  2. Some speculation here. Sadly we are witnessing very strained critical care medicine. Considering the massive volume of patients being cared for I’d have to think that the level of care for them all suffers. When that comes to ventilator management this could be lethal. Technologically modern ventilators offer clinicians lots of flexibility in applications so they can choose the best clinical approach for individual cases. That requires time. Intensive care requires intensive work and intensive skills. That is not happening now. From this pandemic experience I hope that a new generation of mechanical ventilators can be developed - ones that use artificial intelligence. We understand the measured and derived medical data and we make decisions based on that data. Some of that can be automated. The ventilators can be upgraded to autonomously manage patients when caregivers are in short supply. Changes is patient status can be remotely reported calling clinicians back to a patient in distress. There are a number of prospective improvements possible for mechanical ventilators that will improve their efficacy and clinical efficiency. Hopefully there will never be a ‘next’ time. But we had better plan for one, and the sooner the better.

  8. Just heading back from dropping number one off at the airport. She’s going to be stuck on this plane with 14 others plus crew for six hours. At least she’s wearing a mask. I’d be in a moon suit checking it for holes the entire flight! Wb

  12. Skunk you say? Had some baby skunks under the mess hall @ Ft. Benning once. One of the cooks said he was going to take the scent bag outta one of them. Naturally we didn't believe him. Had a guy in our barracks who had a habit of just flopping down on his bunk. We'd taken the springs out of it a few times and got him but a skunk scent bag? Somehow we alllll happened to be outside one night and the dude went in to flop. Yup, he was a bit late finding the scent bag partially under one of the metal legs. Glad I had a room downstairs. Nasty just nasty.

  13. Oh, how I'm grinning! Felt a lil bluesy so pulled this one by Melissa Etheridge. A bit different but still the same old ME carrying side 2 like a champ! No regrets un-zippin this one after that. Felt the need for speed! GREAT 1980 album with some early Stevie Ray!

  15. Finally set up my TD-125 here in the desert. It’s an early one from the 60s that I’ve paired with a 1970’s Fidelity Research arm and a current production Ikeda headshell and a Denon 103 and step up. It’s really sounding SWEET!!

  21. @mustang_flht Italian music, I hardly know. I like the groups "Il Volo", "Sensation Fix" and "Arti & Mestieri" very much.South European music bubbling like a volcano. I always get very jealous when I see your super neat covers. My record covers have been used by my cats as a scratching post and are quite damaged. Unfortunately I could not prevent this, but the records themselves are in super condition.

  24. i I always wanted a Metregon from the time I saw one in person at Henry Radio in the 60’s. I finally got this one from a Craigslist ad about 2 years ago - the son of the original owner was moving and was selling it. It a 3- way system with 130A woofers, 175 midrange drivers with cast horns and 075 bullet tweeters. I still have my Cornwalls in my main system and I use Heresys for a 2-channel TV setup. The Metregon is a beautiful object and sounds great but the Cornwalls rule.

  30. Speaking of India, it was only recently I learned curry was a mixture of spices. I've singled out cumin as having probably the most prominent flavor in the mix. I've been using cumin in various things lately, and I really like it. I'll tell you what's really good... Kabocha squash cut into small bite-sized chunks, with same-sized chunks of chicken thighs, chopped onion, garlic and ginger (adding serranos, garden peppers, salt, pepper, cumin, or however you like to spice it). I discovered kabocha squash about a year ago, and now, it's a regular for me. It's not as sweet as a sweet potato, but it's sweet. It's sweeter than butternut squash. It's not as firm as a butternut squash and not as mushy as a sweet potato.

  32. I was told by an American while chatting a couple weeks ago that this is why they have those wet markets. If you, as the buyer, don't watch them slaughter and package the animal that you get, they will give you the old, putrid, stuff and try to masquerade it as edible. That is very dangerous. They need standards, for sure, but if poverty is this rampant, how are they going to pay the added costs associated with good regulatory compliance and enforcement? TBH, this is why I am not inclined to piss and moan about life and politics in the US anymore. We have our issues in the U.S., too, but I consider myself dang lucky they aren't as dire as they are in many other nations.

  33. oh no... there are some strains that do smell very similar to skunk "perfume". For the most part, tastes better than it smells. Not this tire fire crap. dead skunk in the middle of the road... thought that was Jim Stafford... Nope.. London Wainwright I drove over one, a fresh one. Did not hit it with the tires. Could still smell it in the car when I went thru the BP checkpoint... 5 miles later and I had the windows open the whole way. My eyes were watering.. I can tolerate a certain amt of the smell. We had a "pet" skunk living here for several months.Ate and played with the cats. We never had a major [smell] problem with it. You would notice it come home after a hard night. Never discharged here, tho. I relocated it for fear of rabies. Told wife that if the vet would give it a rabies vaccination, it could stay. The vet wasn't going for it. Helpful hint when live trapping them. Use the smallest trap they will fit in.If they can't lift their tail, you won't get blasted. Learned that with the first one... I moved several. 4 or 5. Would rather deal with them over 'coons. Had to transplant a few of them , too. Coons can get mean.

  36. should be that way. I went to the lake... Parking lot to capacity and frig people camping. ...and more coming as I was leaving. so much for "stay home"... the only reason for the folks to be camping is if they have an infected individual in their house... and especially then, they should stay home. They could be carriers. Not a new concept does Typhoid Mary ring any bells? I shot the governor an e-mail suggesting he limit numbers of people at recreational facilities. The state parks that you need to pay to get into have a gate and attendants. Our lake doesn't fit that. rant over. my spring flowers are getting fragrance not that bad, but we're getting there. they need a little more time to develop their full fragrance...
