  1. Morning Gang First cup, and tasting mighty fine. Ah-Ha, it's Wend, had to check. Shipping out the K400 horns this morning, day over. 72 in the cave, very, very nice, should be able to hold it there till 11am. 90 predicted, better, tolerable, pretty much even the birds have split Calif, heat, no water, they are leaving. Wife throws out bird food in the back yard, an hour it would last, now at three days still there.

  5. Evening Gang Up from nap, dinner in the oven, Bloody Mary on the desk. Mr Crow has taken over the work desk, comin along nicely, and yes, he will be built like a brick chir house. Pic's of the base wood also, he's NO puppet, he will have weight/sturdy/builtright about him, and easy to get-to-electronics. Beats BS Drone/RC projects. wife has already laid claim to him.

  6. There was a swamp cooler by the back door of the clubhouse last week, it was about 6 foot square with a huge water trough under it. It worked OK but to me not nearly cool enough for a house. we got on the subject because I asked why at different times of the day he would turn off the water. One night he did throw a bunch of ice in the trough and it did make a difference. He has about 4-6 (can't remember) on each chicken house which is 200' long, one end has the fans the other thick paper media with the water running through it. There are 18,500 chickens in each house and each house is monitored with alarms which are sent to his phone. Of course food and water is very important but this time of year heat will cause more losses than anything, he is paid by the pound and if the chickens are not comfortable they will not eat right and be up to weight. Very smelly business Christy asked how he deals with the smell, he said it smells like money.

  7. I ALWAYS wear some sort of eye protection when biking. There's so many bugs in the air around here that one in the eye (or up the nose) is inevitable. Shades during the day and clear ones at night. You've chosen the proper path to recovery however. Vodka therapy works well in these type situations.

  9. It completely depends on the humidity, was just talking about this last week with someone with a lot of experience, chicken houses but the same idea. Just the differenced in humidity from morning/evening compare to daytime changes the efficiency greatly. In El Paso, it was good 24/7. Texas in general, you can get some use of them starting at about Fort Worth, where you may have six weeks centered on August with sub 50 percent humidity. As you get west it's more and more and most of West Texas is evaporative friendly for a considerable part of the summer. El Paso is pure desert with maybe 10 inches of rain a year and sub 20 percent humidity most of the year. If you have good insulation from the brutal sun, you do great most of the time with evaporative. Don't know about now, but when I lived there even upscale houses had central swamp coolers, some pretty big. Dave

Mr Crow wil have three servos, and will talk, motion sensor, as well as random movement, hell that part was easy and done, missing my machine shop i shipped out to the nevada hanger the first of the year. Three agents working on my next and last find, missile silos, abandond base are at the top of the list and lets them get the idea. area and outbuildings are a must.

  15. Looks like a great start Mark I am hoping you will have a link to a video so we can all see your finished work in motion Will there be sound as well ?? Ok on the AC topic, couldn't live/sleep without it in these parts....THOSE hot humid nights are a thing of the past when I lived at home with the folks. But, I think I understand you..........hot/humid season is longer then 2 months however, I need a place to get away from the sticky weather all you C&C members south of me know what I am talking about... Are you going to downsize for your next home ? ....and yes.....only two of us here with 5 bedrooms and 3 full baths as well..with that, 3 bedrooms have been converted into 'fun' rooms. One, a study/library/theater, the others are a keyboard studio and dedicated theater... Second livingroom converted into the 'Music Hall' which many are used to seeing on RTM, so, the first floor is nothing but music, music and more music making the best of what we have and being grateful for it Enjoy the evening one and all.............got to start charting music for the show in Sept. this for the annual - national fair... .......Gary

  23. Cranky I have been siting here for some time considering your question, weather to PM or just reply here. It is the Lounge & we are mostly all among friends, so I will do the best I can to describe the story in hopes it my help some one else. My Pat was one of the happiest, loving people you would ever hope to meet. Nothing put a bigger smile on her face then pleasing me & her children & helping anyone in need , giving strangers children food & xmas gifts. She had a true joy for life & was a devoted Christian, still loving me even though I am basically an Agnostic. Her health issues began to appear some 20 years ago, at that time there was no medical test for or any information by the medical field for Fibro Malegia . She saw many doctors, most told her she was just depressed & needed to see a shrink. As the year's (decade) went by Fibro became identified & recognized as a ligament disease. Doctors began giving her Vicodin, Zanex & mussel relaxers (Soma). Then the govt got involved -& she was sent to the type of pain clinics you describe in your earlier post making her feel like a criminal & addict. This had a very negative effect because she was so overly sensitive. Fibro attacks the joint & nerve system, at times her whole arm & shoulder would turn purple with inflammation, little to no sleep for years. Then the Lupus attacked her weakened body-- continuing the downward spiral although never hospitalized... Bottom line is it just grinds you down! She said repeated over the past few years a dog should not have to live like this! She mentioned suicide occasionally, but always said she couldn't take her own life because of her christian beliefs. So I did not ever really believe she would do it, plus she loved her 2 grown children & me so very much & life itself -- but obviously it got to the breaking point. Every day I still ask my self could I have done or said something that would have changed the outcome, & I am sure I will still be asking those questions the rest of my life. As I said a few month ago, hug & tell your loved ones what your heart says as if today was the last day, and in between Enjoy the Music my friends.

