  1. What do call a guy who hangs out with musicians? A drummer! How do you know if a drummer is knocking on your door? Because he's rushing. What does a drummer say at his job? Do you want fries with that? I am a drummer and grew up on Inna-gadda-da-vida. That being said, I like this next guy, who is using more modern percussion than the drum kit only guys, he does much more than just ramming notes, and he has tremendous wrists! Guitar Center Drum-Off 2012 Champion Juan Carlos Mendoza
  2. Maybe, and maybe not. I have three children, and since they have all moved out, my wife and I are now childless. Before I had my "man cave" we used to refer to that space as "the kid's bedroom." +++ BTW, I root for the Netherlands in World Cup play, and it looks like they will be through to the round of 16 in Brazil, but how is it they are only ranked 15th in the world this year? In 2010 they lost in the finals to Spain 1-nil. What happened since then?
  3. I assume no cars ever rest there...I wish I had a room to use for building stuff. Bruce Have you ever seen Mustang Guy's man cave? He has a building for room use! I've seen it with 4 cars in it, it's not even close to filling up his space. He fills it up with sound that is better and louder than any theater in our area!
  4. So...what time do the gates open for the concert???
  5. Mancave is 14' wide and 10' deep, computer furniture only, bed was removed. I don't do video games, so this is mostly for web surfing music videos and watching sports on TV, almost always at the same time. I do a lot of reading and I like to listen to Youtube on this rig. I do all my speaker testing here. The wife makes me keep my athletic shoes and racquetball bag here too, apparently because she thinks it "smells." Actually, she smells, the racquetball stuff stinks. Audio: The 2.1 setup has two Fusion 10 DIY speakers, 10" woof and 12" waveguide. Sub is Klipsch RW-12d. I have a gaming PC with good video card, 8GB ram, 250GB SSD and 1TB data drive. My audio setup is almost always changing, just for fun. The ten year-old 100 wpc Pioneer receiver says A/V but it only has analog inputs, so I use it to run the computer speakers in a 2.1 setup. Video: Dual Samsung monitors, a 24" and a 17". The 24" LG HDTV is above and behind the 17" monitor.
  6. And how exactly, did you discover this fact?
  7. Thank you Dean, I corrected my original post, which was wrong. I hope I didn't screw anybody up by posting incorrect information.
  8. Me too Carl. Your post was well intentioned and if I had not already used my like quota up for the day....I would give you two! No worries, I loaned you one of mine, in Carl's honor.
  9. Piano is probably the most difficult sound to reproduce accurately because it did not originate out of a speaker like an electric guitar, or even amplified human voice. I don't listen to songs on the radio, but I do like female vocals. I wouldn't hesitate to use THIS as a reference for testing speakers. I'm not suggesting youtube as a source material, but the actual tune is immaculately recorded and mixed with state-of-the-art equipment, it features quiet passages, loud, some decent bass, and IMO a great vocal performance. A quarter of a billion views on youtube can't be all wrong.
  10. No way!!!!!!!!!!! Where's that Jealously emoticon when you need it?

    WTF ?

LOL! That's not Karma, that's revenge!
  12. I have done a couple of DIY projects "by the book" from diysoundgroup.com so I don't have any special knowledge. I needed a resister that was 12.0 but that was out of stock, and I was told by the XO designer use two 6.0's in SERIAL instead. I could also use a resister with a value that was within 10%, like a 12.5 and the difference would be inaudible. EDIT: Thank you to Dean. I had posted incorrect information so I have capitalized a word to correct my mistake. The standard tolerance is usually .05, which means +/- 5% of nominal, and I was told using a .01 was more expensive, but also acceptable. Between brands I don't know. I think there were some specific caveats about cap TYPES, but I don't remember specifically. I hope that helps a little. +++ There is a review HERE on Parts-Express by someone who used polypropylene caps on the Klipcch Heresy and gave it a great review.
  13. And you call yourself a baker? Oh my freakin' GOSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! +++ Seriously; that cake thread was pretty funny.

