  1. So after hearing palladiums a few months ago i have been itching to try them in my own home. i decided to total up all the money i have in gear around the house, and decided to see what all i can start selling. so while i am losing a lot of gear (that i don't really need) i can finally find out how the klipsch palladiums sound in my home. to me its a price to pay to end the wondering. so selling bedroom setups, and computer setups, and setups i have in storage just because. the only things i will not be selling is anything from my downstairs home theater, and the wife said the cornwalls better not be going anywhere! (I really do love this woman) so on to what i have coming. on friday i ordered the p-27c in merlot. it should be here tomorrow. now i have p-17's payed for but the seller is really pushing the towers on me. i like towers much better than bookshelves as far as looks. plus the thought of having bookshelves on stands with a 4 year old whizzing by them scares me. so i still haven't decided if i am gonna (or can) fork over the money for the towers. since i am selling all my stuff, i will be getting rid of the projector and screen in the living room. me and the wife are ok with it cause we have so many windows so frankly i'm excited to take the kuro out of storage and get it back up. i have a gentleman buying it and a whole 5.1 package from me. i always have good luck selling full packages to people as it just comes easier to me than selling separate pieces. so i have to find a new avr eventually if the palladiums end up staying. i will use my once 805 for right now. HOWEVER i do have to find a subwoofer for the living room. and foot print can't be huge, just don't have the space for it. pics will come once the stuff gets here. and as usual waiting is the hardest part...

  2. Sup gentlemen? High of 76 today. Front should blow through this afternoon (poss 45 mph winds) and 32 degrees tomorrow. Like they say, if you don't like the weather in South East TX, just wait. Last weekend I made the mistake of borrowing a co-workers robotic pool cleaner. My wife absolutely loved it. We had a Polaris installed when the pool was new and describing it as a POS would be a compliment. We've been manually cleaning it since about the second year of ownership which takes almost an hour. No more. I ordered a robot this morning. You just plug it in, drop it in the water, push one button and take it out when it's done. It's incredible. What a time saver. They're pricey, but the time savings alone made it worth it. I NEVER would have taken the plunge (HA!) if I hadn't borrowed and used one first.

  8. Headed to 75 degrees today, 72 tomorrow, and then a 30 degree drop LF gave me her old iPhone to use. Trying to figure out how to stream Spotify to my dac. I can then free up my lap top. Mike gave me some good pointers last night. Again "cables" come in to play Down to 181.8 this morning from a starting weight of 189.6. Jake is gaining though. Following Gary's work with interest. A neat profession. I'm starting to have suspicions that Earl is attempting to corner the market on used gear Hey Earl I have two pot lids that I bang together that are pretty musical. Want to buy them? Coffee done much too early. Cheers Gents

  10. I was the first to respond to this post and was offered the khorns. I accepted on the condition that the seller post them on Audiogon for thirty days. I did this because I could not take advantage of a newbee who obviously did not know the value of what she was selling. She is not desperate to sell. We are not CL but rather a community of people with a similar interest. I felt like we had a responsibility to not take advantage of her. If she does not sell on Audiogon I can take them with no guilt. I am sharing this only because I do not want anyone to think she welched on her offer to sell for $1,850.

  13. Sorry Chuck, I should not encourage the sweets ;0) Carl, those are leather padded phenolic discs. They are mounted on threaded brass wires and held I place with cow hide 'nuts' OK, stop laughing now (((0: Anyway, these go into an all wood assembly and shift back and forth when a note is played on the organ, thus in turn, lets stored wind blow into the organ pipes... The silver metal discs, are 'armatures' that go into an antique magnet assembly... When you play a note, this disc will shift, sending a pneumatic signal to those mentioned above... It is kind of complicated, but believe it or not, this very old system is lighting quick! Hope that is enough info for those interested... Mallette, you would love my Allen... I have a DIY 'water heater' subwoofer. It is a SQUARE 15" driver powered by the big Dayton sub amp (1000 watts) and handles the two 32' stops...... All for now.... ........gw

  14. You are not messing around. You are putting this system together quick! We talk a lot about amps, cables, DAC's and other things to improve SQ. Yet, it all comes down to speakers. This is the single best thing a person can do for improved SQ. The Palladiums are on a lot of wish list, lol.

