  1. You could be right, but If he could identify the single bad channel after a couple of power source swaps, he wouldn't have to post this problem. I have to modulate the balance to get the sound right, but with each change of volume comes another change in balance. You can swap speakers and mess around with that for a while, possibly still scratching your head with random outputs continuing....or hookup another powered source and put an end to it right then.

  3. Well it could be the receiver if he is using it as a Pre, but has tried two different amps. He needs a fully different source to take the first step to determine speaker problem or electronics problem. We need more clarity
  4. That would be the easy diagnosis. He really needs to just bring in an AVR or something to actually see if its a speaker problem.
  5. If you have tried totally different electronics and the result is the same, you likely have a network issue. And unless its always been this way, which might point to a voice coil problem or someone swapped a voice coil or completely different driver, given you're not the original owner of the speakers. Could be a bad cap, transformer or even a loose connection or cold solder joint, somewhere. The signal travels at almost the speed of light, so you can rule out a cable length.
  6. You can hash it anyway you like, but that little mid on the CW gets in trouble pretty quick. I bought a pair of CW Ii's back in '86. Kept them for a few years and sold them to a friend and he still has them today setup in a large playroom. They sound great at 10-12 feet off or even 20 feet off, but you will never get past the little mid and Its why the Cornscalla became so popular. You cant compare the LS to the CW, in clarity, coverage or dynamics, the LS is on another level.
  7. That's a good point and in reality mine are done around 80-100 cycles, but my real point was LaScala's are THE speaker for Classical listeners, except the fringe few.
  8. Only your ears can make that decision, but Im really scratching my head on what little you will be missing and what massive amount you will be gaining.
  9. Some people cant get away from the CW's bass that hits you in the chest from across the room. If you're a classical nut, heading to bigger mids is going to be a revelation, but the bass is going to sound non-existent coming from CW's. However, the details, wide stage and richness coming from the LaScala's is some of the best that money can buy. Get you a sub to go with the LS's, but don't be surprised if you find yourself just leaving it turned off. You will likely hear much of the content in your favorite tracks that was simply washed with the boomy CW's. Its all about the midrange, which is the majority of what our ears hear throughout everyday life or in our music.
  10. A legend in his own mind. K's Eight feet apart and he actually tried to pull them out 3 feet from the corner? Closed backs or not, I cant imagine how thin that must have sounded. I bet he has a lot of fruity stuff hanging on the walls resembling his cardigans instead of any room treatments. He may have a lot of time under his belt in the Audio Mag business and testing, but he sure bungled this test up. Just another mustard sniffer that should be scolded by his peers " Because of the Klipschorn AK6's bulk—each weighs 220 lb—I drove my test gear the 177 miles to Art's place and measured the speaker sitting on a furniture dolly in his driveway"
  11. 90 in central AR right now. Heres the kicker, DEW POINT 79! Heat index is 105 deg. right now and could go as high as 112-115. Cant breath outside with the air saturation
  12. Clean setup. My old room had the dove tail ceiling/wall angles like that. I think I miss the sound I had with that layout.
  13. Throw a post up on DIY audio for the schematic on the 1505. Surely someone over there has it or can steer you to finding it https://www.diyaudio.com/forums/solid-state/306159-ati-amplifier-schematic.html
  14. Is that ribbon Mahogany? Man that is good looking veneer. Looking forward to your judgement changing over to the the BMS mid and Beyma tweeter. I run 2 strand solid copper to my mains from the amp, but I couldn't tell you if it makes any difference.

    Pepper variety?

Thai Sun Hot Ornamental Maybe ? Or could be Little Wonder or maybe they're the same plant? This may be the same photo Oldtimer posted
  16. Silence is pretty powerful and it is becoming a lost art. That guy could have been in an inner city Chicago school and denounced slavery and we would all be watching a city burn and smelling Hotdogs for hundreds of miles.
  17. HVAC men around here carry more clout than the local family Doctor. The Dentist might be a closer second.
  18. I have all of Gregs mods minus the Crites woofers and his x-overs on Khorns. Its a different speaker now. I have heard Jubs on 3 separate occasions and I still want a set one of these days, but I don't know if I could give my modded K's up for Jubes. The soundstage is huge, the detail with the BMS mids are very clean and a step or three above easily. I made my mods in stages and honestly I think you can get 75% of the improvement just going with his larger mids and leaving your networks and drivers alone. Im still of fan of the K 55 and 77 combo even though there are improvements to be bought in drivers.
  19. You can fix all this easy as long as all your drivers work. First off, you have mid 1983 or older mid drivers, (V series instead of M's) which likely notes the dated AA networks as well. Cant tell the cab numbers, but someone likely can read them better than I and possibly tell you if it all matches up. You need to order some AK-3 networks from Crites or replace your caps or get someone on here to hook you up with a custom set. The AA networks have been around since 1971 until 1983 ish. Before you do that, trace your wires and make sure they are in fact not out of phase or mid running into the tweeter section etc, etc. Finally, you're gonna have to get the cabs in a corner or enclose the backs or build false corners. False corners are bulky, heavy and expensive to build. You can enclose the backs with one sheet of plywood. 1 sheet of plywood, four cuts and 16 screws. You never see them and you dont screw into the cabs, only the tailboard and side vent supports. Costs you $80 for a marine ply sheet. I had this problem in my last home and enclosing the cabs will allow you to toe them in or out which make all the difference in the world with getting the imaging right with your listening distance. Treatments are a huge difference maker in canceling echos and reverb which tend to be more present with horn setups. This is the area so many people with incredible equipment setups and great listening rooms often never venture into and they're truly missing out.
  20. The Dew point tells the tale. Yesterday it was 93 degrees with a dew point of 76. This turned out to be a Heat index of 110. Got a break today, temp at 93 and Dew point is 75. Heat index is just 106. Humidity just shows 55%, but have a conversation with your AC condenser outside and it will give you a heads up on how hard it is to cool a home and dry air now.

    .

I dont see how people own a new set of any home speakers these days. I have been buying only second or third hand since the mid 80's

    BEWARE - SCAM

    Wow. You never disappoint Don
  23. My point was that you dont bite the hand that feeds you. Its basically what he did. I do find the concept of Earth being flat as crazy as denying the Holocaust, maybe you misinterpreted my flat Earth comment?
  24. I get where you're coming from. Why did he take the job as an educational leader of a school in a very thick Jewish community such as the Boca area and then come across as he is denying or questioning it happened? That was dumb. You have to reserve your obtuse thoughts (and we all have them at times) in the public eye or you might get exposed and/or canned. Heck what he said was as silly as a flat earth comment He might as well tell everyone the Holocaust code looked shaky when it was placed into the simulation we're living in.