    WTF ?

Like I said some will justify it. But its still what it is. Complaining about the price on something your not even going to buy has no place imo. I gave you a thumbs up on your post for that, but I felt the need to give you an additional "+100" for your common sense regarding comments on replying to market place ads. "If you can't say something nice, then ..."
  15. Happier???? More happy????? More happier?????? +++ Very clean looking job on the horn. Did you put any ballistic material on the throat? I was able to do that with the silicon seal, fill in those small gaps. I read somewhere that the throat was where the sound breakup occurred.
  16. Oops, big apology on my part. I simply missed the original discussion. +++ I don't take things personally unless someone looks directly at me and says the word "you." When I read the original post on selling the speakers, I was interested in only a general way. It was the reaction of our fellow forumites that caught me off guard, otherwise, I would have just moved on to the next topic, no big deal.
  17. For the record I don't feel insulted one bit. I think he said what he wanted, and he talked in an honest, straightforward manner. I didn't see anything to be insulted about. +++ Edit: I want to make clear Mr. Zeus, I did not mean to pick you out personally with my post, you're OK. I am just replying over your shoulder.
  18. I have the Onk TX-NR717, the smaller brother to the 818. I don't know your HK, but it looks like it doesn't do internet radio, the 818 does. The HK doesn't have pre-outs, the Onk does to all channels. The Onk also does bi-amping, but if you bi-amp you can only go to a5.2 setup. The Onk has more power, 135 wpc vs the 80 of the HK. I think the 818 was $800 street when it sold new a couple of years ago. I have seen them on the used market for around $500 now, and some vendors are listing them at $650, but I don't know where they are getting their stock since the newer 828 has been out for over a year now. That being said, I would consider the two units roughly equivalent, similar price range, both are discontinued models. The one significant difference is the Audyssey MultiEQ XT32, which seems to be the most desired feature of the 818. The HDMI problems the Onks had were in the 616 and under models, I have not heard of this so much in the 717 and up models. My 717 has been completely reliable in the 1.5 years I have had it, used everyday for HDTV in a 5.1 living room setup. It gets occasional heavy duty (loud) use, but has never given me a moment's problem.
  19. Hmm, nice post. Not much to add, I think you said it all! Just think, if not for a miracle game 6 last year, it would now be the Spurs going for the 3-peat as one of the greatest dynasties ever.

    Keeping It

I have always picked the wrong electronics trend, based on high tech achievement. I had a $700 Zenith VCR stereo with stereo playback when there was only mono. Unfortunately, it was proprietary, so I never ever got to play anything stereo on it. It finally quit working and I had to throw it away. Then there was my famous Sony Betamax camera and portable playback gear. I paid $1500, it NEVER worked right, but guess what I got for it in the yard sale years later? I had it listed for $50 and a guy gave me less than half that. It was either 20 bucks, or throw it away. At least your plasma TV still has some value, and when your wife questions why you still have it, you can always say "hey, at least I'm not as dumb as wvu80."

    PWK a "madman?"

Agree with you. I would think "maverick" might be a more complimentary term than "madman."

    Happy Fathers day

I would think this pretty much applies to anyone who breathes and has a neck.
  23. Can you do a modified vs stock comparison on how it sounds? Is the sound different in subtle ways, or did it make a big difference overall? I like to do listening tests on all small changes, but it sounds like you did a complete makeover at once. In particular, I would be interested to know if your speaker still beams, or did the weather seal give you a wider/taller sound stage?
  24. The CL listing is a good example why you shouldn't drink and post. Pass.
  25. Very interesting, DJK and Mr. Seti. That "mumps" concept I had not heard before, but it makes common sense to me. Those are the kind of mods I like to try, thanks. +++ This is my CF-4 horn with 63 CD, beside a 12" wide SEOS horn. The SEOS has the inside edges rounded, and molded in.
