  1. I for this every day. I love power. In a good way, of course.
  2. The price is on the high side, no doubt about it, but according to Ebay, there have been some units selling for that price. I also saw some selling in the 450-500 range. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=Mcintosh+MC+250&LH_Complete=1&LH_Sold=1&rt=nc Most people run to Ebay for a price check, and the first thing you see is a seller's ASKING price. My favorite search option is to click on the SOLD LISTINGS, on the left. That tells you what the piece actually sold for, how many sold in the last month, etc. If you want a deal, don't fall in love with it.
  3. I don't mean to be overly anal, but it's usually Parkinson-like symptoms. They only way they can determine Parkinson's for sure is post-mortem. I know a bit about suicide from school and I have some work experience with it. I have some theories about what actually happened, but they are irrelevant now. Based on the reports I have seen, it wouldn't surprise me if this "suicide" was an accident, that he didn't actually intend to take his own life. I don't have all the facts, and I am probably wrong. Only the victim knows for sure.
  4. It's not normal to have an extra space inserted with a simple <enter>, and this does not seem to be a problem for everyone, although it does that in my posts as well. I PM'd Chad about the problem earlier tonight. I'm sure he's burning up the midnight oil to fix it.
  5. No cause I didn't do that to my Cornwalls, or Heresies. So, do you think your stock Cornies and Heresies will out-perform my lightly modified 301's, if I add in all the $5,000 worth of tube gear Klipsch fellows usually say that they have to have? (rhetorical, I'm just playing devil's troll advocate, for the sake of argument )
  6. OK, I am accusing youse guys of having a double standard. WHAT IF you gave to Bose, the same standards you give to your Klipsch's? Do you think my Bose 301's might sound better than your stock La Scala's if I: Bought new SEAS tweeters for a two grand (like you get new horns for your LS's) Bought new woofers for another couple grand Sent the cross overs to Crites or NOS and spent $1200 for the upgrade? Bought a couple of SVS subs for another couple grand, to get that sub-bass sound your LS's don't have? And finally... If I powered them using nothing but McIntosh pre's and a couple McIntosh mono block amps for 5K??? Do you think they might meet your standards???
  7. Now Bullwinkle, for something you'll really like. The lyrics of this song are meaningful, and express the point of view of the software in a database.
  8. I'm always interested in learning, so please excuse the newbie questions; what exactly are we looking at? And of course the dumbest of all dumb questions; where are the tubes?
  9. I would be surprised if the police chase aircraft could keep up.
  10. I agree with the caveat that there are also some topics that the Queen has put off limits; religion, gun control and politics So you're saying...we can post pornography?
  11. Do we have a winner yet? There are three guys in double percentage figures, in a field of candidates in which ALL would do a good job. This is important to me, because I'm the kind of guy who watches baseball so I can see umpires ump, and football so I can see referees ref (yes, I know there is only one referee in a football game, but I digress. ) There are only about three forum rules that if followed, should make the moderator job easy: Be polite Don't cuss Don't make it personal I am now ready to move forward and get moderated by some new people.
  12. I don't think this power amp is exactly what you are looking for, but in your price range and at 350 wpc, it could give you power and flexibility for the future, so I thought I'd pass it along: (not affiliated with sale) http://www.avsforum.com/forum/209-audio-gear/1634673-sale-sherbourn-7-350-1500-shipped.html

    What I Got Today!

Why not? Belles' are good speakers...
  14. Where's the "DIS-like" button for Sancho's post? Oh, man... And yeah, you did make me laugh out loud.
  15. Sorry to see one of our good pickles go, but I can understand your sentiments. And I KNOW you had more than three votes, because I voted for you three times, at least! (under different names, of course) You're too modest. +++ Minor thread drift, and one more thing: Nixon would have gone down in history as one of our better presidents, if not for that silly Watergate thing. He ended the Vietnam war, and opened up diplomatic relations with China which had never been done, a more significant accomplishment than any of the other presidencies in the last 50 years, with the possible exception of Regan presiding at the time of the demise of the Soviet Union.
