  1. Morning Earl, long time, have not been running the rig much in the last two months, pizzing off a neighbor kind of thake the wind out of your sail. Pizzing off the neighbor who in fact is the neighbor hood wacco (Meds) is quite another. I gave him my number back when he complained, no biggie, however he has been calling me about every week and a half asking me about dogs barking, kid's yelling, and loud thumper cars. Whats next airplanes? Yeah this is a guy you dont want to mess with. (Wacked out Nam Vet on 40+ years of Meds). Used to know a Vietnam Vet. He Lived next door to a friend out of town. We went out one holiday and started shooting AK 47's and SKS's. Making all kinds of noise. I was told Ben did not have too good a night. I didn't even think until I heard that. Another guy I used to work with when I was 18, had returned from Nam. He was always real "Jumpy". I walked up behind him while he was tending chipper. Took his safety line and gave it a jerk. That guy tried to jump into the Sawmill Chipper. Felt bad after I seen how much it shook me up. Never did it again. I've worked with the older Vietnam Veterans and the younger Vets from the more current veterans. I would never knowingly do anything to any of them! I am a Nam Vet, this one fact does not help me dealing with/conversing with, any of them. Frankly i was to stoned most of the time to remember if i had a hard time. likely a good thing. Stoned or not, we did our job. Let me tell you the gooks were the last thing i was worried about, we had a tiger jump on the boat one time, he did not last long but jeses h christ , i did not sleep for a week., PBR, rivers, and done. And the wife wonders why i dont really care for going to the zoo

  2. This past weekend Rachel at Grant Fidelity did something a little bit different and a brave thing to do(Ian passed away this past summer). Grant Fidelity was at the Toronto Taves Consumer Electronics Show in Toronto. Grant Fidelity is all about high performance at low prices. This year Rachel decided to show folks the lineage of the excellent Chinese electronics that she sells. So displayed this year at the show were the two flagship amplifiers from Jungson (solid state) and Psvane (tubes). To demonstrate these fine amplifiers Rachel brought in a brand new open baffle full range loudspeakers from PureAudioProject the brain child of Ze’ev Schlik. I was fortunate enough to be asked to go along and I provide my analog and digital interconnects along with my modified Sony DVD player as our system source and my AC noise reduction devices. This turned out to be a one two three knock out success as 6 Moons Reviewer Tim Smith declared the Grant Fidelity room as "Best Sound at the Taves 2014 Show". What a great experience and what a wonderful time playing and listening to music. Thanks to Rachel and Ze'ev for making all of this possible. I think that Ian is feeling very pleased right now. Best regards Moray James. http://www.6moons.com/industryfeatures/taves2014/3.html

  3. Costco trip with LF yesterday. Bought Mayorga organic coffee beans. Not bad at all. Got the critter a large bag of Kirkland's low cal food. I mix in cut green beans and he likes it. Much less expensive than Taste Of The Wild dry food. Breakfast with the buds and now house chores. Just wet mopped all heart pine floors with Murphy's oil soap while doing a load of laundry Anyone hear from akdave about his dad? Cheers Gents

Well let me get off my lazy a$$ and do my one oil change.......my be those fools at the used car lot next to me might have something to do? Take care all :-) Mark......

  8. That's for sure, many of the pilots after the war were the guys flying people back and forth to oil rigs in the Gulf. They loved to scare people, I was one of the scared ones at times and it made there day.

  9. Happy Friday guys. Busy day for a change. Business this morning, try to get in some yardwork (winter coming on Monday, they say) and meet-up with some friends later this afternoon. 2 cups of coffee down already!! And ... they call this 'semi-retirement'. Right!!

  10. Emotiva Stealth DC-1 came in today. I was never really disappointed with using the built in line out from my MacBook Pro, but wow what an immediate and dramatic change by inserting this piece of gear. Clearer, better imaging, much better volume control. Go figure.

  12. Not I but we will be looking for anything. Brother was drafted in 65 by 66 he was in Nam. Artillery FDC and CO driver. He talks about his time in Army more in recent years. He commented that, "They tried to kill me over there"! Night patrols in and out of perimeter. He did not want me to have to go. I came close but no cigar. Draft lottery was kind to me.

