  1. Thanks for the advice. I own a SX-990 and was about to pop the lid to replace the existing lights with LEDs. I'll be sure to check out the power cord connection.
  2. Ah, yeah, nice work Mike. I was wondering if you would ever get around to completing it. I'd call that a victory as it looks nice and nobody is gonna see the HDMI connections. Pretty ambitious hacking into a HDMI cable and connecting the way you did. So glad it works and it looks sweet. Having all the connections in the back along with a nice looking case is nice indeed. Are you using OpenElec on it or some other OS?
  3. Well, a properly configured Harmony basically saved my marriage....well not really, but that is a joke around our house as the wife hated not knowing the right order to press this button and that button and what remote went with each activity. But now with the click of one button it controls everything like it should. So I a am a BIG fan of Harmony remotes and have several in my home.
  4. Well, I guess I took it "tong and cheek". A nice laugh to end the day......
  5. Interesting tip and promising tip. Thanks for sharing.
  6. It's gonna be a good ride getting it all set up, enjoy. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on your new setup!
  7. Great thread! +1 on the emo gear. My XPA-5 has been a good performer.
  8. Better to be prepared then left wondering how you are going to pull the cables. Now its time to over engineer the garage...LOL
  9. Very fun to watch, thanks for sharing. A good reminder of how acoustics affect what we hear.
  10. Better check your home owners contract and be sure you have earthquake insurance.
  11. I'll bet that silence ate you up! silence gets me in odd situations as well. at a work meeting...pre-hearing aid days, so of course i'm daydreaming. At the end of the meeting, the person sitting next to me says, "the Chairman of the Board of Supervisors (for our county) asked you a question and you just sat there." I told her i didn't know he asked me something so i asked what he did then. She said he sat there for a moment and then asked someone else if they had anything to say. So, i figure i should go square things with Mr. Chairman...i tell him that i wasn't being rude, i just didn't hear him. He told me that he sat through that meeting wondering why i was angry at him. So, the next meeting (still no hearing aids yet)...i decide to watch You Tube videos on my phone...didn't know the phone volume was cranked up (again, i have PROFOUND hearing loss and couldn't hear it) then i noticed about 50 people turning and staring at me. It's tough being my boss. This story reminds me of a conversation I overheard between my cousin and his father my uncle many years ago. My uncle had quite a bit of hearing loss and my cousin says to my uncle "dad, you need a miracle ear". Then my uncle gave him this strange look and said "son, we don't need no mirror in here!" Me and my dad about hurt ourselves laughing so hard. From then on it was a running joke at family reunions.
  12. Looks like fun. Pretty cool that you can see the plane in the distance in the second picture!
  13. Having been in her same position many times over the years......I would have laughed and then responded with something like "That's a good question. a friend of mine the other day said he saw Elvis in Walmart so who knows?"
  14. Hey Taz, Since I live in Oregon as well I thought I would chime in on this. I just bought a used Lincoln LS about 3 months ago and could not be more happy with the car and its features. They were manufactured between 2000 - 2006. One unique feature is that its rear wheel drive which I prefer. Not many of them out there any more. There are many out there on CL almost all under $10k and under 100k miles. Good luck with your search!
  15. Kind of like a Rube Goldberg approach. Totally dig it!
  16. Is it just RJ45, if so I have the ends and tools to get the job done. Thanks for the offer, I do know what you mean about installing the ends as it can be a bit tricky. Yep, stick with B.
  17. I have done this in my own basement, but I am seriously considering the CAT 6 over HDMI. I like this product here, but need to read the reviews. http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=104&cp_id=10425&cs_id=1042501&p_id=8008&seq=1&format=2 On another note, I am ordering one to try out. If it turns out to be easier to pull a CAT 6 cable than an hdmi, then all I have to do is connect the other cat 6 I ran to this. Then he will all so have an IR repeater. Those are the exact plates I have used. They work pretty slick. I think you will find it is easier to pull two CAT 6 cables than it is to pull an HDMI cable, especially if the cable does not have RJ45 connectors on the ends. I suspect pulling with the RJ45s will be much the same as pulling the HDMI cable or maybe a bit harder. Putting the RJ45 ends takes some practice. I have experience with this so its not too troublesome but if you have never done this before it can be quite a hassle do do it right. Another method using cables with the RJ45 ends might be to stagger and tape the ends making it easier to pull the cable. I used to teach a network troubleshooting class back in the day that the first thing I did in the class way have them make their own cables. 1 straight through and 1 crossover. Of course this was done to enforce the importance of the physical layer. If it don't work ain't nothing gonna work...LOL
  18. Have you considered using HDMI over Cat 5/6 wall plates? I have had a great deal of success using this method for longer runs.
  19. Nice DIY project! Looks good!
  20. I have not owned the Yeti's but was impressed with the build quality while checking them out a couple of weeks ago planning for a 4 day camping trip. I suspect it would depend on the application. If you are going someplace for a long period of time where ice can not be replenished your ice then it might make sense, otherwise they seem to be to expensive to me.
