You have had it for 8 months. $1500 difference/8 = $180 approx. expense per month for the pleasure of owning the thing. So it could be worse. The only two items I have paid full price for in the HT were the projector and screen. Everything else I purchased used and got some good deals on. Geeze, for that amount you could have gone to the theatre and had popcorn twice a week. But why would I want to do that? That's the whole point of having a home theater is to provide a better experience than what you get at the theatre. [] I have no desire to sell it. It will likely be used in my HT until it totally dies. I'm not one that has to have the latest and greatest. I went with a mid-level projector that offered the features that I wanted (1080p capability to easily switch between aspect ratios without having to spend bookoos on an anamorphic lens setup). [] I think this is a great thread! Looks like we all have experienced depreciation in some form or another. Here is my biggest depreciation story. Bought a used truck for $10,000 many years ago. Had it for 1 year and had to sell it because we found out we were having baby #2 and 4 people could not fit in a Mazda B2300. Traded in the truck towards a used Mazda 626. The 626 was $11,000 but I was $4,000 upside down on the truck so they rolled it into the loan on the Mazda. Paid $15,000 plus interest, drove it for about 5 or 6 years, car was on it's last leg so I took it to Carmax and sold it outright for a whopping $250. I was literally sick to my stomach. I made a decision that day to never finance a vehicle again. Save up, pay cash and buy descent used vehicles. I heard awhile back that an even higher resolution was just around the corner. That was totally expected. The good news is that my panny does everything I need it to do so there is no itch for me to "upgrade". I've learned over the years to research what you want, buy somewhere in the middle of the road equipment and be satisfied for as many years as it will last. It's all about being content. There are guys here that are still using 720p setups and absolutely love the quality they are getting. That's awesome. Big props to them for enjoying what they have. I would not even want to even think about my loss on selling the old in the last 20 years LOL. The last 11 years I have worked in the industry and still have lost. Although I am very impatient when it comes to selling and try and put what I think as a quick sell price and try to sell it on the first day on Audiogon. Reality is that no matter what your hobby is, it's down right expensive (fishing, hunting, audio, video, photography etc).