  14. Your background doesn't extend to subjects like information theory and digital signal processing, right? (If it had, I'd've thought that you'd had a recent cerebrovascular accident and just had forgotten some really important things.) I really don't know how to respond without: offering a full primer on the subject of information theory for starters, inadvertently insulting you, or both. To be safe, I'll just abstain and pleasantly recommend any text on the subject in the most friendly manner possible. These books can be freely downloaded from the web. Insult away, which you already have by implying I can't possibly tell the difference in the sound of a song without understanding information theory. If you think things like math and information theory will win the day, then you ears are made of tin! Ok let's get into simple signal paths. Vinyl. Spin record. Drop needle on record. Diamond sends signal which is amplified by a couple of magnets and sent via four wires to preamp (for stereo) Only moving part, the cantilever. Stream a song. Access a site halfway around world, acquire an information file composed of thousands of zeros and ones/ Route through several dozens severs, through their spinning harddrives, via an additional thousands of miles of copper and optical cable to a computer with a constantly fluctuating voltage supply onthe power rails, and then send it to this, the most simplistic circuit for a sound card I could find, and then to preamp.

  15. Walnut Cornwall III's in Seeking a Friend for the End of the World. Seen in the latter part of the movie when Steve Carell's character listens to a record in his living room. No grill on the speaker but you can still see the rubber dimples used to help center the grill top to bottom. Spotting the Cornwall was the most exciting part of the movie for me. ymmv

  16. to not speak theoretically, I tested this method and it works. I was able to distinguish + and - of the CD. DUT was a Denovo DNA-360 I had idle lying around. we know if the polarity of a CD is right, the diagram will push upward so the pressure at the throat increases, if the polarity is inverse, it will move downward so sucks in the air. I used some non-iron washer as spacer: I put them on a very thin selephone sheet: I put the spacers on the selephone: then put the CD on them and wrap the plastic all around the driver: the plastic layer will be in some kind of suspension so any movement in or out will be simply visible: I connected a 3v battery to the compression driver. when the + of the battery is connected to + of the CD and - to -, the plastic pushes out, when is polarity is reverse it will be sucked in. I hope this helps.

  18. She's attempting to delay the inevitable. As with all media, physical copies and even money itself are going to become less and less relevant. Wether we like it or not. On the plus side, taking money out of the equation leaves only the artists who are truly passionate about what they do and the fans who are truly passionate about supporting said artists.

  20. Mine is a Dogue De Bordeaux (French Mastiff) with headphones. timdog which my friends gravitate to calling me for some reason my whole life. Tim Doggendorf is full name Whoa they made a big stretch there! I also happen to love all types of mastiffs, I have or have had English Mastiffs both my boys were 220+ lbs, Bullmastiff's, Cane Corso (Italian Mastiff's) and currently the French mastiff. Coincidentally the dogs do not like the speakers, imagine that. I got into audio when I was about 15 and my friends brother had a basement with eight La Scala's two on each wall . And a wall full of equalizers that looked like a Christmas tree. Why he Felt he needed two on each wall is beyond me,(Probably just because he could) but it sounded freakin' awesome! Been chasing that down my whole life! I still would like to replace all my surrounds with RF-7ii's. I just don't think I could pull all of them far enough off the wall to make it sound good. The back surrounds, no problem, side surrounds they would have to be against the wall. Money seems to throw a monkey wrench into the equation also.

  21. From the album: Joeydingo

Kind of cool that that original owner gave me a letter from Klipsch verifying that these 1974 LaScalas came from the factory with the "full screen" factory grille option. Until I found this pair, I had never known that factory option existed

  22. Amen. At a Marshall football game a couple years ago, they had a special opening ceremony with family members of the crash, etc, and some scenes from the movie. There wasn't a dry eye in that stadium. I got chills. I have never in my life seen so many people so somber. The stadium holds over 38,000 people, and I'd say there were 25,000 present. This may have been the saddest day in the history of this state. It certainly is in my lifetime.

