  2. I started with Heresy 1 then onto Forte II, Cornwall I, Chorus II and KHorn AK3. My latest setup is an active two-way with JBL 4648 LF cabs (think 4722) with giant BFI Bullfrog 15x30 inch horns using PRV D290-pyB drivers. The room has been tuned flat by the DBX PA2 RTA mic and wizard. Rest of the system is Pioneer SPEC. This is my first two way setup and it's absolutely incredible. Stage width is massive. Depth of the stage is better than anything I've ever owned. The system is dangerous in that it can get extremely loud but it's so clean your brain doesn't tell you to turn it down. My .02 worth.

  3. i did the measurements with the speakers separated (as in the photo a couple of posts above). The centers of the speakers are 2.3 mtr apart from each other. I put the Umik 1 mic on a small stool, 1 mtr distance from the speaker and did the measurements for every single speaker. The bass could also be affected to the riser i put under the speaker with the new caps. I lifts the whole speaker 5cm up. I mainly did the measurements to see if there will be differences between de new caps vs the Aerovox onces. When i have veneered and recapped the speaker that still holds the Aerovox caps, i'll do new measurements and see if there is a difference again. i don't have plans to change the K77M

  4. Hi @MicroMara with the big passive radiator on the back of the f3s, I'm not sure about that. Plus where you have them is where I was thinking of putting my sofa facing the short wall. I will get to experiment when I get my stuff here. Until then, I'm getting paint tomorrow starting on that and trying some other places for flooring besides the blue and the orange big box stores. I can tell you all. It is such a joy to eat different stuff again without having to pay through the nose. My first bowl was bigger than this and did not have hot sauce in it. Shrimp Grits... Very nice with leftover coffee nog

  6. Did you set up and measure the two speakers in the same place? Or once on axis in front of the left speaker location and then on axis in front of the right speaker location? If you had two different locations in the room for the respective speakers, it would explain a few dips in the new capacitor, e.g. at 180 Hz and at 1.2 KHz. Otherwise, there are areas of amazing consistency, e.g. between 1.5 and 4 KHz...where the ear is most sensitive. And the bass is significantly deeper with the new caps, but this may also be due to the placement in the room in the first place. However, this measurement also shows that emotional differences in sound cannot necessarily be determined with a frequency response. One last point, your K77s are comparatively very high in HF and strong. Personally, I wouldn't trade the dispersion characteristics of the K77M for the fact that another tweeter could go a little higher, but doesn't produce this important homogeneity together with the mid horn like the K77 can.

  7. Believe it might take a few months considering the direction my bank account is going. I'll have to start another thread until I bring in my coffee table. Maybe the pics I saved on the PC of behind my rig will help me wire it up again after all this time. Then decide if I'll keep those pricey fifths? Or gauge the demand... especially for the Jr #16. Just opened the regular stuff so far.

  8. i have a Umik microphone for some time and never used it before, so this i a good time to put it to use and do some measurements. I have performed a SPL measurement on both speakers, one with the original Aerovox and one with the caps for testing purposes. Green: left speaker with Aerovox caps Red: right speaker with Monacor caps in a couple of weeks i'll do another test when the Monacor caps have had some playing time. i'm no sound engineer, so not sure what to think of these graphs. If anyone has suggestions for other tests, let me know

  11. @JohnJ made a quick drawing , I would place the sofa at the backwall area ( blue line ) the F III´s into direction to the sofa and the sub in between ...that´s the way I should try first .

  14. ] Hi there, I've asked the question before when it wasn't quite at hand as it is now: I'm really struggling to opt for either the 4.1 or the 2.1's, and I just can't figure it out. It's for my college dorm, which is like 3 x 4,5 meter (9 x 13,5 ft). Here's the deal, correct me if I'm wrong: 1. The 2.1's would deliver way more than enough volume to fill the entire room. In fact, even the 2.1's would be overkill. 2. The 4.1's create a better "soundstage". That is, as Paragon -I believe- put it, the sound doesn't just come from a certain point, it's everywhere; it's in your head. Also, DVD and gaming would be more immersive. I would highly value all of your comments. Pretty please help me choose?

  15. Now that sheds a new light on the issue! Thanks... sounds like a great plan to me.

  16. I believe that there's been a thread about this before, and as I can recall Klipsch doesn't sell the 230V ones in the North Americas, nor do the online retailers. My offer still stands though, just let me know.

  17. No, still haven't gotten my ProMedia's. The distributor sent me a note yesteday though that they had arrived, and are available from stock, so I'm looking at buying a set in the coming few months. As for the wallmounts, that I'll most surely be needing, if they're tough to import then what I'll do is buy them this summer. I'll be in the USA for over a month, anyway.

  18. Paragon, that's the exact same reason why I would opt for the 4.1's, too - the "immersive" music experience. I don't really care about the volume but figure that $100 indeed is worth the two extra sattelites. So from what you guys are saying, the room won't be too small to support the four sattelites? Also, the distributor here doesn't import the wallmounts or floormounts. Do you know of a place (preferably with a virtual store) that exports them?
    1 point
  19. That is very true -- thanks for correcting me. I guess what I was hinting at, was that for example DVD movies and that kind of thing wouldn't be as immersive as with the 4.1's. That, and the entire 3D sound positioning in games. So I'll have to weigh the cons and pros.

  20. I don't really know what you mean by "london drugs", but I take it that's a store or warehouse of some kind? Anyway, the difference is that on the American continent, the power outlets are rated at 120V and those in Europe at 230V. They're not directly interchangeable - if you plug a 120V device into a 230V socket, you're going to have yourself fireworks. That's why there are two different version of the 4.1's. They've just got a different power supply to match the voltage rating, but otherwise they're the exact same and sound the same.

