  1. $8.95 current bid (actually, looks like no bid). Wow. Ok, who wants to pick these up and ship them to me in Cander?
  2. Buy local, after audition. Means you miss out on some really great gear, also means you miss out on all scams. Bitcoin ... really?
  3. @ScottM contact https://critesspeakers.com/ and let us know how it goes. Mr. Crites is universally respected and will get you the right fix. Also, when you can ... post some pics of your Heresy. We all love pics. Are they Raw Birch (HBR) or Walnut Oil (WO) etc? How are the cabs? If they need a bit of touch up, you can use Howard's Restore A Finish and/or Bees Wax or other similar products. Lots of fun to be had with Heresy speakers. There are folks here that have tons of experience in wood care, crossovers, drivers etc. So ask any other questions, thoughts you might have. Best wishes.
  4. @Man in the Box I've only ever had Klipsch (15 inch down firing and ported) and Velodyne (10 inch, sealed, front firing) subs, but the SVS line is clearly a top line. As to 10 vs 12, I was pleased with my 1 Velodyne DD10 ... but did purchase a second (also used) and paired them with my Heresy. Two, matched are better in most cases... others on the forum can debate that one ... but there's always the issue of finding all that floor space. If you have to do full retail, I'd be tempted to start with the 10 inch and have some seed money for the towers. If you can find some used gear including shipping (long stretch?), e.g. the UK Audio Mart https://www.ukaudiomart.com/ then maybe a 12? Good luck with the decision and the hunt.
  5. Long ago, when doing my MBA, I read a financial technical (is that an oxymoron) article about risk by the CFO of Merck. It was very enlightening in an MBA way. I can't take the "generic" version of 2 inhalers I have for asthma, they make my throat and other body parts convulse. So, pharma has me bound to the "original".
  6. I was going to ask ... it looks like 2 runs of wire? Was there 2 locations for phone extension or is there any chance these were low gauge speaker wire? Where did they run from / to ... common point to two different locations and why not just tuck them in the gap between floor board and carpet/wall board? Definitely don't leave them under hardwood!
  7. I was going to do a +1 for what @PrestonTomwrote then noted the Bahrain location in @Man in the Box response. Ok, that's a different situation likely! I suggest any good quality, 10 inch, sealed, front firing sub. It doesn't sound like you want to shake the house down, so 10 inch but quality is key. In the future, when you go for your 5.1 (or 5.2 even better if possible), get a set of towers, move the RP160's to surround duty. I would get the center channel last and only if you really want it for Home Theater. I have Velodyne DD10 subs at $700 each Cdn. These are very good, but you have to work the used equipment market and I'm not sure if that's even possible in Bahrain. Is there any online Audio Mart in countries near enough to support the cost of shipping? For instance, there's Canada Audio Mart and US Audio Mart, both of which have used equipment ... the caveat being as always ... buyer beware! Best wishes in your search.
  8. Thank goodness then for help like that! Good to hear. We have friends who moved from Alberta to Florida and he says ... health care in the US is as good or better than Canada, as long as you have money. He does. Here's a "get well" thought for your friend in need.
  9. Having just retired, I am very sensitive to medical costs. I have 2 plans and my wife who's still working has 1. With all of that, we basically break even and we aren't big users of health care. Even here, where health care is "free" and universally available, costs are adding up. I don't know how people who have ongoing medication needs make it. Son in law has Diabetes and if his company plan didn't cover a lot of it, boy it would be expensive (the alternatives aren't good though). The last numbers I was aware of, said that health care was increasing by about 17% per year in Canada. Good grief in less than 6 years, no one can afford it if their plan is not indexed (who's health care plan is indexed?). Oh and when do you really need health care? When your income is fixed. Hmmm? So, the short of this is, you need to buy additional health care insurance. Yikes.
  10. With Heresy speakers (some have asked about) I; 1) Converted to Super Heresy, including very nice B&C woofers +bass 2) Placed in corners +bass 3) Raised on custom built stands to place midrange at ear level -bass 4) Stands were open, four leg all wood -bass 5) Add Velodyne sealed, DD10 subwoofer on 2inch rigid insulation +SVS sub feet +bass. One per Heresy makes for a nice combo. This has accomplished the ear level, + bass enhancement. Sorry for poor photo, the wiring mess, and oh ... the Patriots Man Cave stuff.
  11. As offered, check all the connections first. If they are Heresy II then you have to go through the front taking out the woofer likely is easiest. Be sure all connections on the drivers and the crossover are all tight. If this does not solve it, isolate the driver not working and get out the voltmeter. Then, I'd contact Bob Crites. Absolutely worth the troubleshooting and you'll enjoy the results when you are done. Best wishes and post your progress!
