  1. Dave, glad you are ok which is of course #1! Good tip on Google Earth View. I too am done in the "unknown" chase for audio. I will only work with local folks, mostly via Canada Audio Mart, there aren't too many Klipsch Forum folks here ... I've met Morray James, but not others. Did get a fantastic deal with a person on CAM for Martin Logan gear, but I really restrict what I look for. When I lived in Northern Alberta I purchased a GMC Yukon truck just to have half a chance vs a moose. Lots of folks were killed on the highway in/out of Ft. McMurray where we lived and the Yukon would only have been a draw. Very good that you kept the sunny side up and didn't roll the vehicle. Better day today for you I hope.
  2. Forgot game 6 was today, looks like the bruins were playing for a change. Split loyalties, big Boston sports fan but I also would like to see the blues win their first ever, and I’ve met J. Boumeester once in Alberta at a mountain lodge. He and his wife were very nice down to earth, pleasant people so cheering for the Albertan!
  3. Some folks here and CAM have noted over heating as source of fried HDMI boards on various AVR.
  4. In support of my fellow Canuck, Go Raptors! But Mr Curry is crazy good.
  5. I have two Velodyne DD10 I purchased used. They are on SVS isolation feet and on 2 inch rigid foam insulation in the bottom of home made 4post speaker stands. No complaints from my attached neighbour. Get sealed front firing sub(s), and really good isolation feet!
  6. A Canada Audio Mart member reported many Onkyo HDMI problems, then the same with Denon and a third OEM’s AVR. He also said he lives near industrial plants and there are frequent power blips some due to thunderstorms! I suggested “get an electrician “. Not sure if he had heat and/or power spike problems. I’v owned, still have, 3 generations of Denon AVR with never a problem (knock on wood). I have though increased the clearance of my current unit by adding SVS subwoofer isolation feet. The unit runs barely warm, although I don’t push it hard. Best of luck on the DIY HDMI repairs and I look forward to some pics and updates.
  7. I've seen metal grids like this at hardware stores. My guess is he purchased a big piece, cut to size with tin snips, then carefully folded where he wanted the edges. Not sure about the "matte black" colour though, I've only seen plain silverish metalic. That's my guess.

    What I Got Today!

@A1UC that ML centre channel must be awesome, I have a Theatre I and love it. Let us know what you think of it.
  10. Brother-in-law loves cast iron and smoking/bbq, even in the winter here. Thanks to one other thread, I’m collecting bbq rub recipes, and now I’m going on a hunt for some old cast iron. I know he has some but getting an old piece might be fun. Thanks to all, not only have I learned about audio but toasters, bbq rub, and vintage cast iron!
  11. Is that really 2 channel? Someone got a nice setup.
  12. @Marvel is correct the use of CAT cable to make audio cable has been around, I surely didn't invent it!! Here's a link to a site that got me started https://www.venhaus1.com/diycatfivecables.html although there have been others including some YouTube where folks used a friend holding one end, and a drill (input cable into chuck) and voila you can twist the full length cable pretty quickly. It is the individual strands removal of insulation and twisting that is a bit of a pain, although there are folks who do it very quickly. There's YouTube video of folks who do manual braiding of the full length cable ... that I should try. My fav is a 3 cable set braided very tightly, looks really nice. I think then, I'd combine a few of these into one cable and twist the full set using a drill. I have CAT 5, but now CAT cable is up to 7 I think, so even more fun to be had. If only my wife would do the braiding for me?
  13. Friend (much richer than me) has crazy expensive graphene cables sitting on hardwood "tents", between his Octave monoblocks and his ProAc speakers. Very nice setup. Sounds amazing. Meanwhile for fun, I made twisted CAT 5 cables (24 strands of 22 gauge ... should be about 8 AWG equivalent?). Showed my friend. He looked like he was trying to figure out if I was the crazy one. All I know is, they were cheap, easy although a bit of time to make, and work well with my Heresy. Gotta make a few more runs of those cables.
  14. @wuzzer I feel your pain. Calgary had snow 2 of the last 3 weekends, but it finally looks like spring might arrive this weekend. I had to have a new roof put on and got it done right between snow storms! Very lucky.
  15. You've got to have Graphene! The electrons know the difference.
  16. @mr clean, thoughts and prayers to you, Tom and family.
  17. Mais oui, un, deux, trois I thought of buying a mid cost amp from China, checked Google... oh, very badly wired. Nope, not gonna do it. Although, son in law electrician might help check the wiring.
  18. I recall having some components (Sony I think) back in 1980 that had a dob of paint on every bolt/screw that was on the outside casework. Hence, if the paint was "broken" someone had been inside your component post factory release and the seller had better have had a maintenance invoice from an authorized shop.
  19. JBL made/makes a lot of speakers and I downloaded a technical manual for lots of them. But I need an index to the index of the speakers. A 17" woofer would be special though.
  20. Well done, those look great and must sound great. Do you mind sharing cabinet dimensions?

    E-bikes

I saw one of these or equivalent once in downtown rush hour traffic ... IN THE WINTER. I think he had a death wish? I am interested in an e-bike. Our house in Victoria is on top of a big hill. Not sure the ticker will take too many hard rides up that hill. Daughter is into tri-athlon and loves the hill. Ugh.
  22. @Deang I love that picture. I had a less extravagant physical layout problem on a crossover once, but that might be the best I've seen. Thanks for sharing, it made my day (having a new roof put on our house, ugh).
  23. Well done, nice looking speakers.
