  1. Thanks for the reply. I don't actually have KHorns, just the go ahead from my wife. She likes the corner placement idea-out of the way. The only corners that could be used are unsuitable (as far as I know). The one corner is the window wall, the other is a sort of jut with two four foot walls. One just stops, the other continues but has a French door. From what I understand, and please correct me if I'm wrong, (I have no expert pretensions), I was under the assumption that smooth full walls were required. As far as the Hereseys go, my only experience with them was recent and I really didn't care for them. They seemed shrill and baseless. Edit: I misread your last sentence. Subs as risers just may work as they would eliminate the floor space issue and fill them in. Next time I'm down south I'll try listening to a pair of IIIs with small subs.
  2. They are a very good looking speaker. Just checked out the specs, very impressive. I'm not familiar with Atmos sound or technology. Do they work with two channel music as well? As well, do the top drivers run off the same channel or do you use the hieghts speaker setting on your AVR?
  3. Those are great rates! One of the joys of living in the sates I guess. They pound us for shipping here. I was going to buy a BDI av unit from Edmonton and shipping was over a thousand to ship up to Yellowknife. Too much, so I'm having a unit built here in town. Shipping costs very much effect the cost of living here. When I head to southern Canada on holidays or business it feels like going to Mexico as everything is so much cheaper than here. Was at the pub across the street for a bit this afternoon and paid almost $10 a pint ( a real Imperial pint not an American pint).
  4. In the end they may be the way to go. Palladiums are a bit out of reach. We have an audio video shop here that is a Klipsch dealer and I could order through him. Because of my location, used are not really an option. Very unlikely to find them here and our nearest big city is Edmonton which is about a 19 hour drive or two hour flight south. The shipping would kill me. My attention was directed to these two models because of them being full sized and in current production. They look very nice in the wood veneer and would go with the hardwood flooring.
  5. As space is the big concern I'm looking for efficiencies. The LaScalas/sub just take too much. There is only room for one set of speakers which will be hooked up to the TV and DVD and used for music as well in two channel mode. I'm hoping to be able to free myself from a sub. I'm leaning towards the RFs as the floor footprint is not much different than what the stands for my RB 61IIs take up. I haven't heard the Cornwall or 7s. Just operating on the specs and using my current Reference bookshelves as the metric. They sound great, but of course require a sub.
  6. Just build 4x4 foot false corners and make them pretty. PWK put out the plans in the Dope from Hope, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that he had TWO false corners in his living room at home when I was there to hear his recordings. This will allow you to place them wherever you like. They would just take up far too much real estate. As it is a condo all the living is in the living room. If I had the corners they would work.
  7. Yes, a very nice tower in the centre of downtown. My office is two blocks away and my wife's office moved to a just built building directly across the street. The lobbies even line up! http://www.yknorthernheights.ca Although the he population number is low it is the capital of the territory and has a very city like feel. The lands surrounding the original city limits have been tied up in land claims for years so the city is quite concentrated- and expensive.
  8. My wife and I just moved into a new condo (high rise style). She loved the look of Klipschorns( although had never heard them- gave me the go ahead for a 2016 purchase.) Turns out we don't have the proper corners so they are off the table. Ideally what I want is a full size set of front mains which will also be repurposed as my two channel music speakers. I am looking for a pair that will eliminate the need for a sub- I'm an adult who like realistic not hyper base, nor do I need a movie to shake my windows out. Don't like the effect. Love LaScalas and Belles, IMO the most beautiful speakers made by Klipsch aside from the Palladiums. Just find them a very inefficient use of space for sound delivered (IMO a speaker that large should not have to require a sub). All things being whittled, it is now down to a new pair of Cornwall IIIs or RF 7IIs. Which would you recommend or suggest for an all around speaker?
  9. That is absolutely incredible!!!! Sounds great. Hats off to the kids and a pitcher or two for the teacher who was able to herd these cats and make this happen.
  10. How do you find the Heresey for mains?
  11. Klipsch is the restaurant at the end of the universe...no place to go! Dave I like the reference! So Long and Thanks For All The Fish,
  12. Looks to be in pretty rough shape, you will be busy rebuilding these for a while. I'd say no - seems too high a price for this condition.
  13. Any thoughts re down vs forward firing? I am just using a small KW100 down firing. Seems fine for my environment. Speaking of which, the new condo we moved into last week seems to have much more room bass. I have had to cut it back a bit.
  14. Fabulous, would love to hear that bad boy. Have been a Marantz fan for decades. Congrats
  15. An update: We are now into the new condo and it turns out I don't have the corners required for KHorns after all. Back to my original plan of a pair of Palladium 17bs or perhaps RF7IIs (which would free me from a sub). Time will tell over the course of the winter. At this point my wife has a new furniture shopping list that will push this onto the back burner until at least next spring. The Corner gods giveth and taketh. This time mostly taketh...
  16. You got some pretty good deals. I am a big fan of Marantz and think their AVRs work well with Klipsch. I have 4 RB 61 IIs that I picked up in a couple good eBay deals. They sound great to my ears with the Marantz for TV, movies and music. The newer ones all come with several HDMI ports. I have the SR5008 which is recently discontinued. You might find a new one in that range if you look around.
  17. Nice set, congrats. And you are right, they are getting harder to find.
  18. Very professional looking. Beautiful speakers, I'm going to assume they sound as good as they look.
  19. I'm very impressed with the finished product. Do the ports improve the bass as compared to a regular Heresey?
  20. In general Marantz seems to match well, both vintage and modern.
  21. My experience is very similar. My parents had a wonderful unit. I have never owned a tube amp but may at some point. Some of those old consoles sounded wonderful. My parents unit had a great warm sound and plent of bass. Wow I haven't even thought of that rig in 30 years.
  22. That's odd but your ears tell the story. You going to keep them?
  23. That is incredible, what an uncle. As nice as it will all sound, its origins give it much more value. Word to the wise, take your uncle and aunt out for a really nice dinner. Congrats.
  24. It's guys like this that really reinforce the fact that I have zero woodworking skills.I do appreciate those who do. That veneer is breathtaking.
  25. Nice unit, I use an SR5008 and couldn't be happier. This is a great deal for someone.
