  3. That appears to be a re-release of an lp originally called 1965 on Bainbridge, released in 1982. Apparently there was a dispute by Jarreau with Bainbridge, which he lost. The recordings were credited as a graduate work project in the year 1965. It has been in my collection for years and quite probably is my favorite of his lp's for its straight forward presentation compared to his later work. https://books.google.com/books?id=BrgDAAAAMBAJ&pg=PA62

  24. I like it.... yes....oven dishes. Today I had made the following. Turkey schnitzel fried, breaded and fried in the pan. Then they came into the baking dish. Over it put cooked ham, asparagus and gratin cheese sprinkled. Around the meat I have then poured with dutch sauce. The whole baked up, in addition there were still croquettes. Was really tasty...

  30. Also the man behind the A-10 and other ground support aircraft. I hope you all have heard at least one of his pressing in your journey to audio nirvana. Pierre Sprey, a 1960s Pentagon “whiz kid” who was a formidable intellectual force in military analysis and weapons development, often tangling with top defense officials to improve U.S. military readiness and weapons development, died Aug. 5 at his home in Glenn Dale, Md. He was 83. The cause appeared to be a sudden heart attack, said his son, John Sprey. The French-born Mr. Sprey (pronounced “spray”) was a multilingual polymath whose interests encompassed history, engineering and literature. A Baltimore Sun profile declared that he “may well be the most fascinating person you’ve never heard of.” In later years, he established a recording studio and jazz record label in a tumbledown house and produced dozens of recordings known for their exquisite high-fidelity audio. He devised a homemade recording system that employed extremely thin wires, battery-powered microphones and a two-track Sony reel-to-reel recorder weighted with lead. He had a restored 1911 Steinway piano in the front parlor of an old country house called Mapleshade in Upper Marlboro, Md. He had made amateur recordings of Washington jazz singer Shirley Horn, who came to Mr. Sprey’s house to play his piano. “One night she was sitting at my piano and fell in love with it,” he told The Washington Post in 1996. “She said, ‘P. baby, I want to do my next album on this piano and I want you to be my engineer’ … I enjoyed recording Shirley so much, I decided to hang out my shingle.” Mr. Sprey named his record label Mapleshade and recorded primarily jazz and blues musicians, including saxophonists Clifford Jordan and Hamiet Bluiett and pianists Walter Davis Jr., John Hicks and Larry Willis. He placed rubber baffles on the walls and ceiling and turned off all the lights, refrigerators, furnaces and electronic devices to obtain as pure a sound as possible. "Something important is happening in Upper Marlboro,” a CD Review critic wrote. “To sit down with a small stack of your very first Mapleshades is a revelation.” A 1997 recording of New York’s Arc Choir singing the gospel tune “Walk With Me” was sampled on Kanye West’s hit “Jesus Walks.” Mr. Sprey said the royalties were enough “to support 30 of my money-losing jazz albums.” Mr. Sprey later moved to two other “crumbling old wood and brick farmhouses” in Maryland, his son said, and often cooked for visiting musicians, who were welcome to stay overnight.

  31. Yea-man enjoying my coffee, and responding to folks that are usually in bed when I'm awake! Still got two more discs that are expected any day now. Pulled my chair out from the table to where the speakers are aimed at the middle of the room yesterday and for a while just sat there and smiled with that Crimson Projekct! Not ready yet but I do have RadioGarden up and on low in msft edge right now... that browser sounds better than chromium by a wide margin.

  33. I love these speakers !!!, I'm sitting here listening at midnight..... happens a lot lately. I have used three different preamps in my system so far and I have never had a speaker that was so revealing of changes upstream. I think that's a good thing. I am a firm believer that many speakers can and will sound better as the quality of electronics ramps up. I am hoping that 300b will be my last amp, I am never going back to low efficiency speakers so I'm sure it will serve me well til I'm dead....

  35. I'm sure I'm sacrificing a bit, but I have an 82" TV in between my jbls and I have a VERY strong phantom center and imaging side to side, outside of speakers and slightly forward. It has never bothered me enough to want to cover the TV or wonder what if. I would definetely toe those Cornwalls in aggressively to start with and perhaps pull them a tiny bit off the back wall if the bass is too overpowering or pronounced a few inches at a time. That is, unless the balance is the best it can be to your ears with a high quality recording that you are very familiar with. I would listen with grilles off it it were me as well, just a preference.

  36. The most important thing is how you like them. If they reproduce music and it draws you in ... that's all it takes. Doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. I have some 'big' stuff. Doesn't matter, really. On some music, time of day, mood I am in... the JBLs work their magic. The Heresy IIs... great. The MWMs and associated stuff... yup. It all is good. Don't get hung up on the stuff.

  38. Finally pulled the trigger on a pair of Forte IV’s and am powering them with a Vincent 237MK Hybrid Amp. I relegated the Tannoy Revolution XTF8’s the the bedroom stereo system and am stoked as they are great speakers in their own right. My initial impressions are WOW! The scale, punch and “live music” feel are all there. To my ears there is nothing missing as the bass is deep and tight, mids are clear and unmuddled and the highs are clean and defined. Have about 80 hours on them and always questioned the “break in period” notion although it makes sense on some level. These speakers absolutely rock but have handled everything (jazz, metal, blues) I have thrown at them. And for me there are definitely sonic improvements over the Forte 3’s, which I almost purchased. Interested in the thoughts of other Forte 4 owners.

  45. About a week ago I have joined to Klipsch club becoming the proud owner of Forte IV Black ash model. Using them with my SE 300B based 8W amplifier and I have to say this is fantastic sound. I have to accept all previous comments delights, the sound is unbelievable in all genres of music I used (from classic to new age). I have stopped to think about next updates planed previously to improve sound in my system, currently I don't know what need to be improved.

  46. Several months ago I purchased a pair of beautiful Cherry Forte IVs to replace my 1986 Forte 1s I had inherited from my father. I also added a set of the lambswool grills and man oh man the combo is stunning. I power these with a Primaluna EVO 400 Integrated amp and to my ears the IVs are a major improvement over my upgraded Forte 1s. The number one thing I notice is the incredible sound stage. It is much larger in width and depth and vocals are much better centered. It makes me feel like the artists are playing live right in front of me in my living room. Bass is deep and very punchy, the midrange is fabulous and the highs are more accurate without being fatiguing. I love my system with the new Forte IVs as my mains. In my mind they are a major improvement and fill my home with incredible music. There isn’t a genre of music that I have heard that doesn’t sound freaking fantastic with the IVs.
