Today, out of nothing, I changed the gain setting of my iFi Zen Phono preamp to mm (see Pic). It had been on Mc high ever since I bought it. Although I have an mm cartridge, back then, I thought the Mc high setting sounded louder and therefore better. But today, after setting it to mm, I realise I was wrong all along. Set to mm, it sounds slightly less loud, but it is so much more well balanced, the highs and the lows I mean, and there is so much more subtleness to the recordings. I listened to Daft Punk's RAM, side 1 up to 4, Charly Hunter's Bing Bing Bing (jazz), and some obscure but excellent JS Bach harmonia Mundi record by Kuijken/Leonhardt, and the subtleness increase is present in all genres.5 points

Well I picked a rainy week to drive around up here in Virginia. All the bugs that were stuck to the front of my vehicle and the windshield have been scoured off by the rain plus the highway driving. That's nice, those bugs are hard to remove. In case you wondered, it's raining and foggy in Salem Virginia right now.5 points

...Meanwhile, a LAZY Sunday afternoon here, with storms and rain and CLOSE lightning etc. So, after things calmed down, I got my glass of Cab. vino, and am listening to this one, not heard in a long while.4 points

Finishing the raking and picking up. No rush like some neighbors. Cause then, I will want to mow it. One day at a time. Plenty of food for the eating and other things. Out of town vendors from Florida Could have been far worse. Was actually surprised by my high and dry location. Others here not as fortunate yet, lots here know the routine by now. Liver getting rehydrated... slowly. Spun an old Peter, Paul, & Mary this morning. Thanks! Hoping Hurricane Lee, turns North away from coast all the way, away from Canada.4 points

Na, no masterpiece but something useful made from cheap components. And if you put some love in it, something nice comes out in the end.4 points

One sign there might be a problem is when a company does not supply ANY specs on performance. Instead of saying " Better sound through science" it should say "Better sound through Marketing".3 points

They have been creative and successful in the lifestyle product market. For many that is all they want. Their penetration of the commercial market ( pubs and restaurants) with their 301s is huge. You see them everywhere, including our local pub across the street. Would be interesting to see them attempt proper speakers at some point.3 points

This is a continuation of a thread started in the Alerts section. His La Scala's are currently stored in my garage, and I thought I'd post measurements. These appear to be completely original, except for what appears to be caked drywall dust everywhere. My first measurement was puzzling, as there were deep notches around 300hz, 700hz, and 3600hz (RED plot). Everything seemed to be wired correctly, but I decided to reverse the polarity of the woofer. I think that was the first time in 44 years that the spade connectors had been touched, as they were really stuck to the barrier strip. The Green plot is with the woofer polarity reversed. To my surprise, all the dips vanished. I did find an FR plot, and the RED plot does seem similar to the solid plot. Why the 3600hz dip vanished is even more puzzling. Thoughts? I plan on measuring individual drivers next. I'll be out of town all day so these will have to wait. I also plan on checking the woofer itself to make sure it was wired properly. Mike2 points

I stood outside that tent looking in and there were about 20 "Bose guys" w/preppy red sport shirts on w/the Bose insignia on them one-on-one selling their garbage. When I saw that I HAD to go in just to listen to the "Bullshit." I saw 'em eyeballin me and when they pointed to my hat I ALMOST took it off just to go in. Then I had a PWK moment. ππͺπππππ2 points

in these digital times... can digital medium give an accurate presentation of a frequency that is an irrational number ... like pi 10 or 100X? No? just asking.... I know... this is the difference and why analog is better than digital2 points

Well I did, first with my vintage Onkyo TT with a generic β¬24 stylus, and then - see Pic with my Project tt with a OM10 stylus. This one is much better sounding. The album I'm listening to is Dire Straits, CommuniquΓ©. This simple setup is excellent for close listening to vinyl! Note: the TubeCube is loaded with a Gold Lion preamp tube and the power tubes are NOS Sovtek EL84 tubes. These are high-end tubes...2 points

What!?!?!?!?! According to the official Klipsch blog, one MUST put your gear on the floor for the best sound quality!!! Just look at this screenshot! Just joking, of course. This blog entry has spiked my interest, because I own the gear in the picture. The Tubecube 3.5wpc amp, the RP160M speakers, and of course a turntable. Maybe I should set it up tonight. Gonna use my Zen Phono Pre.2 points

Bose has done a masterful job of propagandizing the uninformed segment of the market, a brilliant strategy really . Most Bose owners are quite satisfied with their underperforming speakers . They assume that their Bose speakers are a high end product , and they arenβt likely to second guess their decision to purchase . Bose buyers are not audio enthusiasts or critical listeners, they are just buyers of a perceived high end brand , and thatβs important to them . Darn good marketing sells Bose . π€2 points

Hi everyone, Iβm new here. After much deliberation and some helpful and somewhat authoritative reviews after the date of the last comments in this chat (i.e. Andrew Robinson, John Darko), I ordered a pair of the Sevens which I received two days ago. The Sevens is a step up from my current Yamaha set-up and subjectively it oozes quality. I am highly impressed with the sound, which is the prime purpose of acquiring these. For someone stepping up their audiophiliac aspirations, the Sevens, paired with the WiiM Pro make a lot of sense to me. Should anyone be interested, I shall try my hand at sharing my hands-on review. I would appreciate some views from this forum as to my question: Does anyone have experience mating the Klipsch 5, 6, 7 or 9βs with a CD Transporter? I have a substantial investment in my CD collection over time and am looking at getting the Audiolab 7000CDT to play my music through the Toslink. Thanks, Dirk1 point
