  1. I was approached by the boys in a white van with speakers once in a parking lot about five years ago. They gave me their pitch about having extra pairs that were given to them by their own place of work by mistake and wanting to unload them for quick cash. They wanted $250 or so. My street since clued me in right away. I only looked at the boxes of speakers they had to see their scam product. The box the speakers were in listed retail value of over one thousand. They even just happen to have a nice laminated card with all the specs and retail value of these extra speakers they just happen to have. I listened to their whole spill and got a big kick out of it all. I offered them $20 just to mess with them. No sale. It was fun for me.
  2. I check local craigslist and ebay daily and need nothing too. Will buy if it's a good deal though. I've got some good deals off both. Just picked up a nice used Carver CD player for $20 off craigslist local a few weeks a go a few miles from my house. No remote and I had to fix a little something with it, but it is perfect now.
  3. DrWho, Take a photo of it for us.
  4. New crossovers completely built in less than one hour. Way nice... You the Man!
  5. Duke Spinner, Kicked the door in ...>?? for a loud stereo ..?? Do you believe it. My friend and I were in my apartment's club house. Residents were allowed to reserve it for parties and such. The club house was placed away from the apartments so the noise would not disturbed the residents. It was a very nice set up. I had a huge party there once and rocked the stereo with no complaints. This time it was just my friend and I jamming on my stereo. These two cops kicked the door in. All they really did was brake the lock some what and a little damage to the hinges. They said they thought there was a wild party with a live band, I pointed out to them that there were no cars in the parking lot and that should have been a clue. I told them I had permission to be at the club house and I knew there were no complaints because people partied at the club house all the time. As they were leaving I told them I would inform the apartment manager they were the ones who damaged the door. The apartment manager never ask me about the door damage. She must have just had maintenance repair it. Wang Dang...
  6. A long time ago Wild Turkey and Nugent blew mine. To this day my friend and I still get a big laugh about that night. It was concert level. The police kicked the door in because we couldn't hear them a knocking. Oh, the good old days. Wang dang....
  7. For me the old alnico K-55, K-77, and K-400 are good enough. The K-55 may not be fancy, but it does a fine job. The K-77 may not go as high as other tweeters, but it is sweet enough and blends very well with the other drivers. I tried the 511B horn and found for me it disbursed the mids too much. I replaced my diaphragms, woofers, and crossovers to Bob's new AA versions, because mine were old and had been abused. I got my Klipschorns local cheap knowing with the added cost of the updates it would still give me a good value. Is the Klipschorn perfect? Maybe not. Can it be improved on? Can't everything? I do not think PWK just threw a bunch of stuff together to sell. He was a genius in my mind. When I listen to my Klipschorns it's proven to me every time! I'm glad I'm at a point where I'm enjoying the music in sonic bliss and not chasing that perfect audio nirvana that some never stop chasing and may never find.
  8. I came close to selling mine. When I first got mine they did not sound too good. They were 1978 models and had been abused. I replaced the diaphragms, woofers, crossovers, and wire with new and they came back to life. I'll never sell them! You experience the music and not just listen to it. You can feel the whack of the drum go through your body and the bass resonates the entire room as it should. I've never heard speakers do drums like Klipschorns do and I've heard a lot. Even vocals seem to go right through you as if you were in the front row of a live show. Sometimes they can sound a little boxy, but that is easy to forget due to what they do right that no other speaker can. Some amplifiers sound better with them than others and of course rooms.
  9. I've never seen these: http://cgi.ebay.com/Speakerlab-K-Klipschorn-Design-7-Folded-Horns-Speakers_W0QQitemZ260125321420QQihZ016QQcategoryZ50597QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

  16. Thank you Gil. A great article. I'm sure glad you bumped this one!
  17. Thank you. Yes, they sound as good as they look. I put the best components in them. I did not build the A7 cabinets. I refurbished them. I built the top boards the 511B horns are mounted to. I put a lot of hours into this A7 speaker project, but won't bore you with all the many details. You can tell by the photos. Decware's Jensen Imperial would be awesome! I've spent some time considering a Jensen Imperial project.
  18. Claude, What PWK told you about the K-400 length is very interesting. Thank you for sharing that.