  25. Anybody use evaporative cooling around there? Seems you'd be pretty dry in the summer. When I lived in El Paso evaporative was the preferred method as the humidity was often 10% or so and AC wasn't really comfortable without humidifying. I lived in a 1930s adobe structure with 22 inch walls inside and out, and a 10" rammed earth ceiling. Probably 900 sq ft or so and a single evaporative cooler kept it very nice. Dave

  26. Mike, welcome to the forum. The cable debate, as you can tell, has been going on for a long time. There is a huge reason for this. It comes down to two things. First, is everything that's measurable perceivable and is everything that's perceivable measurable? The answer is: we'll never know. Perhaps at the moment we just can't measure everything we're able to hear. That brings us to problem 2. If that's the case, then how is it that the high end cable companies somehow are able to reliable produce cables which give a "clear sonic improvement"? If they can, then they know the mechanism, and then by definition it should be measurable. You never see these measurements. Now, there is a load of concrete evidence showing that different cable making techniques can cause different effects to lessen or amplify. I myself have made "audiophile" cables and measured them to be lower in inductance, DCR and capacitance than standard zip cord. The differences we're talking about, however, are laboratory differences. Things which are literally beyond human perception abilities. It's these sorts of differences companies like to throw on their websites and make it seem like they have made some monstrous leap in science. Here's what I recommend you do: choose a pure copper, high strand count speaker wire, terminated in non-corrosive contacts. i prefer gold plated bananas, some prefer spades, it's all preference. Make sure that the wire gauge you choose is large enough for the run you have. I would say that 14AWG is perfect in almost every typical situation. Anything larger than 12 is overkill. The DCR will be low enough that you don't have to worry about it. Parts Express has great supplies to do this yourself, or you can buy some ready made. Final and most important note: any audio component after the source can only make what you hear less bad. It cannot improve the sound quality. Any claim to the contrary is false. Many people tend to get caught up in what "improves" the sound of their system. The reality is that the speaker is at its maximum ability already. What you put before it can only make it sound worse, not better. So, instead of spending lots of money on wiring, spend that money on a nice amplifier which will have good control of your speakers, have good headroom and not impart its own distortion. Best of luck.

  34. Good afternoon folks. Just catching up (again). Pretty day here so far but busy on my end. Swamp coolers are still common in Colorado but are being overtaken in popularity by regular AC. I replaced mine with AC some years ago because it was both old and not in good shape. They can be excellent alternatives to AC in a climate with low humidity, which is generally the case here. Cheers to all!!

  35. That part of Arkansas is probably second only to equatorial Africa as a bad place for a swamp cooler. 100 degrees and 70 percent humidity, another 15% on top of that is just what you need. Can feel decent if you sit right in front, but if it's in a building the rest of the building will be much worse, and when you step out of it you are hotter than you would be otherwise. We had one in Texarkana before we had any AC units. Worked decently only in August. Rest of the time it made the place more miserable. Dave

While we are still kicking this subject around the Lounge, I would like to comment (hopefully with out hijacking the thread) That I received a tremendous response of support from members of our Klipsch Forum back in February & followed up by several loving member in the months since, & that support was -is- priceless. Two member's, Wardsweb & DWI LAWYER attended the Funneral service, just as I know several of you did for our brother Boxx. This forum ROCKs in so many ways. I raise my glass to all of you,,, , A Doss XX of course. Cornman

  38. Guess what? BLT's on the menu tonight. Wife bought 5, 1 lb. packages of Jamestown Brand hardwood smoked sliced bacon from North Carolina for $1.79 per pound! Just cooked up a pound in the oven and sampled a couple small pieces. Very tasty! O.K... bring on the sourdough, thick sliced juicy tomatos, some lettuce and a generous portion of mayo on both sides, and fresh ground black pepper. Damn it, I just drooled on my keyboard again. Have you tried this bacon down there Chuck? It is branded as irregular sliced value bacon, great for recipes. Typically I'm pretty fussy about fat in bacon, but if it's cooked to perfection, like my wife just did, it's all going down the hatch. Oh, and vodka tonics.

  41. Whelp, as I was expecting, procrastinated to near time for her to come back from Maine off of vacation. Did get my 5.1 mostly finished except for odds and ends. Did some other stuff too but, as for what needs doing before she comes, not worth a hill of beans so. Working under extreme pressure in the heat of the day telling the yard contractor what I need besides the mowing, Nan's plants, bush, etc... When Minute Maid Molly gets here bright and early, she and her partner will have their work cut out for them. Final outcome will be, I will reap the reward, and the points, kudos thinking, Billy is a hard working sweet individual. Meanwhile, notice am keeping cool under the pressure. I do my best work, last minute and under pressure. !!! Like a brass ball valve! No leaks! As for Coffee and Cables, I've read every post here. Good Stuff!

  44. The only thing a swamp cooler would do around here is grow mold. I had a good friend that moved to El Paso. We went to see him once and it seemed that every house there had one on their roofs. In low humidity, they're very effective.