  12. @MenloBob thanks for the build pics and info. If I sell all my Martin Logan gear ... Oh look honey I made a KLF-510!
  13. I have a few projects left, some with sons-in-law and brother-in-law. They're all working and I'm retired so I dream up ways to spend their money instead of mine. But, this forum ... Just when I think I'm cured... @MenloBob 's KLF-510 ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Also, when I see the work by @No.4 ... UGH it makes me want to involve the sons-in-law in some DIY (I'd like one last simple SS power amp). I'm nearly cured once I get those 5 projects done.
  14. My hoped for BBQ was cancelled ... massive storm rolled through just at cooking time, trees were bent near 90 deg with the wind. Pork Loin roast in the oven with potatoes was a great second prize! Still had the McEwan's Scotch Ale.
  15. Pork loin roast going on the bbq with wine soaked applewood this afternoon. It’s finally hit on our deck! Beer and pork roast tonight.
  16. Well, appears my offer of Steak & Amarone has failed. Is the attenuator from Hattor? Truly a great job again without a machine shop to tackle all that metal work (not to mention the electronics, wood work and plexiglass). But, I am eternally optimistic. When you start your next build, keep me on the list for "castoff".
  17. Andy Weir’s The Martian and less famous Artemis are fun science fiction/drama. If you’ve seen/read The Martian, read Artemis...different but a good read.
  18. For those who like Roman historical fiction, Conn Iggulden’s Emperor series. Also the “Eagles” trilogy by Ben Kane and Empire series by Anthony Riches. Together give an interesting view of the Roman military.
  19. I believe the main conversion for music is that it will go from iTunes to Apple Music and they say nothing will be lost. It makes sense for Apple to try to make a more cohesive product that provides access to all music regardless of source and of course Apple wants to get people to sign up for services rather than purchase once. Apple software does get overly aggressive sometimes of the digital rights management and who knows what will happen when the app changes and Apple Music starts managing the iTunes "database". I've made 3 backups of my entire iTunes library to disk drives off my Windows iTunes. And one of them is on a USB stick connected to my music server so I'm not going to loose anything. Thank goodness I can still run WinAmp too.
  20. @geoff. I too am "north of the border", but have purchased capacitors from Parts Express. The random, wheel of fortune ... you pay / you don't pay duty was favourable sometimes! No way to tell when it will be. Parts Connexion has a Canadian presence too. If you have coupons or catch a sale, the Parts Express costs including all in (foreign exchange, shipping, potential duty) can come out pretty close / better than Solen although I'd like to support Canadian retailers. Also, check Canada Audio Mart (buyer beware) as there are folks who sell capacitors there. My meager budget is only supportive of mid-level, e.g. Jantzen z-Silver, or Dayton capacitors but these have provided excellent "bang for the buck" to my nearly 65 year old ears.
  21. Three deg. C overnight, rainfall warning ... 50mm to 100mm depending on location Southern Alberta and at least 6 days of it forward (already have had 3 days). Yikes. Watching some workmen across our alley trying to put up or take down (I think they surrendered) some foundation forms. The foundation pit is a lake. Literally if someone fell in, they could drown.
  22. It’s not clear to me if you are in favour of the title idea or not? I have to say the thread on the “KLF-510” was one of my favs! I’m willing to be the Canadian tester if there’s a need.
  23. This past weekend, while on vacation at my soon to be retirement house, I stacked 2 sets of Heresy and put them into a cheap Chinese chip amp (the $50 variety) with an equally bad iPad for a source using a mini-headphone to 2 RCA input cable. I split the signal to the Heresy using "stacking" banana plugs. The crazy part was, the sound was actually pretty good and I only needed about 2% of the supposed 100 Watts to make them very very loud. My 28 year old daughter came downstairs and spent an hour listening to music including all kinds that she likes, so it must have been ok. Sound quality and level are so dependent on all the items in your system and your room it is hard to give concrete direction and you have the religion of tube vs SS etc. Best advice might be to find a way to audition any new gear you want to try and preferably on your speakers from your source equipment and in your room. Good luck with the unending search for "better" sound.
  24. Parts Express, search for cable wire tie. Don’t cinch them down too hard, the plastic can have sharp edges.
  25. Did my Boumeester Flames signed game jersey just increase in value? Too bad he had to leave to get a cup, but good on him and the Blues, worst to first!