  16. Can't believe I said that. +++ I thought you were the dish washer.
  17. Your entire post makes sense. And you are really right to consider the WAF factor, as these are BIG speakers and they can dominate the front of your living room, visually. I have a few sets of speakers now that I am playing with, just to hear what sounds better with what. I have a DIY speaker Fusion 10 (pictured below) that was designed to be used with a sub, and it sounds better (maybe different, more accurate is a better word) than the stock Klipsch CF-4. But the stock CF-4 vs the Fusion 10, the CF-4 blows it out of the water. If you can get the CF-4 for less than the usual $600, I would say do it. It's well worth the sound, and you can always recoup your money if you decide you don't like the sound, and don't want to mod the speaker. Edit: I was able to modify my CF-4 with some silicon seal to dampen the horns, and a small amount of polyfil, total cost around $30. It made the CF-4 much more accurate by taking out the nasal sound.
  18. I like the concept, like the marketing. I even like the music. I don't like the pricing, $400 for a "stock" fit?
  19. Oh, I agree totally with Amy. The topic was to request nominations for 2-4 additional moderators, and I think we've successfully accomplished that task. The other 15 pages was for some light hearted fun, which I think we also accomplished. A little thread drift is not a bad thing, and usually corrects itself without the formal intervention of mods, as members are usually self-policing.. I want mods for when it gets personal i.e. the word "you" gets tossed around a lot with some name calling, or if there is profanity. If mods jumped in everytime the topic wasn't 100% on topic, that would be a little too much for me. You really do need a little controversy for things to stay interesting. We're now waiting for Chad to come up with his poll, so the denizens here can vote on who they would favor for a peer moderator, which we also knew would take a week or so. Klipsch, Inc. could have simply chosen who they wanted, and not asked anybody. But by including the members in the selection process, they may have gotten a few names they might not have originally thought of, and it just about guarantees that us members will feel good that Klipsch values our opinions. Well done, Klipsch Inc.
  20. Hey, I know what those sound like! And this is what they look like
  21. Mr. Beeker, you have got the PERFECT name to be a moderator! Now you just need a good collection of emoticons or gifs:
  22. You should have gone for the CF-4! Trust me, I can relate to you when it comes to the lazy son. In retrospect, I wish I had done a little more of being firm with "you don't pay rent here, so get your behind in the car, I need some help." I have lifted mine, and frankly it was not my smartest move, but there was nobody else to help at that time. They are heavy, but also hard to get a handle on. I managed mine by putting them on a towel and scooting them, and to lift them out of the car I used some Styrofoam sheets, and used leverage. If you go slow, you can do it safely and without damaging the speakers. +++ I have tested the CF-4's with and without a sub. My results are a mixed bag. With the sub, the bass sounds become a little muddy. Without the sub, I don't get the performance I do while using the sub with a speaker designed to use a sub. The sub might best be used with the CF-4 while listening to moderate sound levels to get a chest thump. If you crank up the volume, the CF-4 can produce its own chest thump very well. I think I could fiddle with the settings and use the CF-4 with sub, but except for VERY demanding critical listening, especially with movies, the CF-4 as a stand alone is fine for sub-level bass.
  23. Maybe not, IMO. Opinion only, of course. Eating is a thoughtless act and requires no decision making. It can also be done while keeping eyes 100% on the road. Texting (talking, to a much lesser extent) takes constant decision making, eye-hand coordination with a VERY narrow field of vision, and eyes OFF the road. I think talking on the phone on the interstate is a minor distraction, and can be done safely. +++ Anecdotal story: Several years ago my daughters then 17 year-old friend Miranda was driving down a country road, but straight road. She decided to text and ran off the road to the right, hit a hill, rolled back across the road to the other side, where she went up over a bank and took out the gas line to a house. Everybody was OK, gas line did not catch on fire, but that was when I figured out texting and driving were bad. My daughter's friend was lucky. I'm glad texting while driving is now illegal everywhere, and if talking on the phone has to be gone as well, then so be it.