  16. Good afternoon everyone... Thanks for the photo link Earl, they look great! Do they sound much different then your others or are they not home yet? Keep up informed. Chuck, thanks for the comment on the organ parts. So I continue ... Just finished assembling those components you saw in the earlier post... Here, you can see the valve in the port, and the polished brass wire in its guide. The maple cap magnet is now mounted, has that little port in it..., This is the underside, shows the actual coil windings (not the coiled lead wires) which are custom replacements made to the same spec as the originals from the 20ies ! Thanks again for your interest... I have one for Mark next ;0)

  17. I didn't believe in external amps until I saw the same movie through the same speakers both on the flagship preamps and receiver from Marantz at a similar low'ish volume. I'm sorry to say that the amp setup runs all over my SR-7009 on dynamics. Even made a whole thread about it. It's just not the same. https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/154902-dynamics/

  18. I agree to a point. I'd fire up the patio stereo and blast tunes while I cleaned. It's no fun when it's nasty and cold out however. It also takes me away from other projects. I will say however that I'm one of the last hold outs on the block that does his own lawn. Almost everyone else has a service. I still enjoy pushing a (non self propelled) mower around the yard although I have no idea why I like the process. The mower is quieter than the kids!

  23. Congratulations on the sale. The HK A500 is a really nice integrated and you offered it up at a great price. I was going to post a few specs for you and a headphone modification; however, before I got a chance to log in the amp was sold. Not completely wireless. How is this for the requirement? Late breaking news hot off the presses on why premium cables cost so much!

  25. I was curious to know what kind of power from the outlet I was drawing at idle vs. movie-listening levels. Much thanks to ellisr63 for getting my thoughts churning. I ordered a P3 Kill A Watt from Newegg.com to roughly see what I was using. (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882715001). I have a HK 3600 as my AVR and my room is 12 X 30. My listening position is 7' from 3 La Scalas. I have a 7.2 configuration. Sides are Sony SSF-5000s and rears are some cheap @ss speakers I got for free. Just trying to give all of my variables. When at idle (-50 on the HK), I am using 93 watts, give or take a watt. When at -15 through -20 on the HK which is the range for which I watch most of my movies , I am at 98 watts. It definitely surprised me that I am not using that much power between idle and "oh crap, this is gonna permanently cause damage to my hearing senses." Just wondering what yall see out there on how much you really need?

  26. We should grab pitch forks and torches to descend upon Klipsch/Audiovox to demand the banishment of foam surrounds. Talk about planned obsolescence? Foam surrounds don't last. The treated paper surrounds in Klipsch Heritage drivers last indefinitely. I enjoy the sound of my Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 while toiling at my computer, but I know the foam surrounds will fail eventually. Show me an old speaker with foam surrounds and I'll show you a re-cone waiting to happen.

  28. Nothing for me, fed x two day shipping was supposed to be yesterday, still not here. The wife called them last night and they said it must be the weather, there was some fog, sorry. Never seem to have that problem with UPS. It's just something for work glad it's not anything exciting. Edit ; it was finally delivered, It even said on the sticker it should have delivered yesterday, I guess 3 day's is the new 2 day delivery ? Probably should just be glad it came at all.

  29. It makes perfect sense when you look at how efficient the speakers are, and do the math. The meter he is using is the same one recommended by the power company to check your electricity usage and is very accurate. If you doubt it measure the voltage on the output to see how much you are really using. I think you will be very surprised. Also, as I recall there is a function on the Killawatt to show amps. Big amps are made for outdoor use or with low efficiency speakers... Not for high efficiency speakers used in your home. Once you find out the amount of power you are using stick an Scope on their and see how much distortion your big amp is putting out for running at such a low power output. .. You will see that you are running your amp at the highest distortion since you are running your amp at a lower level than it is optimized for. Get an amp that puts out the amount of power you really need and you will have less distortion then running too big of an amp..

  31. The advantage to high efficiency speakers is low power. Another thing that people don't think about when buying an am is... Amps are designed to run at a certain power (as an example say arbitrarily 2/3 of max), when you buy a large amp, and are say at 1/3 power you are listening to your amp at a higher distortion than if you had an amp that was matched better to your setup.

