  1. Hey gang, happy Tuesday. Denver is essentially 'closed' today for Super Bowl parades and up to 1M people jamming downtown, at least according to local media. Think I'll celebrate in spirit and supervise the guy installing new floor in the laundry room ... a sign of old age, perhaps?? Recovery seems to be going ok ...back at the B-3 learning some new-to-me old tunes. Enjoy the day and many cheers.

  2. Morning all..... Yes the snow is falling again.....should be getting about 5" or so.....nothing like the last storm... Me and the BOSS just chillin drinking some coffee. We'll leave for the shop later....it'll be there when we get there....should be some 40° tomorrow and the snow should be gone. I don't think I'll even take the blower out. I should get a fire started so the cats can stay warm.....the two that have little fur like the fire.... Wishing all a good day.... MKP :-)

  4. Woke up to just enough snow to dress the trees in winter finery. This has been a mild winter in Southeast Michigan, the new San Diego of the Midwest. Enjoying a cup of Folgers Colombian while listening to Norah Jones in balanced mode on Pono player using Klipsch IEMs. Reading about tonight's clash between Spartans and Boilermakers in West Lafayette.

  10. I have great luck with Silverstone power supplies, my machines run overclocked and are on 24/7 @ 100 % always running Folding at home for cancer & Alzheimer's research for Stanford University. <Link> My oldest machine is well over 10 years old and still running, Good power supplies cost a bit more but in the long run will save you money not destroying parts or buying new ones every 3-5 years. Thermaltake is what Fry's carries over the years, $60 bucks for 700W, with online discount, $30 bucks out the door. I have a stash of PS, but they changed connectors a few years back. As long as this is THE only problem, im good with it.

  16. Shopping at Fry's is almost as bad as going to a old school audio store, i could spend hours just checking stuff out. About Thermaltake, i don't recall ever owning anything made by them so i cannot comment, Seasonic is another good brand for power supplies. The trick is to make sure you have plenty of available power, once you start to stress out the power supply it wavers and creates ripple not to mention the extra heat. Hope everything works out for the best.

  17. Yep, these have been my thoughts too. That's why I waited, that and to make sure my wiring is where it needs to be. There is concrete/block on the other side of the studs so they are still within a 1' of a corner and have great solid bass. Like unreal horn loaded solid bass. These bins are so cool, nothing like the belle. Don't laugh but I was looking at decommissioned parachutes on ebay, thought that might make a cool fabric stapled to the studs. I think it sounds terrific, I almost don't want to sheet-rock then just cover it again with absorbing material. I hate the window, a mistake by my builder who didn't think I would mind. I do have a 120" motorized screen on the way and I would like to build one of those multi-unity horns to set on the ground for a center. I love these things, they really are a whole different level, 5.1 movies and concerts must be phenomenal.

  25. I've heard it, I bet a lot of the other critical listeners on this board have heard it too. In my case my AVR Onkyo TX NR-717 has a ton of electronic adjustments inside. I can select a Theater listening mode (Theater or Music) that sends dialog essentially to the center speaker, music to the L/R. It's super clean for both music vocals and dialog. If I use Music mode vocals get sent more to the L/R, but the L/R then images better, so it's the usual trade offs. The other adjustment I can do is dynamics. For ultra Theater experience I want max dynamics so dialog is normal, but explosions and such bring you out your seat, too loud! I also like max dynamics for music. However if I want I can level that out 2 or 3 notches so dialog and music is pretty much the same level, which is much more enjoyable for everyday TV watching. I think you have hit on a very important thing. The reason there are so many listening choices in an AVR is to allow the end user to choose what suits them with different sources. The center channel should be the best speaker for voices in the theater. We all know that's where most of the voices end up in a movie. Quiet has put the two best speakers IMO for this together and I am sure it sounds stunning. As Don said, voices get muddled when they come from many speakers due to arrival delays and the confusion it causes in our auditory center. In Chris' post, there is a chart that absolutely confounds me. It does explain why my kids and I listen with different settings. I suppose keeping the LR about 3-6db down from the center is the way to go if you want to keep anybody from wanting to leave.

  38. I think the issue is how good do you want the sound? We reconfigured between the EV's, LaScala, MWM/LaScala, MWM/K402 by a punch of some buttons. Any of the speakers (EV's, LaScala) would work fine but they all sounded better with the more oomph that the MWM provided) I had some industrial Heresy's, I put on top of my Jubilee bass bins. They would work and sound "ok" outside but simply need more weight on the bottom.

  39. Most definitely. It aint a party till the police show up though! I never move my nice "indoor" speakers outside. For times when I want to get loud outside I'll use my patio mounted KPT-100's or get stupid with my garage KP-301-II's. Pretty much any of the industrial lines will get the job done.

  42. I learned my lesson. Always save the box. On larger boxes sometimes it works pretty well if you break down the box so that it lays flat, then store the packing material separately. Less wasted space.

  43. Nah. You talk the talk you better walk the walk or you're going to hear about it. If you wear superman shirts, mvp shoes and tell everyone that the league hasn't seen anything like you before and then go out and lay an egg, the smack is going to come right back home.

  45. Welcome to the forum. For the moment, I would go with what you have as should sound alright with that setup, imo. After you get a little listening time, you will know how your room is reacting to the speaker setup. That is, in corner or in from walls. About a foot out from wall is about right. Is the floor concrete, carpeted? How high is the ceiling? Do you have a pic of your 2 channel room? Sorry for the 3rd degree but, others will want it. Some here have experience with Cambridge. Good experiences I have read. There will be other directions to go later but, a good listen first, and then feedback from the forum here. BTW, welcome to the Klipsch forum...

  46. I won't say much because i'm in a crappy mood...my first words aloud at work today were "i hate this place!" It's getting harder and harder to keep my mouth shut. Guess it's about time to figure out how much they will pay me to stop coming to work. Union won't give us details unless we submit an Intent to Retire form (another stupid rule because the form is non-binding). Gone two days last week and there are a million things to do--including stuff from the Department Head which I disagree with. 6:29 this morning and it was already 74 degrees. Hope you all have a good day. Rant over.

  49. I just sold a set of mint 19s to a local man. He was running Heresy's. He is unbelievably happy with them. I on the other hand would not put them up against the Klipsch top four. I have the top four and have done a lot of listening to the 19s, side by side with the Klipsch. Klipsch for me won every time. Having said that, the 19s are no slouch. They do have great sound. As a matter of fact, the day I sold them, I had sellers remorse. Now to put a kink in the chain. I purchased a pair of modified 19s and they blow the original 19s away. In my opinion the mods keep up ( almost ) with the Khorns. Not quite, but close. I am headed out today to pick up some JBL L300s. Cant wait to hear what they sound like. I have learned a lot from the Klipsch forum members. But there is nothing like hearing for yourself. Its definitely a wild hobby we have, with all the different gear and speakers we have to choose from. It becomes absurdly addictive. I also am picking up some tube mac gear today. Will the search ever end? If you can get the 19s at a reasonable price, go for it. They are worth a listen. I wish everyone a great day. If you get a chance listen to some music. Dean
