  1. Too Much Coffee I was addicted to coffee. Probably my own fault. When I was married, my wife was a little coffee hound, despite her high blood pressure and sleepless nights. I researched how to make good coffee. Used a water filter. Got the beans. Got a oval grinder. Made it fresh every day. Delicious. But I got headaches, stomach aches, nasty and cravings if I didn’t have a cup every morning. My mother’s and restaurant coffee made me sick; didn’t seem to be strong enough! Felt like my body was rejecting it. Then I got headaches, stomachaches, jitters, nauseousness and diarrhea when I did drink mine! I was working at Applied Bank in Boca Raton when the planes hit the Twin Towers on 9/11. The bank treated everybody like cheap phone slaves in a call center, even professional programmers and Tech Writers. It charged for coffee. Something no business should do. I decided that taking a break, walking down a floor and paying for it was a good time to quit. I think I had to talk an aspirin or two every day for a while for the headaches. I know I gained weight with the munchies. Switching to tea helped. Now I can have a cup with no problems. Two makes me jittery again. Coffee & Ice Cream DietWhen I was young, I had one of the worst possible diets. If I was one pound over weight that day. I would run out the door, grabbing a cup of hot coffee to drink on the cold commute. Grinding my own fresh beans was the single greatest increase in my coffee drinking experience. The coffee broke my overnight fast, gave me something to digest and energy for the busy day. I skipped lunch and sipped cold coffee through the day. Filled up with fluids. At night, I might have a dinner later, but first I grabbed something quick, easy, cold, smooth and creamy. That’s right, ice cream. Always tasty, always fun to eat, ice cream cut my cravings. I’d go easy on the big late night dinner (no time left for late night exercise). I’d drop a pound that day (probably expulsion of roughage as much as anything else). The girlfriend out of town recently. She doesn’t like coffee or ice cream snacks. So I revert back to short-term bad habits. Drop a few pounds. Turns out, ice cream is one of the 10 lowest glycemic foods! A diet of narrow food choices is NOT healthy – the widest diversity and selection is best for nutrition and taste - but as a short-term fix to start losing weight, The Coffee and Ice Cream Diet gets me started down the path. Favorite ice cream? Hagen Daz Swiss Vanilla Almond, with coconut flakes and chocolate chips, topped with whipped cream

  4. Great, bet she's happier than you about that. I don't get it, from everything I've read the flu is pretty widespread and this respiratory thing is going around also. I have heard of no one with the flu but many with the respiratory problems, I wonder if it's like a different kind of flu ?

  8. Mornin' everybody ... Good news for us .... Aubrey came home from the hospital yesterday much improved. Hoping this is the end of it. There were some 40 other kids at Children's for the same viral respiratory illness. Really bad stuff. Thanks again for all your prayers and encouragement. Yesterday was pretty average ... finally got rid of the Xmas decorations for another year, watched our Broncos stink it up and pampered ourselves with a great rib eye roast. Love to cook. Gotta get some of the cast iron you've been talking about. Back later .....

  12. Oh... I get it, we're pushing the envelope here - let's see how offensive we can come across... yeah, funny! I'll play...just insert "dogs" to take a jab at that crowd...or "ferrets" ...I mean, who likes ferrets after all. Of course, if you really want a response, let's throw in "children"... can you picture that?! A couple of kids dashing around avoiding your bullets. They're small and can move around fast enough to present somewhat of a challenge for you and they'll figure out what's going on about as fast as cats would, or those d@#n ferrets (I think your dog would be too trusting to offer as much fun). I do apologize, but seriously, if you think using animals as target practice is funny - that may just be your upbringing. If you think its funny and not offensive to others, then perhaps you need to see a psychiatrist and work out some of those issues. If you just like being offensive, then by all means, feel free to attack me but please focus on my choice of amps, speakers, phono carts or wires... that's the norm around here and I'm an easy target. Be as offensive as you like - I promise you, it won't bother me one bit. Unfortunately though, you won't be able to watch me panic and run for my life, wrench with the sudden shock of a bullet entering my body or listen to me as I gasp for my last breath...but hey, I use those Cardas 'garden hose' speaker wires so that should be of some consolation for you... have at it! Again, I apologize...just felt I had to get that out there before this threat gets shut down. BTW, this thread should be shut down so the OP can get a fresh start.