  33. Your "new chuck"?? Seriously? yes, it's the new style Keyless cuuck, it's a $200 chuck so i cannot complain the taper is wrong for my drill press, i simply broke down the press, pulled the shaft and will have a machinist turn it down a tad. Do it myself but my metal lathe is in a hanger in Reno w/no power anyway.

  34. The uptick in response came as a result of two forum members suggesting I move my post to Garage Sale from where I originally (erroneously) posted them. The Forum Moderator took the initiative, as a result of that suggestion, to move the posting. That's when the responses increased. The fact that I was so under priced definitely spiced the pot. As a matter of fact, I even received a good samaritan email from my CL posting, suggesting I pull the post and re-price.

  35. Same here, and to add, one reason for my venture back inot records is for the few childhood memories I did have. I am instantly brought back to summertime in Ohio when listening to some of my albums, and am also brought back to my pre-teen years in Jersey City. Music for me has gotten me through some very extreme and bad times. When I felt no one out there undestood me,all I had to do was hide in my music. When I felt no one had my back and I was alone, music was my escape. It is a constant book mark for me in my life and lets me skip from page to page or chapter to chapter. As I get older, it's more for me to remember things I'm doing with my kids now.

  36. Really lets you know that an amp for most of us is just a waste. Sell the amps buy more subs. Lol

  37. I wouldn't touch any of them either, if you go 3-5 years old, they all still have HDMI, 4K, and 3D. The 4K at this point is a waste, as they are already changing everything. Any of the Yamahas RX-A1010 and up to the RX-A2020 SERIES will be fine at 110 watts per and 140 watts per, don't worry to much about the 30-40 watts of power. I run KF-28's,C-20,2 sets of RS-14's, KB-15 and 2 subs through my receiver and have no issues, you'll calibrate everything with the hook up mic.My Synergy/ICON system is 9.2 channels and ICON is basically the Synergy line with a different cabinet, that's it. There is a very slight difference in crossover, but they have the same power ratings. Any receiver that does not specifically state all channels are pushing the same power is going to drop with output power and will drop more as you add more speakers. If Yamaha isn't for you, try the Onkyo TX-NR709-809 and models younger than them. The 709 is 110 watts, and the 809 is 130 watts. If Onkyo isn't for you try the Denon X2000 SERIES,3000 SERIES,and 4000 series on older models, they will give you more power, or go Marantz 6000 and 7000 series with older models. 110 watts and better. My receivers are 140 watts per channel, and 125 watts per channel for the livng room and family room, my bedroom is 90 watts per channel but is also pushing smaller bookshelf speakers and only 1 sub. Both the other systems push 9.2 channels.
    2 points
  38. Depends if you want to plan for the future. A good 5.1 setup will be easier to find in that price range. Usually. Read the specs carefully. Most of the time if it doesn't specify if all channels are driven, it's either based off of 1 or 2 channels. Not if you calibrate them properly. The big issue is the fact you're using F-30's vs. whatever the match was with the C/S-10's. Just adjust levels and make sure you're setting them to small. I'd be really surprised if you push them that much.

  43. Good day my friends...... Excellent topics / conversations today... (tuba project!!) Lunch time here, but too lazy to drive out, so, I had our wonderful office gal run to D&D's for me with my card.... I needed to replenish my personal coffee supply. So, just brewed this up, it is actually pretty good ;0) So was the chocolate croissant ! Oh, I will be shopping for some interconnects for the vintage rig.... Believe it or not, the long runs (12') to the mono blocks are from Home Depot and are dead silent ! May just pick a few shorty pairs for stuff in the rack so it all matches... (0; Yes, those are restored pipe organ parts in the background.... Enjoy the day everyone :0)) .....Gary

  44. That's correct. He may have an 8" driver (I'm not sure) as opposed to the 10" in mine but it's the same sub. Basically, build the sub and put whatever finish on it that you want. I believe the plans call for the driver opening to be within a couple inches of the floor/wall and his is quite a bit more than that. I may not be an audible difference however. Horns need less power than conventional subs. I'm driving a dual 8" driver box with a BASH 300 watt plate amp. It's plenty.