  21. Gotya. =) The 2.1's go for fl. 600,- here. That would be something like $260. Since I'm on a budget, I would have serious doubts buying the 4.1's if they got any higher than $400. I adore music, but it's not like I'd ever need the power delivered by the 4.1's in my college dorm. Instead I'd just go for the 2.1, and bear with the obvious slight loss in quality. I guess I could always make it a 4.2 set lateron, although I'm concerned by the sound balance, since it would seem to me like the dual subwoofers would produce an absolute overkill of bass. Anyway, so for another one of my brainwaves. :-) Thanks for the feedback, fawwaz!

  22. Hmm, interesting. So where did you get that $10 transformer, was it a local retailer or could I order one online? Kind of weird that you got it $140 cheaper than advertised. :-) I wonder what the price difference will be between the 120V and 230V 4.1's. We'll see if it'll be worth the hassle. You might have gotten a decent device, but I might buy a piece of junk all the same and screw up the sound quality bigtime. By the way, frequency isn't any different around here; 50Hz, too. I don't think that the 4.1's will be grounded, either, but that's just my (educated) guess.

  23. Thanks for the quick response with the two URLs! To put it like this, well erm, especially the review found at the Gamers Depot came in handy. ;-) I am sorry to say that I don't have any other ones for you. Brainwave: I've been considering using my own 16 gauge (or better) wiring with the mono jacks as quite a few here suggested. Haven't read any review though recommending the same thing, and now that the new crossover is in place it might not at all be necessary for the midrange. We'll see.

  24. I'm selling my 500C. Given it's age it's in great condition. I purchased it 5 years ago intending to have it restored but never got around to it. Now that I've had my 990DB done and my LK72 up next, I'm calling it complete. Everything works as it should and it sounds great driving my Klipschs. The output tubs are Sylvania but all the others are original Fishers. $850 Located in York, PA More photos available upon request.

  27. I just came in to a pair of 1978 Klipsch Heres 1's. I'm planning to replace the fabric on the cover (I've ordered from crites) but unfortunately one of the covers is missing the badge. I've found plenty of options for the pie logo version on ebay and etsy but these have the laser logo version. Any idea where I could get some of said nameplates? They seem much harder to find.

  33. There are a bazillion car audio forums out there that can help with your adventure. I spent almost 30 years in the car audio industry (and home A/V), from 1980 till 2009, with the last 8 as a Manufacturers rep and I'm glad to be out of it. Lol. It was fun for many years though.

  36. Here goes: Dave? No kitties allowed here. Mike? I tried pale blues on ceilings before, complete with faux clouds, but nah, not the black! Willie, yes I believe I'll even have to do the subcrawl around here. Heck with the small space I might play with the rig for the computer and try running the Forte's and the subs with my little tube separates now that it would be a couple months of experimentation and fun! I've been vacuuming ceilings, walls and baseboards today and I'm tired of it so I'll quit. Took better pictures of the flooring along with the tape that shows the pieces are six and a half inches wide. It's backwards but I'll be okay. I think I need to get the floor straightened out before Wednesday when the appliance is get here!

  37. @MicroMara I take that you didn't go swimming [though I have seen some tourists in a pool with the weather in the low 60's]. We watched while wearing our coats ... 60` is cold for us desert rats. @JohnJ your den, 12 ft X 12, is about the size of my doghouse. The bass, even with the R15M's, was strong. If you take the 23 foot and set up the room as 12 X 23 .exactly the opposite. You will have fun setting up the audio.

  40. first speaker is ready. Unfortunately its hard here (the Netherlands) to acquire the correct Klipsch capacitors. I'm in contact with @JEM Performance about the price for shipping a kit over here. Meanwhile for testing purposes i tried some other caps, Monacor MKT. 1+1 uF and 3+1 uF. Since the Aerovox seem to be done, at least changing should do no harm to my opinion. after prepping the speakers, i got to the veneering of it. Because i've build a birch plinth for my modified Lenco L75, i thought it would be nice looking to also have the speakers in the same veneer. The front panel is painted matte black, same with the back panel, and the cabinet is treated with 5 layers of Rustin Danish oil. I also made risers, panted the same black as the front and back panel. About the sound, to me it sounds that the speaker now is more alive, highs get a little crispier and the bass is fuller. Not sure if this is due to the risers or the other capacitors, but at least there is a noticable difference. Next up, the other speaker 😀

  41. Thanks for the shots from your day trip today George. My den? 11' 3" wide over there, 23' deep to the kitchen window on the other side. Not ideal, might go catecornered to the dinette section? Will not know until I experiment... Think the mirrors were glued with liquid nails, it is that brown color. & the other direction Finally closed today!! HO HO HO!! Early and Best Christmas since I was a kid! So I'm at home for the first time since June 2021!!

  47. This solo performance by Tal gave me absolute goose bumps, I had tears in my eyes when I saw it, because of this incredible joy of playing and energy that Tal radiates, like an angel sent to earth. Unfortunately, I only saw it for the first time two years ago, and today it's almost 17 years ago again. My goodness how time flies.

  48. Lets all just leave the capacitor discussions behind us, at least in my thread. I've showed measurements, asked for and got the advice i was looking for. For now i'm leaving my caps where they are, and who knows perhaps in the future i'll replace them. thank you @Deang @henry4841 @OO1 for your opinions and insights, these were very instructive! Don't worry though, i have lots of other questions at hand, so time enough to discuss other specifics of these magnificent speakers 😇 next up, veneering!
