  1. That's funny, a good friend of mine still has my old 5.2's with three KG 2.2's for his center and surround speakers. That's really a very nice sounding setup especially for the price. The 5.2's were my favorite 2-way Klipsch speaker until my more recent brush with the RF-5's.
  2. Glad you like them! I was just blown away by them, never expected such a dramatic difference from a little tweeter.
  3. Sounds like you have a nice set up, that new SVS sub sure does look impressive! I myself like to run my mains full range and just let the sub pick up the very bottom, at least for music, it just sounds more natural to me. I believe the Cornwall III's are rated down to 38hz so I think you're right in the ball park at 45-50hz. I run a 15" sub with my RF-7 II's which are rated down to 30hz and I have my sub set at 45hz and it sounds great. Most of the time I don't even notice the sub unless I'm watching a movie when suddenly the wall behind my head will start to quiver and shake, which is perfect for me. Keep in mind the low end rating for the Cornwall III is the -3db point so you want to set the sub above that by at least 5-10hz but I'd play around a bit see what works best.
  4. I've always heard you blow tweeters with too little power and blow woofers with too much power. If you're speakers are crossed over correctly and you don't drive them past the point of distortion you should be fine.
  5. Good deal, glad to see another positive review for Edwards and nice to know these old subs are still serviceable.
  6. Congrats on the new speakers, they look to be in great shape! I've never had any trouble with the stock binding posts as they take banana plugs and have large holes for at least 12ga wire, possibly bigger? Positioning plays a huge part in how these sound, I found the need to tilt them back a bit to get the horns aimed right at ear level, I also prefer them toed in so I'm staring straight down the horns give or take a little.
  7. Very nice, I loved my Ultra 2 sub set up, incredible amount of bass! Good luck with your sale!
  8. There are of course a lot of variable here to consider but I'm sure most could probably get away without one. If you've ever heard these side by side with the 5.5's you'd see there's quite a difference in bass output, the 5.5's kick like a mule in comparison.
  9. Very nice! I sure love mine but wish they were Cherry finish. So far I'd have to say the RF-5 is my overall favorite Reference speaker that I've owned.
  10. Looking into the Cornwall type B-3 networks yesterday I stumbled across an old thread discussing the transition between the B-2 & B-3 networks and various drivers. A Klipsch employee at the time stated that the k-57 mid driver in the Cornwall II is actually 2-3db louder than the k-55v. The k-57 uses the same diaphragm and magnet structure as the k-53, k-61 in the forte models as well as in the KLF 20 /30 models: Pulled from the thread above: This is the response that I got from Steve Phillips at Klipsch "Well, My suggestion would be no, you could not use the B-3 with the K-55-V. There spl differences between the 55-V and 57-K, 57 is about 2 to 3 dB higher I do not have specs on them, but the network differences are easy to notice. Not sure if you have the B-3, but I will send it along. Caps and tap points are different. You may be able to just change the tap points and the mid level be correct. I would suggest that it may not cause any problems using the network, just may not sound "right." The B-3's are going right to Michael when once I receive them since he has the matching components that they were designed to work with.
  11. So they sent you Heresy III woofers as replacements for the forte II? I wonder if that's what they are using in the new forte III?
  12. Have you done anything to your Cornwalls as far as updates? There's another thread that points out the need to update the crossover to a B-2 if yours don't already have them, fresh caps are needed if they do and they're still stock. There's also a new mid driver Bob Crites sells the A-55g which could be a dramatic step up depending on which driver you have already. Also the CT-120 tweeters are a huge upgrade over the stock k-77's-- I have the A-55g's and CT-120's in my Heresy HIP's and they sound absolutely wonderful, just wish they had a bit more bass. As noted in the other thread you can always sell your stock parts to recoup some of the cost so total investment isn't too high.
  13. The 5.2's are probably my favorite KG speaker although they lack the bass slam of the 5.5. I'd say if you plan on using a sub, get the 5.2's, no sub, get the 5.5's.
  14. Buy both if you can and decide for yourself which you prefer and sell the other set if you need to. Cornwalls are great speakers and there are lots of tweaks / mods available if you're into that sort of thing. Plus, if you don't like the Cornwalls you could probably make a little money reselling them at that price, assuming cosmetics are decent. Really, both are great speakers, you can't go wrong either way, good luck!
