  1. Ive also never been quite happy with a passive attenuation set up... and I have tried a few, topping out at a Hattor that was by far the best build quality I have seen for a long time. it's not that I couldn't live with one if I needed to, but they all seem to do similar things... that is the reduce the impact and transients. Not terribly, but ever so slightly that it is annoying to me personally... this also makes the sound more 'ruler flat' and less dimensional. it's just a personal preference as many of those passive are really great at what they do... 'attenuate' if you catch my drift.
  2. They make GREAT rear surrounds if you need something that is approaching Full Range... And they make a GREAT Center Chanel for the same reasons... Of course for the 'Mains' duty, they also excel in more intimate settings because of the nature of their engineering and usage of a Compression Driver/horn-controlled directivity for the meaty part of the frequency range. There are MANY different Speakers these days, but how many of them will still be around in 10-20 years... I know one that will be for sure. Get the IV's, you won't be sorry.
  3. Um... Anything below 'Supersonic' is 'Subsonic'. if we're talking about 'below the audible range' then yeah, SOME subwoofers can do that, but not all... and for music, that might not be desirable for some listeners. think of passive radiators like you would signal phase.
  4. I'd set my sub/svs upper 'cutoff' lower... what kind of slope are you using for that xo point? Also, The Xilica 4080 will do a three-way AND a sub. Lower is going to have a more pleasing hand off to the Jubilee bass bin imho... as the two signals briefly 'Cross Over', they (hopefully) 'Sum' and if there is to much overlap, they will create a bump in output at that frequency range.
  5. I Posted a picture of it in the other thread...

    What I Got Today!

    Thanks for reminding...
  7. Nothing could be FURTHER from the truth... there's NOTHING basic, short or naive about vintage horn design, attenuated or not.
  8. I am sure manufacturers use them because the can not guarantee all applications of usage fit within your or my vision for implementation. In as far as usage in my signal chain, all my equipment use xlr and some REQUIRE xlr so there is potentially a point where one end is xlr and the other is single ended. Like I said, it's not that big of a deal.
  9. Three way is better than a two way??? So is a four way better than a three way? What about a single driver???
  10. it's not a big deal... everything in the signal chain is xlr and the only part that isnt is the nbs,

    Art Work vs Value

it's a wonderful story... but it doesn't add to or subtract from her artistic abilities unless her travels were specifically driven by artistic endeavors or learning. art galleries are kind of like arseholes... everyone's got one. Whether or not they are successful or if they have profitable traffic patterns is something else. it's a relatively nice looking piece and has some size to it... so I think my personal impressions as fairly spot on in terms of valuation... it's a 'Decorative' piece in the 900-2500 range in a gallery setting. I think they pump these art pieces out by the boat load from China and India... In which case it would be worth SIGNIFICANTLY less.

    Art Work vs Value

    Nope... but it's doesn't hurt.
  13. is anyone looking for a pair of Cornwall B type Crossovers? I purchased them here and never used them... aesthetically they look great, I can not verify function because I have no way to test the sonics, but I would be willing to bet they are fine. Shoot me an offer...

Stalking is great fun and a family past time... awkward
  16. I have NO interest in changing from the Professional Jubilees to the Consumer Jubilees at this point, regardless of their capabilities... I find something VERY endearing about the the Original folded horn Bass Bin over the modern Ported design even though it's less capable. UJ has been tough to wrestle with, and its been trouble to get right... but it's been a cool journey.
  17. No Corners... No Walls... And most certainly, NO ROCK!
  18. Seriously... they are your Speakers, do what you want. Just don't expect anyone else to admire or agree with what you've done. :/thread
  19. Hey Craig... can the NBS be modified to Balanced input outputs if I am only using one or two inputs? I am just curious

Lot's of that Home Made Sauce... that's the only way. We are still trying to perfect the recipe, and there is still some finesse to go but it was Delicious for sure. The hardest part is finding the Goat supply on a regular ongoing basis. We're not like Mike @Thaddeus Smith over here