  23. I agree with this. 80 Hz is the industry standard, and it's not that way just because it's a standard, but it's proven to lighten the load on the speakers and allow them to do what they do best. The subwoofer cut runs up to 80 Hz and beyond for a reason. I promise, if you put a decent sub in, and let it handle 80 Hz down, it'll blow away anything you think you hear now at 40 Hz.

  28. Ok revenue from the industry is down 50%. It's a good thing you have plenty of music already saved up because getting good new music may become a thing of the past when the artists/producers, songwriters get less then a mil whenever you streamers play their music. So tell me when you worked, or those who still work, did you or do you give away your labor for free? I kinda doubt it since you all seem to have a lot more disposal income than some schlub like me. If you like cd's you probably also like coffee. The one set of jitters counteracts the other. Also, I'm really sorry Chris, but you really don't seem to have a clue as to just how torturous the signal path is for streamed music or cd's. If you really think you are getting an exact copy of the master tape presented to your ears from a digital signal path you are smoking more crack then DC's former Mayor, Marion Berry. Here's a diagram of a really simple cd player. Don't even get me started on DAC's and computer sound cards. I have a friend who owns a recording studio. His sound card cost two or 3 thousand, the minimum he says he needs to even come close to getting good sound out of the internet. Yet you guys are pulling this off of the intenet probably using some mass market Dell or iThisorThat thingy. Good luck.

  33. sometimes i want to try. This Sunday i will officially be entitled to pension number three. still not sure how an irresponsible guy like me stumbled into this --the good Lord has just smiled on me. not leaving the job yet…but who knows when. have a great day. Good luck with number three, iv yet to hear of anyone complain about Too much retirement. Seems i ended up with more owned items than money, witch is great, im still a year out on my first entitlement. Retiring early @59 is by far the best thing my wife ever ask me to do.

  36. I wish we could get FTA here but were to far away, I hear the quality is good. Good deal a tv in the cave, if you have wireless you could get videos and play it through you cave speakers. Everyone can get FTA if the Antenna is correct for the location, you would likely need a long range Wineguard and a rotor. Im in the Burbs, so FTA is not a big deal, im going for long range Frisco stations. Pic is that of my current scanner Ant pickin up 13 stations w/fade now and again.

  37. Morning gang: Sunday eh? recovery day, Zip planned. coffee barely making a difference. Lab/Cave monitor project completed, finely an HDTV in the cave and ALL wiring hidden, gone, non existent. On yet another note, i have not been flexing my Volume like i used to before my neighbor complaint,(im sure the locals like that). The guy that complained a month ago, came by the house wile i was gone, left a message he lost my business card. Stopped by his house yesterday, see he has a wife on the porch with him, so i walked up and handed him another card with my phone number on it,(in case of another complaint). This Wacco introduces me to his wife, and in the same breath, being "The Horses Azz" of the neighborhood. this guy is one of those wacked out NamVets, you get that real quick when conversing with him. I just looked at this guy and walked back to my car, holy cow, this is the kind of wacco that is on the edge/drugs for 40+ years. Reminds me of Bruce Durn in the movie "The Burbs".

  39. Morning gang: Smell of smoke is in the air today, air is clear but the smell is there. as of last night three main fires going and a few more spot fires, total 7, all in the same area. Have not had any calls as of yet on these, they will be ramping up personnel today. In other news, i see by an email, PayPal is is now giving people 6 months to dispute a sale, who in the hell does that? My ebay selling has been in the tank for years anyway with their fee's, so fk them. First cup down going for the second. Tarheel must be keeping busy. a good thing.

  44. Morning The wife's friday and im sure she is looking forward to her outing. On the second cup w/Duggans. Ebay has been some interesting news as of late, it seems if your a seller, people now have 6Mo, to either like and keep your product, or one morning you could wake up to a whole bunch of return demands, six month return policy? who the Fk does that ? So after today, no more selling on the Bay for this boy, their Fee's are BS anyway. UPS and the Fedex have doubled their rates in the last two years, so if Ebay does not rip you off enough, the shipping will. Greed is scre-w-ing the american way of life.

Im guessing we will have a couple fires out of this weather that's coming for the next three days.
