pry the prongs out a bit until they get snug. Honestly, it's not a great design. I almost threw my set away when Wakejunkie showed me the razor tip.

  31. Thanks! Yes, they are very warm. I installed LED "corn" bulbs in them. The have 165 LEDS per bulb and use 30w of power each. Seems to light up the front of the house and surrounding area just enough to see everything, but not enough for sports like throwing the football.

  38. I'd have to agree with the "Tubes and Horns" quotes, although there are many nice sounding SS amps out there. The biggest dumbass mistake I think I've made is thinking "big speakers, big amp". We all know we have between 99-105db/watt depending on model and year of production of Heritage line speakers, but you'd be amazed at the giant amps hooked up to them. And I'm guilty as charged there, and sure many others here would agree they've made that mistake. I am currently powering a pair of Belles AND LaScalas about as loud as you want to listen to them (or at least as loud as you SHOULD listen to them) with an 18 watt Triode Dynaco ST70 rebuilt by Will Vincent.

  43. Never seen anything like it. Unbeknownst to me, Chad had upgraded our weapons...and just in time. Came in Monday at dark thirty and this stuff was sprouting really fast. One had already put up 29 posts and another 19. I thought it would take FOREVER to track down the posts. However, first order was to get them dead in the water by disabling them. But when I went looking for content it was all gone! Chad gave us the "Death Blossom" if you recall The Last Starfighter. It was a slaughter... Dave

  45. I can't get the Klipsch information site to load right now for some reason, but I'm pretty sure the RF5 and RF7 DO NOT use the same horn. I believe that's the big difference. The RF-7 has the 1.75" where I believe the RF-5 is the 1". I remember hearing the 5, and to my ears it didn't have the sparkle of the 7.

  46. I went to Guitar Center and got some Live Wire RCA to XLRs, and then completely re wired the amps, and miniDSPs. I ended up with some noise still so I relocated my PCs and then used some Cheater plugs... Now it is very quiet. I am very pleased with the way the MiniDSPs worked out as crossovers for my setup. Hopefully in the next few weeks a friend of mine will get some time to help me dial them in with REW. For now i did something that came out nicely but I am sure it is not the correct way to get an active crossover up and running. This is what I did... In the past with the La Scala crossovers as a temporary crossover Audyssey would give me a 150-250hz crossover. I saw on line where someone made a comment that it might be doing that because the Horns were so much more efficient than the 1/4 pie bass bins, so I decided to do a little experiment. First I lowered the gain going to the horns and then ran Audyssey... It moved my crossover closer to the 80hz that I felt it should be at so I continued to play with the levels until I was able to get a 80hz crossover. Once i had it to that point I maxed out my gain going to the 1/4 pies, and then slowly raised the gain on the horns, re ran Audyssey, and repeated until I got to the 80 hz goal. Then I saved it and watched some music videos, and a movie. I must say it def sounded better all around. I am sure that once we run REW it will show a lot of work still needs to be done to get it dialed in, but I believe we are closer than we were with the La Scala crossovers.
