  2. As long as you have pre-out from the PM8006, should work fine. Let us know what you think about the sound compared to the built in amp.
  3. agreed...here's what a deal looks like for the Valencias - $800.: https://kpr.craigslist.org/ele/d/kennewick-altec-lancing-valencia-pair/7120880782.html
  4. sometimes the preference depends on your other "axe"
  5. On a lark, I just picked up a pair of JBL Cabaret 4628b for $60. I was looking to liberate the 2404h-1 (butt cheek) tweeters for another project. I hooked them up to test them out and was amazed by the sound! They don't go much below 50 HZ, but they give my LaScalas a run for the money and dare I say even a bit better in the stereo imaging department. Representative pic:
  6. Do you have the original drivers? Do you know if they work? Please list any identifying numbers on them. edit: from the "ask the Historian" parallel thread: "(EV T-350) K-77 tweeter and the (Atlas) K55-V midrange driver" Any idea was woofer is in there? Could make a difference in value.
  7. General consensus seems to be the best were vintage drivers (note: both designed for older 6" x 13" :motor board slot): #1: Stephens Trusonic 103LX2 - rare and high $$$ if you can find one #2: Electro Voice 15WK - Better availability ~$300. seems to be the market price currently for a decent example Here's a link to some testing you may be interested in:
  8. I have no personal experience with them, but some have suggested replacing the Chinese 6N2 with the Russian military equivalent 6N2P-ev with good results. Widely available on eBay or other sources for modest $.
  9. I found this picture as I was searching for more info on the HK mono amp I picked up on eBay...
  10. Heresy 1s are listed and pictured....One tweeter needs new diaphragm: https://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/ele/d/portland-vintage-speakers-work-great/7110870043.html
  11. Anyone have any experience with these? eBay - Illinois -$1,200. OBO https://www.ebay.com/itm/164167046728?ul_noapp=true

  13. @harryz He advertised them here for awhile in "alerts". They have the Jensen woofers. I traded emails with him on some other stuff. Good guy.
  14. Here's the "Dope from Hope" write up on PWK's center channel mini-box (using a mono amp) : Dope from Hope center speaker box.pdf
  15. you have the 1-3/8"-18 TPI Screw Mount adapters to fit the JBls to the 511b's...right?
  16. here's the plans.. SpawnHorn-v2-planset-foster full range.pdf
  17. Because that is what they were designed to have, including the original crossovers...I wouldn't swap the horn unless you are thinking about some major crossover rework or an active setup...just my 2 cents (I actually have a 511B/902-8b setup I am looking to fool around with as well on my LaScalas)
  18. You should check with Great Plains...I believe you can replace the diaphragm in the 909 with the ones for the ferrite 902 model (8 or 16 ohm available). The 902-8b was used by Altec for many home and studio monitoring audio applications where power handling is not as important. Some here have crossed it over at 500 Hz and below (you may want to search the site for "511B"). I have seen some suggestions that crossing at 600 hz and above is better. The 902 will easily reach 6K (decent to 12K or above). That being said, if had a set of original Imperials, I would sell the 511b combo (quick) and buy these (assuming yours don't have the combined mid tweeter unit): https://www.ebay.com/itm/Jensen-RP-201-Pair-Drivers-and-Horns-Vintage-matching-and-working-great/223748458152?hash=item34187286a8:g:r8sAAOSw6vBdzFI0
  19. I read somewhere here that PWK had a LaScala center in his personal setup with a pair of Klipschorns...
  20. "Lights up but just recently will click from green to red"? could be an issue responsible for the low price...
  21. If you haven't already...you may want to check out the Carver site (I have a 1.5T and have found them very helpful) ... https://thecarversite.com/
  22. Thanks Jim!...that is some really good info...invaluable for originality verification and restoration purposes of these vintage heritage models.
  23. Those must really shake the stuff in the cabinets above in those built ins.
