  4. Toughest job I ever had as an 18 year old senior summer job "hod" carrier for three brick layers. We are talking 1971 and paid $5/hour, huge money for a kid back then. Carrying cinder blocks, pavers, mixing and wheel barrowing cement will make a man out of you quickly. Dark tan and fairly chiseled by mid-summer but all I could was go home and go to bed. Those guys worked the shitt out of this punk. You don't realize how heavy a big shovel full of cement weighs when you're slinging it over your head to a scaffold or pushing a full barrow of cement on a 2x8. I think I need a nap just thinking about it ---

  6. Not sure why, but I woke up at 4:30 this morning. Couldn't go back to sleep so I have some time to kill before I take my grandson to school. On a bright note, I did buy the Outlaw RR2150 from DLOC13 out of the garage classifieds. New toys are always cool.

  8. Afternoon gang Finely got the first coat of "Snowroof"(like rubber paint for Rv roofs) Thinned the hell outta this stuff, another coat was counted on anyway, so really with an airless, i'll just keep spraying coats till i have a white roof! One coat so far and it tinted the black roof slightly white. 2hrs between coats. Time for a Guinness, tastes good on this 90+day on the cave roof.

  13. They're quite a bit smoother today, he actually quit working at age 50, but kept the company for 15 more years. He stays busy today. His last kick was building small masonry birdhouses, before that was building all my brothers and 1 sister birdhouses.....an exact copy of the one they live in. Took him a couple years.

  16. 3-1 ratio is what killed you...that's impressive though if you kept up. I grew up in it, had 4 older and 1 younger brothers all in it also. My Dad was a lifetime mason, going strong at 88. It feels like he could crush my hand by shaking it. I had fun growing up with it. My dad always had 5-10 employees and my brothers. To me a day with them was like going to the gym, playground, and the bank.

  18. Did you read his first sentance.....Do-it-yourselfer's should avoid muriatic acid where possible. Instead, try the chemical or mechanical cleaning alternatives suggested below. Using it will void the warranty on new brick. It's a very nasty chemical, you have to be EPA licensed to get full strength muriatic. (I will admit, I occasionally use it)

  29. Haha...yea don't consume any muriatic....basically hydrochloric acid. I would not use muriatic on any brick, might burn the face off. Sureclean is a good masonry cleaner. Lime solvent will work.

  30. Well...all I gotta say is: After the first time wearing this "bacon-scented" underwear item following a night of partying including beer and pickled eggs, the newness will DEFINITELY be worn off the "Bacon Scented" part of the underwear, which even manufacturer-supplied washing instructions will NEVER bring back!...just sayin".....

  35. I like to think we're constantly making improvements. Years ago muriatic was used everywhere, my Dad used to get it pure in 30 gallon containers. We can't buy that anymore. That was my weekend job, cleaning brick homes my Dad just bricked. New brick has warnings all over them about not using muriatic on these brick. It can make steel rust instantly, break down some caulking and paint, damage coatings to windows, and the fumes can kill you. Now we use this....http://www.prosoco.com/sure-klean/

  37. OK, I know the title of this thread is '...great photography' but I did what I could with what I had. This is a shot about 30 to 40 miles south of Grangeville, ID on Hwy 95 heading towards Boise. It's at the beginning of an 8% grade that drops into the valley and along the Salmon river, by Hell's Canyon. I took it yesterday evening. It was dusk, hence the lack of detail. I was standing on a ledge with a pretty considerable drop and took the picture. It's a panorama shot I took with my phone. I should have increased the exposure but it is what it is. If you haven't traveled in the Northwest you should probably plan to. I'm lucky that with my job that I get to see scenery like this pretty much every week. Hopefully, you can click on the picture and zoom in a little, it shows the mountains in the back a little better etc.

  38. Pretty sure Matthews doesn't drink, so I will take his case! Seriously, it is not hard to find some real good dudes (a few dudettes) around here willing to lend a hand. I am glad to be a small part of your project as it looks like it is going to turn out to be a killer set of speakers. Just hoist one up for me when you first fires these babies up.

  44. Concrete slab. Whoever was the guy that poured the footing for the retaining wall, left "Flashing" an inch higher than the sidewalk. A real chit job 30+ years and 3 owners ago. It's been nothing but a dog outhouse for 30+ years. We gonna fix that. Once slab is done (Both Sides) then, we start the eval on the R&R on the wall. P.S. this is the short side, on the other side im looking at a 70' + run......

  45. When you use the right lens they are better like these, not during the ceremony but you never know if we'll ever see Mr Shalam again so here goes, and one is a toast to you (let's just say) by his best friend, Richard Groves. If they need to be removed let me know or you can do it, no problems, there is also a few that happened a little later you might like, I can email them to you.