  15. Having recently switched out the k-77's to the CT-120's in my HIP's I believe that would be a big move in the right direction, they added so much to the upper end it was almost hard to believe. I've made many upgrades / modifications over the years to many different Klipsch speaker models and I can say without hesitation that the CT-120 was the biggest single improvement I've made to a set of speakers, they really are that good in my opinion. Just like jimbo said with the mid drivers, you can buy new ones and sell off the old to recoup a good portion of the cost, well worth it.

    Usher

That is awesome and glad to hear he's a good guy. It's really hard to tell with some of these entertainer types, they are selling an image, sometimes not even their own creation. I like to hear stories about the rise to stardom and not forgetting where they came from and giving back to their community. Not just cutting a check either, actually showing up and giving their time, I think that says a lot about a person.
  17. Birch? They say Maple right on the tag? Either way nice speakers and well worth the $450 asking price, good find!
  18. Yes, pretty much. The k-42 woofer comes stock in the KP-250 & KP-250 II Pro Heresy speakers with a sensitivity that matches the Chorus II. If you place the Chorus II k-48 15" woofer next to the K-42 12" woofer you'll see that they look nearly identical with a similar sized magnet. A good friend of mine has been running his forte II's with the Chorus II crossovers and k-42 woofers pretty much since right after I started this thread and he loves them. It does change the speaker quite a bit, much more forward mid range and it does seem to take a little more volume to get bass out of them, not quite the same bass as the forte or the Chorus, somewhere in the middle maybe? I don't think that this mod would be for everyone, if you like the sound of the forte more than the Chorus I'd say don't do it. If you like the sound of the Chorus over the forte, well, you'd probably see this mod as a step in that direction. It was a fun experiment and my buddy enjoys his modded speakers but really it would probably be better and much easier to just buy whichever model you prefer, if you can find them. I'm still searching for a pair of Chorus I's cough, cough.
  19. I don't think there is anything wrong because what you describe is very similar to what I experienced when I tried the 64II, I ended up switching back to the RC-7. Now that I have the RF-7 II's (same horn) I experience the same thing at times with my mains, it's like certain high frequencies are boosted and with some material it just gets obnoxious and needs to be turned down. I believe Deang has come up with some crossover mods to address the issue but I'm not entirely sure, was going to message him about that.
  20. I've been reading good reviews on the new Klipsch 115sw subs and they seem to be affordable. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Klipsch-R-115SW-Passive-Subwoofer-/272566851573?hash=item3f764017f5:g:7AIAAOSwax5YrzpM
  21. That is heart breaking right there!! Did you keep them / fix them?
  22. These old Cornwalls need fresh caps and mid horn gaskets at the very minimum, I'd even spring for the new CT-120 tweeters if you plan on keeping them. Lifeless is not how I'd describe my experiences with the Cornwall so I would suspect something is wrong somewhere.
  23. Just for clarification I only had the k-107 when I had the Heresy III's, which I compared to the KP-792 in my Chorus II's at the time. The KP-792 did not come stock with the titanium diaphragm, I believe they came with the black shiny plastic poly diaphragms. The plastic horn lens and magnet are the same though from what I can tell. The Chorus (I&II) have a 1" motorboard which is unlike most of the home models, I had to shave off the inside of the cabinet housing to fit the new tweeter as the depth of horn lens is shorter on the newer Tractrix tweeter. I'm fairly certain that there would be no need for any cabinet modification for these in the forte as they use the more standard 3/4" motorboard.
  24. Cash only and meet in a public place is the only way I do local deals any more. I just sold a Sunfire 12" active driver to a guy who was ripped off by craigslist buyer about a year ago. He said he sold a pair of speakers to a guy, had him over to the house for a demo and he bought the speakers and all was fine. About 3 months later his house was broken into and they cleaned him out, he didn't even think of the guy who had bought his speakers but a couple of weeks later the cops called him and told him they had found some of his stolen property and when they asked him if he could identify the thief low and behold it was the guy who had bought his speakers months back. So, even people who seem legitimate and even buy things from you may in fact just be someone casing out your place.
  25. Finish, condition and location are going to be major factors but generally speaking the 4.2's typically sell for around $150 give or take $50. Good luck with your sale!