  13. No thats right alright. Somethings are only good with a cast iron pan. You can do it but...modern tech. Swamp cabbage cooked in an iron kettle over a nice wood fire. Bacon drippings also called for in the recipe. Some do black pepper. Cayenne is easier on my digestion I found, while not making hot to taste. Perfect according to Justin Wilson while adding fatback bacon. Ahh-eee'

I have heard of no one with the flu but many with the respiratory problems, I wonder if it's like a different kind of flu ? It's either that or a pretty potent substitute for it. Nasty Sh**. Like i mentioned, there were some 40 other kids in the hospital at the same time for the same thing. Kids and the elderly seem most vulnerable. Will keep the fingers crossed!! Thanks again.

  22. I just got back from New Orleans since the New Year celebrating my 60th birthday on January 4th with my wife and dogs. I touched base with Boxx on buying the Jubs from Don, then he contacted me when he was ready to move on as I had on owning some myself. I have lived in Duncanville for 30 years, I have sisters that graduated from Kimball. Boxx was a class act. Thinking positive thoughts for him and his family.

  24. So this is my set up in my family room as we speak. I still don't know if I'd be able to fit anything larger than the width of a Cornwall. I don't know the width of any of the others, but then if I do something like Klipschorn or jubilee, I need to get rid of the towers which is not really an issue. Where will I put my center channel then as I use the fireplace.

  29. I couldn't agree more. Those little electrons start spinning around, then they get dizzy, then they fall down, then they get up and stagger around. The sung vocals start getting all sloppy and it sounds like drool is coming out of your speakers. Oh. Wait a minute. That's me.

  30. As most on this forum know, Iv purchased a few sets of these over the years, that being said, Calif pricing $1200 to 1500. Do not wish to rain on your parade, forum members have bought them from me at either the same price i paid or at a slight loss. GLWS, these would be good trading material.

  35. Yes, it's open. To your benefit, I live something like 6-8 miles out of Vonore. (which I understand is one point of departure for the Dragon trip). Point being, I don't really live in Knoxville, I'm not that far out of the way from the Dragon. If your time here is the same weekend as the trip to Hope....and I'm I Hope....that would definitely complicate things. If I'm NOT in Hope, the answer is people are always welcome.

  36. My 10 year old son Steven has started fundraising for the American Heart Association. As I was setting up his page just now, I couldn't help but think of Boxx, and included his name on Steven's page for remembrance. Alex, I hope you don't mind. I feel it's the least I can do.

  37. You've had a lot of thoughts. My 2 cents would be, if you have the corners, you can (yes, blindly) go with Khorns. If you want to go balls to the wall, you can go Jubilee's. Of all the Jubilee owners, I'm guessing that about half bought them without ever hearing them first. Most knew the sound of the Khorn and also knew that PWK had a hand in the design.....and that was enough. That said, I happened to be one who heard them prior. Reason I'm mentioning Khorns is, if you have corners, they are the most room efficient speaker that you can buy. I'd contend that if you took a Heresy, RF, Pioneer HPM 100 or a Radio Shack Mach One, those would ALL take up more usable floor space than the mighty Khorn and, get smoked (in sound) in the process. I certainly understand wanting to hear something first. Others have offered and I'll do same. If you're ever in the Knoxville area, you are more than welcome to come by my place & hear the Jubilee's (I also have LaScalas) I can almost guarantee you that when you leave, you'll be daydreaming about how many dollars you can come up with...

  40. Went to the Lodge outlet store in Tennessee last time we were up there. The selection was great, anything you could want in cast iron, we picked out one that was the size and shape we wanted, strange thing was I found it on a rack which was supposedly seconds, it was perfect and smooth couldn't figure out why it was on that rack ? Overall they all looked fine and were smooth, I don't know if that is normal or the outlet stores get the better quality ? I have a Martin and this Lodge is just as smooth, luck maby ? I liked this model (P12S) because it's 12" and has rounded sides which is different form most cast iron.

  41. Wow, just drinking my first cup before work today and after reading here, I am starving for some reason. Quite the cook there Joe. When you get a good cookware, you keep it. Have dabbled in cooking since 15, and Nancy always wanting my pasta dishes. Me, I can handle a couple of bangers just about anytime.
