  1. I drew the panel out (interior pieces) then like diz said put a thick layer of PL on and then screwed it to those inside panels. Having a drawing of where those pieces are made it easy. Once it dries unscrew, fill the holes, sand and apply duratex. See attached pic for reference this would be your top panel facing you so you know exactly where to put the screws.
  2. Kevin - That was my first thought just get his 265D gone through but here is the deal, it is getting very hard to find anyone to work on these things at least in my area.
  3. @MicroMara thanks for the suggestions so far. he mentioned something about being able to play both sides of the tape without flipping it over as a feature he was looking for. Keep the suggestions coming!
  4. Trying to cut down on research time and hoping some of you can help me out. My son is really into all things analog, he has a older Akai 265D R2R that bit the dust. Looking for suggestions on what some decent units are. I believe his tapes are 7-1/2in. This is out of my league as I know nothing about these units. Does anyone have suggestions on brands and model numbers?
  5. What is the enclosure tuned to? I believe the 335 is somewhere around 50hz on the LF cab.
  6. What amp will you be driving these with?
  7. With or without your gonna be surprised what that little box will do. I used a BASH 300 amp with mine. Good luck with your build.
  8. These are somewhere around 3k new I believe, can't recall either way with the "sparrow" sitting on top these will play nice.
  9. I never used any internal fill in the ones I built. I don't believe the plans call for any?
  10. Very cool my son is in to those so I'm looking for a good unit to get him for his birthday.
  11. Gain structure often overlooked but very important to get right! Glad you got it sorted. I sure miss my 942's!
  12. The 30's I had really sounded there best the more watts I gave them.
  13. He built the bat cave AKA the Anechoic Chamber!
  14. I will soon have a an all tube system and an all SS system. I do like to listen to different equipment/speaker combo's. So I say get one of each! I will say the older Mcintosh 2105 I have comes pretty darn close to what my tube amp sounds like to my ears. I plan to listen to the all tube system in the winter months and the all SS system in the summer months.
  15. That is very exciting I have yet to hear the IV series (Heresy, Cornwall) so can't comment on the changes to the mids and networks. I bet they sound superb!
  16. I'm in interested in the Merlin and the SX-780, shooting ya a PM.
  17. I wouldn't worry about that. These are real overachievers for what they do. I have a pair and have thought about selling them many times but I still have them because they are easy to transport. Mate these with a nice sub and you will have a very nice setup.
  18. I like Andrew's review and agree with most of what he said. Power, Detail, EMOTION. I have similar experiences, there are some of the speakers that I own that "measure" better and then there are others that don't "measure" as good on a graph but when I sit and listen I do get an EMOTIONAL connection which for me far outweighs a graph.
  19. Yep eyes and ears everywhere.
  20. Do any of your current vintage receivers have pre outs? If so maybe buy an external amp.
